Agree that the width of ring makes quite a difference. If you have a large knuckle like me a wider ring once on will be a better tighter fit than a narrow ring that will slip about on the finger.

Ring sizers measure in full & half sizes, but not in quarters. Also, ring sizes vary in full & scant sizes. For example, a size 6 full will fall at the bottom of the 6 line on a mandrel (sizing stick), while a size 6 scant will fall just at the top of the 6 line. The same goes for all other sizes. It’s also true that all fingers are different & that means that your ring finger on your left hand will most likely be different from your ring finger on your right hand. Your finger sizes can also vary depending on weather & what you ate prior to getting your finger sized. For example, your fingers shrink when it’s cold as your blood vessels constrict and your fingers swell in heat & humidity. Salty foods & alcohol can also make your hands swell up. A thin ring can fit differently than a wider ring & a ring with an open back (under the center stone, mainly on larger rings like school rings & cocktail rings) will also fit differently.

Excellent advice. I was not able to guess or easily find out her ring size. I had to do something very bold. When I was going to propose I took her shopping that day. I bought her some clothing she liked. Then I told her I want to look at something in the jewellery store that I know. I have bought some watches in that store. This was in 1990. When in the store I asked her if I was to propose, show me what dream diamond ring you would like. She picked one thinking it was only a wish. Then right there in the store I told her I want to give her the ring she chose to be our engagement ring. They sized it right on the spot. I also bought the wedding ring for her at the same time. Without thinking the ring would be a reality that I would buy that ring, the cost was about 5 months of the average salary at the time. She was stunned. We are married 32 years. I am still buying her rings and bracelets.

My son had his school ring sized and the employee of the company used some type of tape....his ring was loose and so were several of his friends. One of his friends lost his, it fell off, the day after they received the ring. This was my reason for looking into this.

Well done. I get so many customers who use those silly paper ones. Best way to size her finger is with her finger! Guys...you will still be the hero if you give her the ring and then bring her to the jewelers for sizing. Dont worry...be happy.

8mm = 0.5 size up compared to narrow bands. comfort fit = 0.25 size down due to extra room. but then you can never be sure if 9.5 size you measured is good, because you might have mesured it too tight; you want it tight over the knuckle but not when it's deeper in. I'd recommend a ring sizer set from amazon for $10. And have the ring sizer ring on for 24 hours. Your finger size actually chagnes througout the day.

if you're buying online, you should get fitted from the place you're buying the ring...local jeweler fitted me at a 9.25 but the ring i got fit me perfectly at a 10

Do not use a print-off guide to find your ring size. Incredibly flawed, you'll end up with the total wrong size. Crazy companies actually offer this chart as a guide when its more misleading.
