What is ONE plateau-smashing mixing tip you've learned that made a huge difference to your mixes? 🤔 I'd love to know so I can steal it for myself! 😆👇

Extra trick: you can assign a shortcut to solo your reference track. That way you don't have to go back and forth with your mouse.

I recently grabbed Metric AB and find it to be a really great tool for referencing because, as well as being able to switch between the two nicely and having a great set of metering tools (though I do prefer some parts of SPAN), it also automatically gain-matches the project track to the reference track. It makes it much easier to reference well.

I send both kick and bass line (s) to a send line and add a Glue compressor ( med attack) and I tweak with Threshold, till it shows 2-3 db reduction. both Kick and bass would sound better!

I do the same but with Multiband Compressor instead.

I don't understand...If the levels are already there and it sounds good does it really need a master?

Great question!!! ❤❤

Great question! Mastering will add a little bit of polish, but more importantly, bring it to a commercial level of loudness (via compression and limiting) so it sounds as loud as other tracks it might be played alongside. It used to be for other reasons (like making sure it could be cut to vinyl successfully) but nowadays it’s more just about the loudness

Im not sure why you persist with this method of referencing with span when you can sidechain with the VST2 version?! Or use TDR Prism (free) and sidechain your reference for an overlay, no need for 2 windows. 👍

how do you get the vst2 version for mac?

Great tips as usual. However. crafting a downbeat with a snare ir hi-hat directly rolling into a kick sounds horrible and just sets up a DJ for failure as when mixing it sounds like he can't line up the beats properly and sounds unprofessional.
