The issue with some brands are not because they are Black, it was Hip Hop and particular tied to how cool or relevant a person were, Hov stop rocking Rocawear the more successful he got, Diddy always runs into image issues, Sean John faltered cause Bad Boy stop focusing on music..people out grew Fubu and Enyce and the like were sold off too fast to create a lasting legacy. Apple Bottoms momentum slowed with Nelly. Ye was crazy but didn’t last long enough to know what it would of became, infrastructure is very important Very nice interview though

I'm hearing that our community needs to create a record label type business model for the designers. The "fashion label" holding company has the distribution, marketing, accounting, manufacturing, etc. so they essentially sign the designer to "collection deals" like album deals. This allows the designer to focus on design like music artists focus on the music in the studio.

This is what every fashion house does, the elect “creative directors” , for example Virgil at LV was akin to a signed artist. LV provided infrastructure, marketing tools, resources, manufacturing, production, etc, and he got paid as a result of how successful his designs sold. The fashion industry has been this way for decades, only few actually make a household name for themselves that becomes successful, but only because they have investors. These brands would be like rick owens, Ralph , Alexander McQueen (deceased) maison margiela, etc. what you explained is already a thing

I disagree with the whole identifying as a Black Brand is limiting. On your previous podcast Van Jones stated that we as Black People need something that everyone else comes to us for ... he mentioned that people from India are known for owning parking garages. Since everyone in the world is inspired by Black Fashion what is wrong with being known as a Black Fashion Brand? Harlem Fashion Row was built to help out Black Brands! Everyone is making money off of Black People except Black People .... why not make Black Owned Brand the "go to" for good creative fashion? Don"t start changing up! Jim Jones is the same person that complained about how he was treated in a luxury store but stayed to give his money to people that dont respect him instead of spending his money with his own people. And truth be told alot of those luxury brands are manufactured in the same warehouses as other brands ... they just put different labels on garments.

Pausing in mid interview at the moment that Troy said 10 million and caught his head to the side and looked at Rashad as if they were maybe thinking they would invest by the way didn’t they just get a check from Diddy for that exact amount at invest fest?

do you all believe that if a brand was to target the black audience it would automatically bring other audiences since some of the world gravitates towards the black culture and what we do/wear?

It’s one thing to be a black designer, but it’s another thing to be a black brand. If “blackness” is apart of your brand, you can’t control who your audience is; because you can’t control what “blackness” means to the general population (for better or worst). It’s ok to be black, but if you have to advertise it, then you’re not really confident in who you are as a person or brand.

I am seeking any type of sponsorship from another business that would like to secure engagement & retention from my Streetwear audience of over 60 attendees + 23 Models. It’s not hard to find my contact if interested, thank you 🔥

This episode just reminds me of the greatness of EYL; Rashad and Troy. The movement is about everybody eating! Showing where we can get in! Showing we’re the need is and shedding light on problems. So we, can get in, solve those problems, and build and grow! #legacybuilding. Thank you for real. Showing us and our youth, we can and we will.
