Your content is great. Im about to finish an AAS in cybersecurity and I’ve completed A+, Net+, Sec+, CCNA, and AZ-900 in the last 6 months. Workin on LinkedIn and getting some projects done outside of school. The hardest part for me is translating projects to the resume. Also this is a career change from sales so no relevant IT experience is making this very difficult. Thanks for the motivation.

Best of luck! You got a lot of great certifications and good job on building your hands on skills.

Remember, job is not gonna come to you, it is you that will go and hunt for that job. You have all these certifications that will help you land your first interview. Go out there and start submitting your resume and create your portfolio and LinkedIn account. Good luck!

I’m going to finish my degree in August of 2025, I plan on getting my SEC+ or maybe NET+ certification this upcoming summer. My professor said I shouldn’t need SEC+ because of my degree though. I’m really hoping I can start to work on a SOC team straight out of college. Especially after I complete all my internship experiences
@MyDFIR8 ай бұрын
Nice! You could try and get away without one but Sec+ is nice to have

I think I improve odds to land my 1st CS job a lot by willing to relocate anywhere in USA
@MyDFIR11 ай бұрын
Yeah unfortunately location does play a huge role as some simply don’t offer much opportunity 🙁

I am pivoting into cybersecurity. I have multiple certs including the sec+ and CEH, a Masters (in a not relevant field), projects, and relevant skills on my resume. I also have a thorough Linkedin profile. I have yet to get an interview or single positive response for an entry level SOC position in months of applying. One thing I don't have is security clearance which seems to be a requirement for most positions around the area I live. Do you have any advice for someone lacking this piece? I will be networking more in 2024 and hopefully that will set me up for success.
@MyDFIR11 ай бұрын
That is a great question and great job on you for obtaining the certifications & building on projects. When it comes to clearance there really isn’t much you can do except view the requirements. At the end of the day, the job market as it stands, sucks due to cost and 2021-2022 hiring spree. Even if you are doing the right steps (which it sounds like you are) - companies might not be hiring yet until their budget is back to normal. My advice to you is continue to apply, if money is tight, look for a part-time role or an IT related role full time while continuing to improve on your technical skills.

Hello @MyDFIR I just want to know if SSCP of ISC2 is a good certification to do or not? Please let me know. Keep rocking.....
@MyDFIR11 ай бұрын
I haven’t taken it personally but I know some folks in my network have and no complaints so far. I’ve also heard it being similar to CISSP so if it is anything like that, it would be more of a “managerial” certificate but again, this is based on assumptions as I haven’t taken it.

Kindly, let know how AI/ML is affecting cybersecurity especially soc. I have a feeling it's going to have a profound impact on it too
@MyDFIR11 ай бұрын
Great question, at the end of the day, I don’t see it making THAT big of an impact (yet). Don’t get me wrong, ML/AI will help and allow us to focus on what we do best as an analyst which is investigations.
