Could you do a video on how to answer Data Analysis Questions? I am struggling with them the most
@iblikecole91677 жыл бұрын
+Ishani Khanna They're the toughest, I'll do one in the future definitely. But it takes time, usually these questions have very weird looking data and questions that seem very far fetched. One tip that always helped me is that 90% of things you need to know is in the question itself, you don't need to remember many parts of the syllabus to answer it.

Thanks so much for this!! I use the Andrew Allott revision guide and find it super useful. The thing is, I have also been making my own notes using the pearson textbook throughout this year and I don’t know whether I should keep making notes if the revision guide alone is enough.
@iblikecole91676 жыл бұрын
Personally, I think the revision guide is enough. However, since you've made notes already. Maybe you can compare which one you find more effective later on when you're revising a particular subject, and see what works for you. Let me know how it goes!

So I don't have the Pearson textbook, I have the Andrew Allott textbook. And it is unlikely parents would buy another one for me. I also can't find a digital copy online. Hence my method is this: BioNinja (read this instead of textbook) + Alex Lee + Andrew Allott study guide + Data based questions & Extended response questions = learning content per chapter. IA is currently in drafting stages... which is worrying. I'll check out that website.

Do you have any tips
@jaysonrittenhouse4294 жыл бұрын
@@EyehatePersona5 Like I mentioned in my comment, I did the 2015 exam so I presume a lot has changed since then in terms of syllabus, exam structure, etc. But I can let you know what I did personally and what worked for me - just keep this in mind since what worked for me won't necessarily work for you or anybody else. I've also forgotten what tips were given in this video so apologies if I restate anything that this channel did. 1. There is a lot of content that you need to know for HL bio. So it's best that you actually understand the concepts instead of just mindlessly rote memorising. And for me, having a good textbook really helped me to understand concepts. I had the IB biology by Pearson (can't remember exact title but the cover was orange). I'm not sure if later editions of this textbook is still good or not, but the one I had was great. Also, use other resources to get your head around things like KZbin videos, etc. Those condensed IB study guides also helped me quite a bit as well. I'm not sure if you've seen them before, but they're not actually textbooks with tons of content information. They're more like guides which explain how to answer certain questions, etc and just highlight the main points in concepts. If you can your hands on one, it should help. 2. I remember that the cohort I was in was actually the last one before they drastically changed the IB syllabus. But with the syllabus I did, the learning objectives for each topic were quite specific with key words which gave you a guide as to how much depth you needed to know it - words like "examine", "explain", "distinguish", "analyse", etc. I know this has changed now and as far as I'm aware, the syllabus directly after mine wasn't as specific in terms of learning objectives. Anyway, my point is that I used these learning objectives to set up this excel sheet which had each of the learning objectives in its own row. And then I would go across and add a comment to the cell right next to that learning objective and type in information about that concept. I used a range of sources and had multiple cells in each row that would have a comment. Each cell contained information from a different source. For example, I'd have a cell's comment which had notes from a textbook, and then a separate cell would have notes from class. Another cell would have the question bank mark scheme for questions related to that learning objective, etc. I basically used this to pool as much information as I could into one place and honestly, I pretty much only used this excel file to study for my final bio exams. It is a time-consuming process making the excel sheet, so you kind of have to start it earlier on (like several months, or even a year before your final exams). I guess my main point is having all the information in one place really helped me. Maybe this isn't a big deal for you to have notes in several different places, but if you like simplicity, try to find a way to get your notes together. Again, this is only what worked for me personally and a lot has changed in the 5 years since I sat the exams. I don't know if this comment will be any help to you, but it was fun looking back at high school and remembering studying for IB exams.

You need to understand the harder concepts before the revision guide, but once those are done, the guide is enough. Bio ninja has some things we don't need to learn and goes quite light on some things we do. I prefer the RV. But it's everyone's choice in the end.

+Nus Tay001 I totally get your skepticism though, but I can assure you, working with the Revision Guide did me wonders for my exam! It really refreshes so much in so little time, also a lot of the diagrams are used for the exam, so it helps in the paper a lot. What I'd recommend, read a chapter of the RV guide and once you're done, pull a Syllabus statement guide and check off all the ones that were covered. You'll find that most of it was done ( if not all ), it's really that good.

@iblikecole91677 жыл бұрын
+Natalie Samhan No! It's a great resource to add, I needed bio ninja to understand hcg and it's application to pregnancy tests.
I’ve heard that the bio textbook by oxford (blue feathers one) is PHENOMENAL for biology. Hard to understand but once you get it and if you go through all the concepts its guaranteed 7. Ive heard pearson is too simple.
@iblikecole91677 жыл бұрын
Before I even knew of the Pearson textbook, I always used the Oxford one, never doubted it. But really, it was too confusing, especially when you get to HL Chapters like Plant Biology, Respiration and Animal Physiology. The way it explains concepts does not have a natural flow, so it was hard for me to understand. However, yes, "once you get it" you will be in a good position to get 7 for your written papers. But that was my trouble, I could never "get it" because it was so much and so much unnecessary detail. That's why I advocate using the Pearson book for explanations and the study guide for more detail, it works out perfectly! Do whatever works for you man, in the end we all have our own studying styles. Use the book you feel more comfortable with.
