In this video I show you how to get a blower wheel (squirrel cage) off of a bathroom exhaust fan motor shaft. This will help with replacing parts in your exhaust fan and cleaning your blower wheel.

Thank you so much!!!! Other videos just showed people pulling the blower wheel right off the motor. I have pretty decent numbers on my back-squat, bench, deadlift and overhead press... I didn’t think elbow grease was the problem😆 Keep up the good work because you’ve just earned yourself a new subscriber!

Ha ha, thanks Miss Jamie. Yeah the deadlift won't help you in this situation. Sometimes you just need a little trick. Thanks for the subscribe!

Super important to remove the set screw before tapping on the motor to dislodge it!! I banged on it with a hammer and ended up bending the blower wheel and housing.
@fixitFlip Жыл бұрын
True. Mine did not have one but if it does you should definitely loosen that up first.

Thanks, was worried I would not be able to get the squirrel fan back on - had to pinch some small compression clips open to get the shaft to seat properly - but it worked. Dangerous working with plastic from the 1970's!

Can you show me how to install new blower wheel onto shaft, is it simply a pressure fit ? Thanks in advance, great stuff you do here.
@fixitFlip3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes it should just snap right on with a little force. Some brands will have a retainer nut at the end of the shaft, but this was does not.

I'm glad you've helped some people-but it may not be a good idea to give blanket fan-whacking advice like this. I tried this on the Reversomatic fan motor I just replaced, and it wouldn't budge. When I more thoroughly cleaned the spindle inside the turbine, I found it was secured by an Allen screw that had to be loosened. Just saying.
@juliaryan66312 жыл бұрын
Found that out myself today too. I should have looked at all the comments!!! I have an old Miami-Carey fan that I don't want to just replace because the motor does still work. It just needs to be cleaned. I did try to whack the blower wheel off initially, but before really whacking it, I got a 2nd opinion from our neighbor who fixes power tools and small motors for his job. Same thing. Needs it an allen wrench, and one with a long arm to reach in. This video was still helpful though when I fixed our more modern Broan basic fan.

Same technique for a vent over the stove with the motor being putside?

How to you reattach cage to the motor? Thanks
@fixitFlip Жыл бұрын
It just slides right back on. If yours had a clip on the end, just make sure to put that back in.
@what_now_16 күн бұрын
The blower wheel on my dehumidifier is warped like that, is it time to replace it?
@fixitFlip16 күн бұрын
If it's making a noise that is annoying, then yes! If it's still functioning and not rattling, I would leave it alone.
@koaasst Жыл бұрын
i had to hit mine so hard to get it to budge that the opposite bearing vibrated down the shaft so i had to set that end in the vise to get it back, but ahh, brushes adjusted so i have ac in my jeep for a little longer. brushes almost toast.
@fixitFlip Жыл бұрын
Well, glad you got the AC back for now.
@rickclink919610 ай бұрын
I spoke too soon. Mine has the motor mount in between the squirrel cage and the motor. I just used dry toothbrush and compressed air.
@fixitFlip10 ай бұрын
Good idea.
@MusicChannel443 жыл бұрын
One problem, you started at step 2. There's a wire spring wrapped around the fan where it the motor shaft comes through. Nothing happens until that's removed in order to remove the fan. Guess I'll just have to learn as I go.

i got plenty of toilet paper But i'am roughting it on purpose to see what to use. Ok this brown wraping paper they use to stuff boxes, take it cut it 2 toilet paper squares long and 1 toilet paper size wide, Soak it in warm water wad it up let it soak good, then squeeze the water out pull apart to lay out flat let it dry, very soft and strong can use it to blow your noise too NOW this is NOT SEPETIC TANK SAFE, BUT CAN FLUSH IT DOWN CITY SEWAGE , sepetic tank must burn it or bury it or trash it
