My son used to be fast out of the gate. Since the switch to flats he's been awful, and I realize now it's because of his hip position. He hasn't had the comfort level to really get out in front of the bike like he used to. This video is super helpful.
@clintcoop57173 жыл бұрын
Keep him in his flats for a long time he will learn to use form instead of relying on his clips....after a few months if he is good and strong he will be beating people with clips...once he is beating people on flats he will not only gain more confidence his competition will start to loose theirs and when at bigger events that really matter ride with his clips he will be smoking them... obviously don't never ever practice with clips so you don't remember how to use them but only for that purpose...
@clintcoop57173 жыл бұрын
The difference is when clipped in is you get the up pull on the pedals is why you go faster...that doesn't mean he is actually learning proper form...just so you know my son has made the mains as a pro at the Grands....

I raced a little in the 80s. I'm in my 40s now. I went back and tried to do some heats in cruiser class in my mid 30s. It was fun af! I wont lie, I was awkward off the gate and my legs didn't like me like they did when I was a kid. Lol. I got 4th place in a 6 man heat. Was fun. I'd love to start doing it for exercise now and get better again. Cool video for the kiddos. And even refreshing my mind. Lol. In the 80s, I never had any show me gate techniques. Lol. Just got up there and went. Lol. I still ride bikes every week. Got a 29er SE, a 26er REDLINE, and an oldschool torker. Well, I kinda gave my torker to my nephew, but I miss it. 😢 lol

Great video probably the best gate video out. One thing though with the pedaling innovation pedals. You don't plant foot like a normal pedal. You want foot centered not the ball of foot. Those pedals are heavy but the best flats you can buy !

The local track I raced at in the mid 90's had a gate that dropped by gravity & an arm that lifted it from underneath. Sometimes the person on the gate would forget to drop the arm and the gate wouldn't fall.

Just returned to racing after 30 years away. I was really surprised ABA changed the gate cadence. The old ABA start was: Okay riders lets set'um up. Riders ready, Watch the lights. (Red...Green lights only). I used to listen so that on that W I was throwing my weight and snapping the gate. I need to work on my timing but it seems that if I start on that first beep that would be about the same.

What I’ve noticed on the snap is if u just need to drive ur head forward quicker I’ll roll my wrist more forward then normal but if I need to snap a little slower so I don’t smack the gate I’ll put my wrist closer to a straighter position

Barry, you don't look like you're left handed yet you start with the left foot. Do you do that so that your right foot, or the power stroke, is the first revolution after leaving the gate?
@dsgn0va6213 жыл бұрын
OK i was watching your video and i said i was going to try it out today but what i don't understand is just before you go i don't understand how you go back and then forward like is that just pulling on your bars and pedaling as hard as you can? i used to race when i was little and then we moved and never raced again. i kinda wanna get back into racing again but i don't think the redline i have will be able to race and i would also have to really get back into shape.
