This was so informative and totally changed my mindset behind the impact of my designs! Listening to all your achievements, I'm overwhelmed by the impact you've made and how you find time to continuously share your knowledge with us on youtube as well. Do you have any advice as far as time management and balancing personal life?

Thank you! I think the biggest things for me have been: 1. Learning how to say No so that I only focus on the most impactful things 2. Hiring help! I have a couple freelancers I work with who help keep this channel alive. 3. Listening to you, my audience on how I can best help you and use my time effectively to do so

This is hands down the best video I've seen here in youtube while preparing for my job interviews. You're so informative and I loved all the content and examples. While watching, so many ideas came to me, I can relate so much! I can apply your examples into my own experiences that I've had throughout my career as a designer. Thank you so much for making and sharing such great and helpful content! I'm now a subscriber and will be 100% keeping up with your channel. Keep up the great work! 👏👏👏

This topic was perfect timing! I've definitely worked on projects that once I pressed send for the printer, that was the end of that project for me and then it was on to the next one, so I was never able to (or even thought to ask) what the impact was. I really appreciate the idea of design impact as I'm reworking my resume and trying to figure out how to show the value that I added to each position that I've had in the past, even if that was information that I was not privy to. Thanks for this video and the awesome insights!!

Hello Femke! I really enjoyed this video, I found it very informative I love to see how you approach the different aspects of design. I would really like to learn more about the way you handle your day to day tasks and the processes you follow . For example tips on how to present projects to devs, BAs, and clients so that you are as clear as possible. Thank you so much!

Femke you're amazing, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I've got a dilemma here. I saw your video about your last portfolio update and you showed a project that wasn't shipped yet. My best work at the moment hasn't been shipped and we're still working on it, but it's for sure the one that has the potential of having the most impact. Is that a stopper for sharing it at a portfolio presentation? I wouldn't have to send it, just talk about it, but it scares me to reveal too much information, though it could be determining to get this new position... What would you do?
@femkedesign2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Curious what's holding you back - is it that it hasn't shipped or you're worried about sharing to much info? If the latter, can you elaborate?

@@femkedesign Hello Femke, thanks so much for replying! I’m struggling with selecting the last project of my portfolio. On the one hand I have this project I’ve been working on for like 2,5 months. It’s about exploring the Proof of Concept of an innovative functionality (and technology) into the app of a known customer. As something innovative and not yet shipped nor sure to be shipped, we’re still working on it. I’m on the testing phase of the prototypes I’ve designed to find out wether our initial hypothesis were right or not. I considered telling the whole journey of the project and the impact we expect to have if we finally launch it, but blurring all the labels and references to the brand and sector (they’d still know which it is). Still, I’m afraid I might give away too much information and it could be negative for the company I’m in now and applying for. On the other hand, I have a little project (only 3-4 weeks) where I fixed a small flow that was causing a lot of pain points for the user. The impact is visible, since they can check out the users negative feedback on the app store and I can dive deep into the solution since it’ll be shipped in about a month (I also have data for impacted users). Unfortunately, for this project we didn’t get to test with real users (just some personal guerrilla and the initial research on their feedback on the app store). This project would have even more impact because after the solution, they valued more my job and I became the lead of UX of this app. What would you do? Is it better to tell a smaller project but with maybe a much more provable impact, or risk it and maybe show too much about the huge long-term project? Thank you so much in advance, you’re such an inspiration!

Documentation is not design therefore cannot be categorized as having design impact.
