Probably not at least in Texas, because we had no restrictions when applying for the driver's license. We were on a tourist visa (B1/B2) and obtained it in Texas. However, please note that not all states issue licenses to tourists, so rules may vary by state. Thanks!

It really depends from state to state; we personally asked in Chicago and Texas. So, in those states, anyone with an international driving license is allowed to drive for up to 3 to 6 months. Assuming it is the same in New York too; please check with their DMV. Thanks.

The Driver Ed course is not necessary if you are above 25. However, If you choose not to take the course, you can directly visit the DMV and arrange for the written test. But if you take the Ed course, even if you are above 25, you will have the option to take an online test with a set of questions and time restrictions. You can take this test from your own PC and at your own time convenience. After passing this, you can obtain the digital certificate of completion, which is equivalent to the written test taken at the DMV. You can then use these documents; visit DMV, pay fees and arrange dates to directly appear for the road test. I am 30+ and took this test in Texas (not sure about other states). Hope this helps.

It really depends on your Legal Status in the USA as per your I94 form. For anyone on a tourist visa, the validity will be maximum of 6 months (from entry to the USA and not when you applied for the license). So please check your i94 form. Thanks.

Address verification is mandatory to obtain the license because once you pass the written/road test, your license will be emailed to that address, rather than collected from the DMV. One suggestion we can offer is to either have the hotel/accommodation person accompany you to the DMV, or the third-party institute may be able to assist you. Alternatively, you could open two bank accounts in Texas and obtain statements (DMV requires two valid address documents).

@@abhishekjadhav9289 Sadly, NO. Your license will be valid according to your legal status in the USA - you can find this on your I94 form. Usually, for a tourist visa, the license validity is 6 months (from the entry to the USA, not when you applied for the license). You will have 2 years' time to renew your license after expiry.
