I’d like to see a video where you show how to use a Dremel to frag Blastos and Acans/Micromussa since I feel like those would be more challenging to do with a Dremel. I bought a Dremel for the purpose of fragging corals in the future, but I’m a bit concerned about using it on some of the Blasto colonies I have growing since it can’t be as precise as a band saw. Great video, thanks! 💪

Here in Brazil, we are hobbyists, we use a dremel with a diamond disc, which is much safer and cuts much better

After you glue it down in your display, how do you frag it in the future? How do you remove it from the rock structure without damaging it? Does the glue not have THAT much bonding power? I've been using glue and epoxy on my hammers but now I am worried I will have to remove the entire rock to prune them in the future.

Is that just a standard cutting wheel or is diamond the way to go?

You know there are diamond saw bits for the dremel that makes cutting though it a lot easier then a regular cutoff wheel. Also you should stress that one should wear saftey glasses when doing it with a dremel, as it has tendencies to throw stuff at you, and by some odds you win the unholy lottery, getting a coral frag shard in your eyes is not pleasent at all.

Thanks! I'll be using my Dremel to frag at first. BUT!…my frogspawn and hammers are dropping heads. I recently upped my parameters for a better growth rate. Alk8.9-9, Cal 440-450 mag 1390-1400. I raised them over a weeks period time to those levels. Why would they be dropping heads? Flow isn't crazy. I'm about to pull my hair out cause my acans and favia have grown like crazy since the switch. Even my chalice has exploded. I don't get it.

@FitLabb
@FitLabb Жыл бұрын
What levels did you start at for all those parameters? One week is a VERY short period of time to make any significant changes to water parameters as any changes should really take many weeks to even months to achieve. Stability in parameters is much more important than chasing better or ideal water parameters for most corals. Some corals are also more sensitive to changes in water chemistry than others, and euphyllia certain levels tend to fall into that category.

I had the same issue,all of a sudden I started losing heads the only thing I could put mine down to was a mag cleaner that was leaching in the tank, I removed that and a couple big water changes and the rest were fine.

@@FitLabb Not far off actually. Like 8, 400, 1300 Also, people buy from coral farms everyday and acclimate them for only an hour. EVERY other coral is thriving since. They were dropping heads here and there before but seem to be doing it more now. I’m thinking it’s flow. I’m going to move them for a while and see what happens. Either that or my fire shrimp is searching for food in them. I saw him yesterday messing with the frogspawn. He kills my snails too. I’m not a fan. 😂

"Hammers dont regrow from dead heads" oh march do i have a story for you 😅 The tanks really coming together! Though i want to know, are duncans the same as hammers (ie have a brittle skeleton) or can they be fragged with bone cutters. Anyway, heres an interesting story for you, i have no expirance keeping euphyllias, my tank is young and im not risking it, but that dosent mean i dont know anything about them. My LFS had a hammer colony die on them, white skeleton, no visible tissue, covered in algae ect, they decided to put the skeleton in a display tank because of the blue encrusting sponge that had overtaken it, i kid you not this hammer was ressurected, rose from the dead like a phoenix, about 2-3 months later, after the blue sponge had died off about 10 micro hammer polyps sprouted from the skeleton, theyre still alive now, not full grown yet though as this happened around april. Another great video though. Keep it up!

For this application you can buy the cheapest tool an buy decent discs and all is well. Makes super clean cuts for easy glueing too . Absolutely hate using bone cutters, only ever do if there is no other way . Split too many skeletons that way
