Hey, Great Video, just one thing you forgot to include is the additional equipment that comes the instruments E.G (Vial Level); for those who might not be familiar with the name it is a device that clips onto the staff at the back like a clip on version of the bubble found on the Leveling Instrument which is used to aid the process of centering the leveling machine as shown in previous tutorial, it help the person holding the staff to always ensure a reading is more accurate by leveling the staff bubble...

Thank You very much, this has been more help than you could ever imagne.

Yes that is true, the staff should come width an instruction booklet. My level has a booklet but saying nothing about how to read the staff and they just assume you already know. But some people who use these do not have the time or money to do four years of college to learn basic survey methods.

you've forgotten to show how to set up your most critical point of reference. your datum. How do you accurately measure the eye height at the level?
@StillSkrilla8 жыл бұрын
Why are you after the lowest reading? I don't understand? Generally you want to hold a rod plum? What kind of surveying is this?
@SpydersByte8 жыл бұрын
+Adam Smith Yes you want to hold it plum but the person holding it can't tell whether or not it is perpendicular to the ground so they need to wave it. If the staff is leaning forward or leaning backward the reading would be higher than it would be if the staff was perpendicular so he knows at the lowest reading the staff is perfectly perpendicular. Think of the hypotenuse of a right triangle being longer than the perpendicular leg.
@StillSkrilla8 жыл бұрын
I see now, thanks. We do not use leveling rods to do house locations which is what I mainly do at this point so I appreciate the response.

Why are you waving the staff?
@migranthawker29523 жыл бұрын
VERY important step missed out - the graticule inside the eyepiece needs to be focussed for the user, otherwise it will be impossible to get a true readin!

Actually waving it is the way to get the most accurate reading. It's more accurate than if you have a Vial level on you staff
