Hello Wes, honestly of the various presentation in regard to this topic, the one that was the best was yours WES. The problem is that unfortunately after assigning the letter "C" and trying to boot the drive it failed. Message received from a DELL 3020 was as per the DELL PRE BOOT ASSEMENT = NO HARD DRIVE FOUND...... Do you have an idea of what may have happened.

Why is it saying that no volume is selected when trying to format. When I do a list volume it only shows volume 0 which is my internal hard drive. Thanks

When using diskpart it is important that you use the right order, first run the create partition primary command on the appropriate disk, then select the partition with select partition , next format the partition with format fs=ntfs label= quick. Then run the assign letter= command. When this is finished you should be able to run the list volume command and identify the volume you have created and formatted. If you are only seeing a single volume and require additional volumes, you might need to run the shrink command in diskpart to create additional free space.

wow!! 1a..only one on all you tube who start to finish and test!!.. 1b..maybe NOW windows install will find my drive and i also converted to GPT 1c.. my power switch soldered to the board lost its ground! no time to order new one today sooo.. i alligator clipped ground to main board and she started up!..lol
