This ‘69 440 came to us a few episodes ago looking very promising, but I could not break it free at home after trying many methods. Soaking in ATF, marvel, diesel…it wouldn’t even move! So we take it to Roger’s for his special treatment 😎 See the fun of how we split this thing apart! #mopar #440engine #machineshop

When you rev a big block, it's the driver's side that wants to lift up because of the direction the crank is spinning. Every broken motor mount I've ever seen has been on the driver's side.

That’s a very good point, that CCW spin when viewed from the front would most certainly make sense! 💪🏼

@Fanelli restorations. That's right. Also, it's not uncommon to see cars at the drag strip with engines that are literally held down on the driver side using a chain attached to the frame.

Those pistons and rings were dug in those cylinders like an Alabama tick.

Clevite bearings were quite common in Mopar engines in that era, at least in all the HP mopar engines I've torn apart.

I believe it was for strength they had a problem with them breaking the motor mounts I'm talking about

That would make sense yes someone else pointed out the driver side lifts first with the direction of rotation under heavy torque

What's that motor out of?

It’s out of a ‘69 Chrysler C body, not sure exactly cause it’s changed many hands before getting to me. It’s very original tho, likely never rebuilt. Factory pentastar imprints on the deck surface from the head gaskets, nylon teeth timing gear set, standard bore…shes a great builder.

Man! Don’t travel without tie downs on a weight like that. My friend got in an accident with an engine sitting free in the back of his truck. In the crash the engine smashed through the back of the cab and dented the glove box lid. Luckily he didn’t have a passenger on board.

normally i agree with you and you can see in all our videos how much we strap things down and emphasize the importance for travel. However, roger is up the street and i drove very slow...that block wasn't going anywhere

I guess I might have thought of drilling a piston to pieces.

Simply pull the crank out and knock the pistons DOWN, not up!

If pistons are stuck, rods are stuck, and at various angles they dont allow crank out.

I guess some people don’t care for the technical knowledge of how to do it and just love the satisfaction of seeing the transition to the end result. Glad you enjoyed ours!

This is kind of a click-bait title. I expected to see some clever method of freeing up the rotating assembly. It's just brute force when you're beating the pistons out of it.

you can see a lot more in episode two. There's a lot more skill and experience behind the brute force you think you witnessed...thanks for watching!
