So you want to know how to get a Pixar Animation Internship? Well, you've come to the right place! Now, even though I've never interned at Pixar myself (I made it past the final round, but the internship program got cut for the quarter I applied - find the full story on my blog), I have some very close friends who have worked and are currently working there. I also know a couple of recruiters at Pixar who shared with me what type of resumes and skills they look for when considering an intern. Check out animation mentor! It's the first online animation school that started in 2005, that seems to be where most people in the animation industry come from. And at the same time many people also don't say the big schools like cal arts or art center are worth it. A few have gone to both and definitely regret going in debt at the big schools.

Hi I just applied to the Pixar internship and I just feel REALLY unqualified...I’m just a college student and I have no other previous studios on my resume....should I still have hope or do I even stand a chance?

I've been there plenty of times! After being rejected from more internships than gotten accepted to, I tended to submit my application and forget about it all together. Rather than focusing on if I'll get an interview, I learned to focus on improving my resume and building my experience so that the next time that I apply, I feel like I have a stronger application and resume! Eric, thank you so much for this video. I'm a junior story artist in animated series, and getting into story department at Pixar is my dream job since I'm little. I'll try to be patient and all your tips are serious stuff, I'll keep it in mind. It's so hard to feel confident enough to even dream about it. I don't know if I'll get into CN, or Nick, or any other big american studio to have a more consistent resume. I mean, I'm just from a little studio in Paris...Thank you for video, really. It makes me feel that, somehow, someday, I'll make it.

Hey MB, don't give up on your dream! Continue to work hard, learn new skills, and improve your portfolio and expand your resume. If you want to work at a major animation studio in America, you should consider becoming a freelancer. You don't have to move, and you have an opportunity to work 40hrs/week. Try connecting with people at studios that you want to work for on LinkedIn. Build a connection, show them your work and ask them to keep you in mind if a freelance opportunity arises. Best of luck!

I really liked your video Eric, I just recently graduated with my animation degree but wasn’t able to get an internship. Now I’ve applied to some summer internships for recent grads including Disney and Pixar and I really improved my resume and cover letter as well as kept adding more to my portfolio. Hey, great video! Thank you so much it was super informative. I'm currently in my first year at uni on my Animation BA course, but haven't interned for any animation studios before so I'm worried that leaving my experience section blank will look bad. I thought maybe i would apply for laika and warner bros first and try to get an internship there then apply to pixar next year? What would you recommend?

Hey Eric! I enjoyed watching your video and took note of everything you said, as I've just recently applied for a few Pixar Internships! Now that I've filled out my applications, is there anything you'd recommend I do? Also, I know it says on the website that they don't call in for interviews until after the deadline (February~March 2019,) is that when they would call me for a phone interview, if they considered me? Again, thanks for the advice! Just thinking about getting the opportunity to be interviewed by Pixar is a dream come true!

Hi Man the Dan! All you can do now is wait for their reply and continue to build your resume with other relevant experiences or internships. I believe they'll email you to schedule an interview. Not too sure the exact months however. I wish you the best of luck! Keep me posted!

Hey Michaela! Thank you for watching my videos! Yes, studios like DreamWorks do accept international interns. The best way to keep up to date and to find if international students are eligible to apply is to go to their internship FAQ page and the studio will let you know if there if they do or not. DreamWorks is currently accepting applicants for interns. You should check it out and apply! Deadline is July 30th. Best of luck!

@@EricBravo oh my thank you so much for you reply!! I checked the FAQ page and it does say that international students can apply. However, when I do go through the early career options, the intern options always say that I have to be someone who can work on the US without sponsorship from them.. So I'm very confused.. Woukd it have to be the visa with excelled excellence in the occupation I'm applying for? Or is it more like I shoukd study abroad in the US and try to apply as an intern with a student visa?

I’m a Highschool student and the only thing really keeping me in school is hoping to maybe get into art school, make my art better and hopefully get internships at animation studios (preferably Pixar ofc haha)

Hey, is this an effective way to hire people. I plan to start a studio one day. I like the idea of having a professional aura but is it really necessary to dismiss an otherwise great portfolio because of a grammatical error. I love good grammar and highbrow lexis but I'm not sure if that's the right way. That said, going for the 'best' seems to work as the quality at Pixar is great. Maybe this exclusivity helps attract the best talent.

Its my absolute dream to work at Pixar, art has been my passion for as long as I can remember and there is nothing I enjoy more... But I live in Australia, so- if I wanted to end up at Pixar, would I have to move to America? And if I did, is that a huge risk considering I might never get the job? But even if I don't get the job, I'd rather try and fail rather than not try and never find out. What do you think?

Hi Eric. I see advice regarding internships. I’ve been out of college for a few years with a Bachelor’s Degree in art (with a focus on graphic design). Is there a step or program you recommend? I apply to several studios, but I don’t get any responses. Thank you.

Some studios have artist programs where you don't need to be in college. These are skills specific and you'd need a portfolio. I know Disney Animation has Trainee & Apprenticeships for recent graduates. You should check that out. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Mara! It honestly depends on how your cover letter and resume look like. Your degree doesn't really matter, as long as you are passionate about animation and you are taking steps towards getting experience in some way or another. If you don't have any experience in animation, I'd recommend joining a club or an organization related to animation, film, or even anime and if your school doesn't have any of these clubs, start one! Hi Bashar! That's amazing that you're already thinking ahead and that you know what you want to pursue. I'd honestly just write every day. Come up with ideas for various movie ideas and read a ton of movie scripts so when you are in college and eligible to pursue this, you'll be ready and hopefully have already found your writing voice. Also, try to reach out to animation screenwriters on LinkedIn and make some connections. I found friendly ones on there and they are usually open to helping out and giving advice. Congratulations! Of course! You can look into DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, Pixar, and Disney Animation. There studios all over 3D animation internships. I'd recommend DreamWorks as they have a trainee program where DreamWorks artists and directors train you for 12-weeks. It's also paid too! Best of luck! 😄

Hey Henry! It does not guaranteed a job, but if you shine at your internship, and if there's a job opening, they'll be more inclined to choice a Pixar intern than someone from the outside. Hope this helps!

Hi Red Gummy! Yes, international students are eligible to apply at most studios. It's always best to look at the studio's FAQ site to confirm if anything changes. There are not many animator jobs at animation studios in the US. The major studios mainly outsource to overseas. I know Technicolor is in India and has an animation team. Have you considered checking them out?

Great question! I usually wear business professional attire during an interview. During my internship at Nickelodeon, they told us interns to dress to impress. It makes you stand out from other candidates and shows that you really care for the position.
