Great video! Lots of people hate maths and assume it’s something you are naturally talented at. In all honesty, I think a large amount of the “talented” just have the right mentality. For the JC and a lot of fifth year I was a low H3 or H4 student. I studied lots over the summer and ended up finding the subject interesting. So much so, it’s one of my strongest subjects right now and it’s honestly my top college choice.

very well said. I am happy that you enjoy maths 😄

This was helpful I am like on this verge where I don’t know what to do between like ordinary and higher part of me knows I’m going to drop but I still wanna try but I had to put so much aside to just pass it in the Jc and like I just passed by the bare minimum and like I worked so harddddddd
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
ah i get your struggles and i had some like this too...what helped me decide was that even getting a low grade in higher level has more points than getting really high in ordinary level...getting h4 or h3 is really doable in maths with some extra hard work😀
@NegativeAccelerate4 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough dilemma. But just remember that a H6 in maths is 71 points. If you think you can get a H4 or above in all your other subjects, I’d definitely drop it. However, if you already are doing an ordinary level subject, keep it, because dropping it would lose you like 40 points. But if you think the time you spend on maths could earn you 40 points by increasing your other subjects by 4 grades, drop it. Eg. Grades with Maths. No maths Geography H5 -> H3 English H4 -> H3 Irish. 03 -> 02 Where you have gained an extra 44 points by putting in the extra work that you spent on maths into your other subjects. Most people I know that dropped maths in 5th year regretted it as they ended up putting in just as much effort into Irish for wayyy less points and they didn’t want to drop another subject.

Putin’s Gay Twin I had to drop maths because I kinda got kicked out I failed every test I’ve had this year even after studying 6 hours for everything I only need 350 points for my course anyways and I do eight subjects cause I’ve Japanese. I was crying over maths and I couldn’t do my hw I was getting tutored see I have dyscalcuia so I’m not able for maths at all no matter how hard I try I just couldn’t do it thanks for the advice though 🤗🤗🤗🤗
@NegativeAccelerate4 жыл бұрын
Amy Walsh haha it actually sounds like a good decision. You’ll be less stressed and those 6 hours could earn you an extra 44 points in other subjects. But yeah if you think you’ll easily get the points for your course then it doesn’t even matter

I loved the mindset part of the video. I really needed to hear it. Thanks for this too. I'm only in 2nd year but I have my heart set on being a doctor. In future could you make a video about how you repeated the leaving cert. I'm worried I might not get the grade I want in leaving cert. And I really wanna know my options. Because I didn’t take maths serious at all. I never did my homework and anytime we got these worksheets based on a certain topic, I’ll leave it till before the night It’s due and I always got below 40%. I also barely took down notes in class. I haven’t done any maths since March but I recently started being serious with it at the end of July. But right now I still feel like I can’t improve past the H4’s I always get. And to me a H4 isn’t good enough (cuz I intend to study medicine). I don’t know what do to.

What do you recommend for students in the junior cycle. I really want to be a doctor and I'm willing to put the work in but I don't have anyone to ask for advice. What good habits should I start? Should I do any extracurriculars? I always stress about these things and I'm so happy I found you because now I found someone who can help.

Hi thank u for support...i think my best advice would be to take it slowly...its very easy to burnout. For JC just study for your exams and try to get as many high grades as you can. If you have hobbies or other passions do pursue them and not to always focus on school all the time😊

@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
hi that is a common problem to have and i hope i answered that in the video but i think you will need to be more specific in what you find hard in the exam...is it the wording ?the equations ? the calculations or section b? you will have to narrow it down and try solving the problem then^^
@marziajamali6924 жыл бұрын
@@KiMai actually i find the context and application section extremely hard than section A and questions makes me confuse
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
@@marziajamali692 yes that section is designed to be harder because they are looking for APPLICATION of maths and not just rote learned maths...you will have to practice those kinds of questions A LOT and then try to figure out what are they asking (books on logic can help with wording of the questions ) and try solving them with a friend...also don't leave a question because u cant solve it, keep at it until you can or you know why you cant solve it. hope this helps🌸

Just a quick question if I only study exam questions woukd I fo fine or do I have to study each chapter one by one from the book or will I be fine if I do exam questions from that topic and only open book if stuck or is that bad ?
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
in general if you can do exam qs fine then overall you will be grand but they can always bring a new q in the exam thats in the book but never examined in the exam paper...that question could be the question which will decide h1 or h2 so I would say if you have time to go over the book topics too :)

Getting straight H6 with minimum study (just homework) but I’m willing to put in the work now... I’m kinda one of them that wants to find out the most common topics that show up and study them. Because I hate studying something that is likely not to come up. So, in your opinion what is the best topics to study that come up most? Thanks.
@KiMai3 жыл бұрын
I am happy you found this video helpful ! many common topics are algebra, calculus, geometry. However in maths all topics interchange and connect so I suggest giving them all a chance 😀

Would you recommend writing the notes out first before doing the exam questions?
@KiMai3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend doing it simultaneously, write notes on one topic then do exam as on that topic. then move on to the next topic. This is a bit time consuming so change around according to how close your exams are. Exam qs always get priority over notes

Hey I’m just curious but do you think if I can do all the past exam qs ill be fine for the leaving cert
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
hi the question isn't about getting all the exam qs done but it's about active learning as opposed to passive learning...if you are just going to do the exams for the sake of completing them it won't be as effective as using those qs as a tool to actively learn your material :) so short answer yes you will be fine if you are doing them actively
@briannagold38494 жыл бұрын
@@KiMai Emm so do you mean that as I practice the exam qs I should make sure I understand what I’m doing
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
yes kind of. So the purpose of the exam qs would be to familiarize yourself with exam material so you will know what kind of qs come up. You can also use exam papers to test your knowledge and use exam papers as a recall tool. It can also be used before you learn the material to identify how much of the material do you even know before you even jump in. Bottom line is to not approach any of your learning including your exams as just something to do mindlessly and be proactive in what you are doing : )

Do you think being very serious and consistent with all leaving cert subjects especially maths now (I’m starting 6th year this month) can still bring up your grades to like H2's or maybe if I'm lucky a H1.
@KiMai4 жыл бұрын
yes working on your weakness while maintaining your strengths will definitely improve your grade but the jump from h2 to h1 is harder than the jump from h4 to h2 so it's hard to predict whether one can get h1 or not easily. what matters is you putting in your effort now and worrying about results later

I just failed my 5th year Summer test HL (i got 40% in the christmas) but the test i found was extremely hard, what should i do in 6th year that will boost my grade to a h4 min? (I am willing to put the work in and i wont be getting grinds) and will just doing exam papers help me ?
@KiMai3 жыл бұрын
hello that's unfortunate to hear but we can make this a learning experience and hopefully increase our grade. 1. so first of all, you will have to do some analyzing. What made the test hard? what topics were in the test?could u have done something diff? what was tge best marked q and what was the worst? you will have to be honest with yourself at this stage and find your weaknesses. is it because u actually didn't study at all? this will be a hard one to answer since this will involve analysis your own self. 2. after you have figured out the issues, start cracking them right away. over summer don't stress about 6tg yr rather whenever u get time, work on ur 5th yr content. the chaps u found hard and make a plan if u want. 3. gather your resources. figure out what study works best for u? find KZbin videos, online resources, books etc and start making some notes for yourself. These should be tailored to u. make notes of things U find hard. 4. practice practice and practice. try doing qs u find hard, make note of qs u find hard and go over them often. 5. you can reach out to me on my dms on insta for more qs. hope this helps 💕
