Do you have to fill the sump with water after installation so the pump motor doesn't start running dry (with no water) and possibly causing damage to the pump motor?

I enjoyed your video, At the 1:40 mark you show your screw driver release of the tab on the spray arm. But after trying your method of removing the spray arm, I wasn't careful enough and broke the plastic tab off. So I ordered the new part from your web site, and replaced the lower spray arm base. After inspecting the broken piece a while I noticed and figured out that the plastic piece has a triangular large shape on the side protruding outward. This is where you use a PAIR of PLIERS (not screw driver) and grab the triangular piece and pull out on the tab ever so lightly . Be very very careful as you have said. It only needs to be pulled about 1/64 of inch, real slight movement. While doing this pulling out with your pliers in your right hand, use your left hand and place it under the spray arm and gently using your thumb and finger pushing up. It releases the arm. Ho-ray !!!!

Good job, thank you. This was the only resource I needed to replace a sump inlet. Mice chewed through this one on a portable dishwasher stored in a shed. Glad I chose to watch and follow along instead of trying to figure it out on my own. Never would have happened, lol.

I have this same GE set up having problems draining. I have checked air gap/, drain hose, drain solonoid, motor and capacitor, checked for any clogs under filter and drain sump and its all clear...Could you advice what else i can check? It leaves about 8 liters of water after running it that i have to manually drain out.....

It's critical as it forms the check-valve that allows your dishwasher to drain the water. No ball means can't drain water. They use a ball because the system must be tolerant of large food particles. It's actually a great design.

This is a god tutorial, but you forgot to show how to reinstall the filter ball. I incorrectly installed it and the dishwasher didn't drain properly. I had to remove the collection chamber again to install it correctly.

This version of the procedure shows how to drop the ball back in the top of the sump. I've looked at two other tutorials for this dishwasher and they don't show us where to put the ball!

I didn't see you put the ball and washer back in. Mine fell out when taking apart and was looking to see what order to put back in.. I saw you remove ball but you didn't put it back in ??? Why???

The washer goes into the hole where the spray arm mounts into. The parts catalogue lists this washer as a "spray arm bearing". It literally does what it says - it's a surface against which the spray arm apparatus can rotate and/or otherwise rest against. If yours has a concave and convex side due to wear, make the convex side go down and concave side go up so that it matches better with the spray arm "bottom shaft".

It's rather critical - it allows you to drain the water by plugging up against the filter ring tube. I'm actually impressed by this entire design as it's extremely tolerant of food and other particles and the system will work without any perfect seals - it just needs to be "good enough" which is great for the kind of work it has to do (getting food and other crap off your plates). If you don't install the ball the water cannot drain out of the dishwasher. In my case the upright rubber tube that's part of the sump was rather disintegrated so water was "leaking" out the sides of this disintegrated tube instead of being forced back through the outlet tube and down the drain.

Most likely it's $27.36 CND. For my dishwasher it was Manufacturer Part Number WD12X10244. You'll need to verify if it's the same for your model. (Google is your friend!)

The most common reason is because the dishwasher won’t drain ALL THE WATER. Symptoms occur when the filter doesn’t fit FIRMLY into TOP OF the sump
