I was so close to sub 20 recently. Got it down to 20:01 before losing motivation for a couple of months. Really need to get back on it!

I just recently broke 20 minutes in the 5k a couple weeks ago don’t give up man it’s a great feeling!

That’s amazing may I ask what was your 5k time before it and how long did it take you to get down to 20?

@@bradd2k2 idk if u we’re talking to me or not but in case u were in may of last year I started at a time of just over 24:00 minutes I think 24:04 and on February 10th of this year I ran a 5k in 19:46 keep in mind though I did not start training seriously until October of that year, that summer I barley even ran so to be realistic and taking things like school (or job) and age may effect how much time it takes to achieve the time (as well as starting point in time) as a pointer I’m 13 and in 8th grade so I always trained right after school that’s just my situation though I hope you get what u want!!

If you're running a 5k, in the morning, I wouldn't eat at all, until after it. Nothing better than that light stomach feeling and no gastro issues. Plus you run faster in anticipation of breakfast when you get home 😂
@francolive571810 ай бұрын
100 percent fuel up night before. I don't understand these people who eat so close to a run.

Terrible advice, eat something small like a banana or granola bar, but you're not helping anything by not eating

My mantra--"Crazy arms!" And I start really pumping my arms to make my legs move. The 5k doesn't get enough respect. It's my favorite distance because you can be competitive no matter the pace.
@him0502 ай бұрын
I agree, it doesn’t get enough respect. I think it’s because it’s the average length of most casual runner’s casual runs. So people get in the mindset of because they do it all the time, it’s easy. But they’re not doing a max effort 5k all the time.

5k sounds so easy and doable, until you realise what people mean by it is run it as fast as possible, sometimes in under 20... I need probably about 35 minutes and I am actually proud that I can do that.

Do you think porridge is a good thing to have before a race? Also how long before a run should you fuel?
@AdamSielicki10 ай бұрын
Yes it's good, but too much fiber can cause issues. 2 hours is a baseline for porridge for me

Make sure to add honey and have some caffeine as its proven to improve endurance

Did my first 5k on Saturday and got 28:35, for a lazy 53yo who was on W6R3 of c25k and could barely do a minute 6 weeks ago. So today I set myself 8x400m intervals and got them all under 5min/km pace……….my stretch target is a 25min 5k in a few months, just working out how to get there whilst staying injury free. Don’t run before I can walk……..I think. 🤔🤣

Sarah's 5k time is hugely impressive, even though she doesn't look like she has speed, a 21 minute 5k is really good. With all the running I do, and all my visible muscle, people would probably expect me to be faster than her but I'd be coming in more than a couple of minutes behind her if I was pushing myself... I really need to do more high-speed training, all the constant easy runs just enable me to keep going and going and going, but not get any faster.
