I would but this brief intro is completely misleading............Firstly, 360/8 sides is 45 deg. This is the angle between the hips at the top junction..NOT at the wall plate. Secondly, the hips bisect the corners at 67.5 deg. NOT 22.5. If I purchased anything, I wouldn't be sure I would get the right information!

What you are forgetting is that it takes 2 hips to make that 45 degree angle. Meaning each hip is 22.5 degrees, like he said. Also, what is 90 - 67.5? .....22.5.

WRONG WRONG WRONG a 360 degrees is 2 pi,Not pi as this dude suggests, the angles at the wall is 135 degrees , the hip splits that angle making it 67.5 degrees, NOT 45 degrees jack rafter angle is 22.5 degrees. The angle where the hip would theoretically meet in the middle of the octagon would be 45 so 45 bevel BUT if you frame the commons first than the bevel cut would be 22.5. I used to think this shit was hard and so complicated after looking at all the ways people do it but now I know that they simply DO NOT understand the math.

Can you tell me what the hip/valley line length ratio “secant “is of a 5/12-8/12 bastard roof is. I don’t know if I’m doing the math correctly.

@@TR-rn3pd 1.2506942 for the 5/12 side or 2.0011108 for the 8/12 side. Depends on which pitch and span you’re using to calculate your hip/valley from.
