Absolutely adore doing these types of sessions, especially with people you'd normally never even consider to be designers. The most original ideas tend to come from these sessions!

I find this approach cool because sometimes we already have an idea about how our layout could look like and it's tough to let go of that 1st obviously good idea. This kind of exploration creates room for experimentation and discovering different paths.

I am not 100% agreeing on that. Most of the time the first idea is the best because this is how you would think an interface to be the most intuitive. I am not against deep thinking when you have to add more elements to it or alter a core element and don't want to break the already existing user experience though.

I love doing this exercise with others to see what ideas they come up with and what directions they come up with.

Your content is fantastic, Femke! Thank you :) Have you considered doing a video, speaking about the team dynamics from a designers' point of view? For example, you sometimes mention a product manager. Is that technically the leader of the team who decides the milestones and tracks progress, while the product designer is responsible for the "creative - UX/UI how to". Obviously, there are engineers. I'd be really curious to hear more about the different roles on your Uber team and how you guys work together. 😊🙏🙏

Hello! Very weel explained! thought... i have a question: Do you preset the "problem" or the screen you are sketching for 8 different ideas before you start?

Would this exercise be done before the copywriting is determined? Since the layout depends upon which content has to come into it? I suppose before doing this exercise, there's already some notion of where the copywriting is going to end up as well? Thanks, great video!

Hey! In my experience the actual content comes later, but I think it's great to involve your content designer in this exercise as they'll have some valuable input.

So it's more for brainstorming potential interface designs rather than actual ideas?

Hey!@@femkedesign ☺When I first saw this, I thought being constrained to a screen or wireframe during an early brainstorming session seemed like it would limit wild and out-of-the-box ideas - especially from participants who might be from non-creative areas of the company. However, since commenting I've spoken to a few of my mentors and peers and I've learned that crazy 8s aren't just for interface designs, rather just sketches of your ideas (whether that is an interface or a stick figure). Thanks for your content! 👏

I find this process a total waste of time. Once you put such designs into Figma/Adobe XD, etc, nothing is ever to scale; proportions are all over the place; text takes more space than your doodles, & you've wasted a hell lot of time. I go straight into Adobe XD and explore real scale options on the platform, which saves me having to waste my time.
@wetiot
@wetiot 3 жыл бұрын
@@femkedesign ... Hi Femke. I do a similar process of ideation directly in Adobe XD, playing with shapes & the line tool. I simply avoid sketching on paper, which I find to be an unnecessary step, & a waste of time for me. I find I work faster if I go straight into XD.
@wetiot
@wetiot 3 жыл бұрын
@@femkedesign ... We are a small team operating from three different countries. I'm the main designer & the rest are Devs. They have access to my XD files & can leave comments at any time. However, they prefer more complete wireframes before giving their design input.
