Currently in the process of training my 9 month old filly! I call it kindergarten hahah. This video is super informative and helpful! I love how you included literally every part of the process and all of the realistic parts of training. I feel like so many training videos these days are too vague + over edited and don’t show the entirety of the process - real training sessions are a lot longer than the 15 minute edited videos, and you showed that perfectly. Keep it up!!

Before you start, I just want to let you know how much your training and your kind heart means to me. If I ever have a chance to get a horse (I have had horses all my life, but am older and living in a town), I will contact you to put the foundation on her, as I would want a filly. Sorry. We shall see. I have put it out to the universe, but you are hopefully in my future.

That was an excellent session with Kix 🐎. I think he did a really good job, and picked up on your cue's pretty darn well. Unfortunately Amry, there's always going to be some "Negative Nancy's" out there, that feel the need to correct you, when in all actuality, you need NO correction at all! So to them I would just like to say, shush 🤫 she knows exactly what she's doing!! I think your going to have a pretty easy time training Kix, he seems pretty smart, and eager to learn. Can't wait to watch session 2 with him 😃. Again Amry, nice job 👍. Love and Blessings always ❤️🙌 Jennifer

He isn't too young. It is easier at this age. And so much more manageable. He wasn't paying attention the first time. The second he watched. I like haltering and leading early, like while still nursing. Allen did some of that, but not a bunch.

How often do you plan to train Kix? That was quite a workout for him. And, he is still missing his mama. The mustang is feeling that as the mustang did live in a herd longer than most. Those mustangs are quite something, mentally-empathy knowing that Kix is just not mentally weaned, scared, and reaching out to be rescued by his mama. The mustang was trying to comfort. That is why it is so excellent you took him and the mustang away from the ranch. We have much in common as I also like Rocky Road ice cream--my favorite. Too much to say in this venue. I did write Allen and told him to start working that filly a bit. She is coming around, but she needs human contact. Runs away when humans come near and that should have been nipped in the bud. Allen has too much going on to get to the details at this time. But the older a foal gets, the harder it becomes. I watch Steve Young from Wales and he is really against cookies. I never used them, so am just curious. I have a litter of German Shepherds coming up. Interested?😉

There's something similar between great horsemanship like yours and a great teacher of people (in my opinion)---you don't take undesirable behavior too personally. I wish more trainers of all types, including parents, learned that skill, along with patience and gentle tenacity. Thanks for posting your adventure with Kix, Day 1 was amazing!

Hi again AMRY A really good first lesson Amry. Your patience repetition and consistency is spot on. He's a very nice smart colt and you'll give him a top notch foundation with your skilled training. Plz know there will always be critics and nasties. Constructive kind suggestions can be tried and possibly put to good use. But hold on to your confidence and your methods that have already proven to be very successful! Always enjoy that time close to finish when they get tired and are ready to listen and kinda like ya lol! Good job lady! Looking forward to seeing those three get their great start with you... So happy we get to see your work with Kix. He is a very nicely put together guy, just gorgeous. Hope his personality matches his looks! A bit of a challenge with the round pen having greenery! Whatever happens with Kix in future, I do hope he is allowed to stay a stud long enough to bulk up. He is very pretty now, I can imagine him in a few years of bulking up. Then geld him if he won't be used as breeder stud, but I like giving them all their God given hormones for as long as possible. I do the same with male dogs that I have raised over the years. I not not neuter them as pups like so many do, and unless bad behaviors show up sometimes I keep them intact. Of course I am always careful to know where an intact dog I own is, secure in his own kennel run so as not to be able to run after any neighborhood females in heat.

You can't untie the bowline if the horse throws itself & has weight on the knot, you need to get slack in it to untie it. There are a variety of quick release knots that can be used, but they work better if you take several wraps around whatever you're tying to that way it doesn't pull the knot too tight. If you're using a halter that they can break, you use a rope they can't break, run it through the halter & tie a bowline around the horse's neck, but take several wraps around whatever you're tying to. The bowline around the neck won't choke them & you can always untie it once you get slack in the rope. (I love the bowline too.) (Experience)

The lead ropes were fine but your over sized halters could have caused a problem,easily gotten a leg through, you know horses can be amazing at getting into trouble. I have been doing since i was 7...I am now 70. Just "think" as Ray Hunt said with a open mind . Today was great!!!

Are you going to make Kix a gelding or leave him a stallion? I love his spirit. What goes into your decision on making a colt a gelding instead of letting him be a stallion.
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
We will most likely sell Kixs as a stallion - we usually geld colts at 1 - 2 years of age. It will be up to Kix's new owners if he is left a stallion. In my opinion stallions take a lot of work and owners should breed responsibility. I think there is a lot of prep and consideration that should go into keeping a stud to breed. This would be a good topic for a future video ☺️

What I call a normal trot (most quarter horses) trot with front and back legs moving forwards on alternate sides. A pacing horse will move their front and back legs on the same side - If I ever train a pacer I will make a video showing the differences.
