Thanks man! This is the best instructional I've found so far on how to do this. For us old dudes learning new stuff, this is great! More bowl and transition videos greatly appreciated!!

Dude, thank you for the clarification. I've been slashing for ages and always wondered why some people's frontside grinds looked so much cooler than mine.

I was grinding these but having trouble coming in. A guy at the park gave me a tip that really helped. He said to drop your front truck into a fs smith but let your wheels catch to go back in. I started to stick it consistently almost immediately after I started to focus on dropping those front wheels down into the transition. I found leaning on the heel-side wheel (which I do to get out of fs 5050s) was much harder with a standup grind.

I just landed yesterday. Thanks for the help. I learned how to go back in by sliding into tail stall then dropping in, eventually it became one quick smooth motion.

2 foot transition? I started skating in the 80's in England and the only stuff with coping was vert ramps. So that's what we learnt on. I am so jealous of what kids have today. It's no wonder everyone rips Edit: I come of as a bitter old fart in that comment. If the cap fits and all that

If you're uncomfortable with visualizing it with weight on your heel, think of it like in the arch of your foot but the outer edge of your foot arch in the pocket of your tail, that feels good

Nice break down. I think what freaks a lot of people out about this trick, is when they wash out and then bail by jumping over the front of the board...very bad idea. Much safer to squat down and try to grab the coping, if you're too cool to wear knee pads.

I can only do these is I go at them fakie and come out revert to fakie. I never learned front slashes though, I've never felt comfortable with them, let alone carving in a bowl frontside. Got to go back to some basics when I find a good bowlmini to practice in. Local park only has straight angle planter boxes, bank ramps, and a few quarter pipes. There are others in driving distance I'm just lazy and a creature of habit.

What park is that? Davis, CA. ? That's lucky to have a park like that with no one getting in your way. I have slash grinds down pretty good... I can also frontside 50-50 super good so... looking to take the next step to "stand up grinds." I have a suggestion. Roll frontside on the deck and get used to dropping in frontside... Next roll frontside and manual and drop in... Next roll frontside manual into the coping, grind and drop in, etc...

I would say to b on the heel the whole time, no? Once u get on top the coping ur on the heel

I think the hard part for a beginner (me) is being afraid of not locking in properly and overshooting. My worst bails on the mini ramp are always overshooting and going headfirst into the transition

Standup grind yes. a 5-0 grind is a nose grind as a 5-0 is on the nose of the board. Love how new-school is confused as to what a 5-0 is. Comes from standing on the nose of the surfboard. We would have called this a rear-axel grind.

@bendegros6 жыл бұрын
I will make a video on it. It's a pretty risky maneuver.
@chriss.15936 жыл бұрын
Do a very slow roll-over-the-coping-to-tail, hold it for a second, then just drop in like a normal tail-drop drop-in. When you get comfortable doing that, do everything a little faster. Then do it even faster. When you get comfortable doing that, then just do the same basic motion, but WITHOUT going to tail. And of course, start out with smaller transition.
@Jb001jb4 жыл бұрын
The trick to learning these is finding very small quarterpipe with perfect cooping. The lowest you can find. 2 foot. Or even without cooping. I learned them this way. It’s all timing, when you approach the cooping do a little manual. Then push down right before hitting the cooping. Be light footed. Once you got them on lock on the small quarter, take to a bigger quarter. This is true for frontside roll in. Backside is a little different. Doing them backside, you need to briefly grind the cooping. Be confident an commit

Still enjoying your channel. This isn't related but do you know where this spot is and if it still exists? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaLPp3WwnNxme7M I've always assumed it was in Vancouver but I can't figure it out. Thanks!
@bendegros6 жыл бұрын
That spot is Tsawwassen water reservoir. A suburb of Vancouver. It was a really fun spot. It was around for years until they decided to put up big fences around it. It's been unskateable for a decade or so.

Ben Degros That’s awesome. Virtual is my favorite skate video of all time. I watch at least some of it every day. Tony, Mike and Friends especially, but for sure Colin. Right now I’m really stoked on all the Manny variations he did in the parking garage. So good and he wasn’t even known for that stuff.

It took me the most effort to commit to dropping back in after front-side grinding. Then I started taking them to fakie and now it's one of my favorite ways to setup for a fakie trick. Wanna hear a crazy story? Mr. Dress-up( Ernie Coombs) fought Mr Rogers(Fred Rogers) about 16 years ago out side a casino in Milwaukee and Mr.Dress-up mopped the floor with that sweater-vest wearing Yank. About a year after that Mr.Rogers met with an old acquaintance of Dress-ups and got her to set up a meeting between the two as to "squash" the beef. Little did she know Mr Rogers was actually plotting for his revenge on Mr.Dress-up for making him look like a pussy in front of the same group of people he'd been telling bullshit tough-guy stories to all night as he labored down Zimas as if they tasted like alcohol. The meeting happened and no one's seen Rogers since. "Rumor has it", Mr. Dress-up got rid of his tickle trunk soon after said "meeting" took place. Ernie Coombs died on September 18th 2001 and took the truth of this tale to his grave. To add even more mystery to this chilling tale of a life long rivalry is the fact that Fred Rogers died on Feb 27th...2003! ...Spooky isn't it.

Doesn't make sense why Frontside 5-0 should have the "inside" back wheel against the coping, and Backside 5-0 should have the "outside" back wheel against the coping. Risk of hangup should be equal.
@blarggstar24 күн бұрын
I agree that it seems like Frontside 5-0 should mirror the backside version. I experimented with standing on a frontside 50-50 with toe wheel against the coping and realized there is something about toe pressure not being firm enough that it flips off the coping. After that I now see why you need the heel side wheel against the coping.
