Hi Ricardo, thanks for the video. The intro link is not working and I would love to look into getting mentorship from you.

I love your channel. It has helped me a lot. Man 2023/2024 has been so tough. I’m switching careers with 8 years of design experience. But a lot of HR want UX title experience and didn’t care about my relevant experience. I hope 2025 gets better 😢
@rahpstudio3 ай бұрын
Oh trust me, I get it. When I was interning in 2019, I asked my UX manager about my previous experience in Architecture and Graphic Design and she basically said none of it counts towards UX, which I understand shouldn't count towards a senior UX position, but in my opinion, design fundamentals are cross-disciplinary. Truthfully, the reason my visual design skills were so strong was because I had years of graphic design experience prior to switching to UX so, trust me, I know how frustrating it is.
@zeirilantigua3 ай бұрын
@@rahpstudio yea exactly. I had to take a break from interviewing because some of them made me feel stupid and unqualified. Even though my strength is in UI/visual design. But they see fashion design on my experience and I am put in a specific category in their minds. Being a UX designer is having empathy and unbiased approaches, the irony of it all lol

@@zeirilantiguathis is the problem with non-designers hiring designers. They use cookie cutter methods to hire and it creates a lot of barriers for new designers. Instead of just letting the work speak for itself. Your comment was from a year ago so I hope you have found work by now 😊

The last part of your video really helped me relax! I’m 24 and just graduated with my master's this year. I often feel like I’m in a rush to find a job. I even started an internship last week, but sometimes it feels like it’s just not enough since everyone seems to be competing. I worry that I have less time, but your video and your words made me realize that this is all part of a journey. Thank you!

Congrats on your internship!! It's a tough market for getting internships too, so you're a step ahead!

Aw, I'm glad to hear the video helped! +1 to what Sara said. You're doing great and, you never know, your internship might turn into a full time position :)

Thank you for the practical advice!! I'm midway a UX bootcamp, coming from an apparel graphic design and visual arts background, and have been super discouraged/worried about what the job market will be like in a few months. I appreciate how realistic, yet encouraging you are. Thanks!!
@rahpstudio3 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! And don't worry, feeling worried is completely normal. The job market is like investing, hard to time correctly so you're not the only frustrated. Just make sure to make your portfolio feel like an extension of yourself and your interests to help you stand out but you're already in a great starting point with a design background :) Feel free to check out the Discord community if you want to chat with other designers btw, it's still very small but growing discord.gg/FP2pw6wfhp

Heyy ricardo. Great video as always. Um...i just had a question. Do you think i should spend a shit ton of money on a bachelors degree in graphic design and then master in a specialized ui ux course OR spend minimal fees on a psych ug degree and then master in ui ux? Im just really confused at this point.
@rahpstudioАй бұрын
That's a tough one! Have you considered a UX or HCI bachelor's degree at a public university or a university that will give you a scholarship? If you pursue a UX-focused bachelor's, you don't have to get a master's degree, so I would go for something that doesn't break the bank and reduces the amount of time you need to spend in school overall.

I have a side question - for product managers, do you know if any of them have a masters or mba? I was considering this not only for product design but business management in general

From my experience product managers come from different backgrounds but a lot of them have technical background in software engineering
