Thank you for this. I followed your instructions in this video, and did my own hair last night was shades EQ and it came out so good. I used shades EQ 09 and 0T10 and a cap full of 09GI and I was lifted to a 9.

I have a red hair extension and I want a chocolate brown. Do I need to understand the level of red first?

This is the first video I've seen that actually explains why my toner turned out the way that it did. My natural color is a dark ashy blond and I bleached it at home starting with the back of my hair and working my way up. I think the underneath in the back over processed because it was beyond level 10, it was completely white which would've been ok, but the top front of my hair under processed and came out as yellow/tiny bit orangey 9 and the top and underneath didn't blend together well. I should've just bleached the top again, but the person at Sally's recommended a toner to even it out. I said I wanted a warmer blond, more towards gold than icy silver or the complete white that the underneath was. She said ION 9N "Very Light Blond" should get me there. It turned my hair brown, like a bronzey walnuty brown. There is no universe where the color could be considered anything close to "Very Light Blond" and it wasn't even close to the swatch at the store. I went back to Sally's and checked my hair against the swatches and it matched 7N. So, it seems like according to your video, it turned darker because it was a neutral and what I should've gone for was a bright blond. I don't understand why it was so off from the swatch though, because if I had known it would turn out this dark I wouldn't have done it. I guess I learned two lessons, do a strand test and don't take what Sally's associates say as the final word. I really don't like the color so I don't know if I should bleach it or do a bleach bath to get as much of this color out as I can and go over it with a different toner that's lighter? It's still lighter than my natural color, so I'm going to have to do something once my roots grow out.

Unfortunately toners will not lift color out. I would try a Malibu treatment or cpr treatment to remove the color you don’t want

@@andreaflores7828 It depends on what she wants the final result to be. To start I applied Clairol Shimmer Lights toning mask to my hair 3 times to get it less orangy and it helped. I think it says to use on wet hair, but I got a more noticeable result when I put it on my dry hair. Make sure it's an even and thick application and leave it on for like an hour. If she still doesn't like the color, then consider a semi or demi permanent toner. The person at Sally's talked me into a permanent toner and I regret that, it's been really hard to wash out/fade the color at all. If your sister ends up not liking the semi or demi permanent color, it will be easier to fade out and if she does like it then you can probably get the same color in a permanent toner. I can't give any advice on what color to use since I just started experimenting myself, but based on my experience don't go with anything lower than level 7. I wish I had combined the tube of color toner with a tube of clear toner (it says it adds shine) to dilute the color and I don't think it would've come out as dark. Start small and non-permanent because you can always go back and add more color. Don't let Sally's, or wherever you go, talk you into starting with a permanent toner! Good luck!
