@@bakerbeginnerfood for you to walk-on, I know that you have to be enrolled at the school or in the process of enrolling. So you can reach out and ask about tryouts to get a feel for which school would be best to go to but then you’ll have to get enrolled. Those are the only stipulations I am aware of but you can also talk with the athletics compliance department at the school to verify.

@Scott-se5gg10 ай бұрын
I only played 2 weeks during highschool. And I didn’t even get to play, my senior year I got injured during practice with a severe sprain. Never got any PT or got to play in previous years due to financials. I’m thinking about going to college (I’m 22 now) and if I did should I walk on? It’s a smaller FCS D1 school, but I still lack some knowledge in the game. Do I have a chance? Or do you think they’d teach me without judgement? If I need to know stuff, what SHOULD I know as a fresh starter? I played outside of school with friends but that’s about it.
@TheWalkOnCoach10 ай бұрын
If you feel that football is your passion and it has been tugging at your conscious, then by all means go for it. Since you have little experience, you will need to put in extra extra work learning the game. Watch football and study the positions you think you will be best at. I would suggest you walk on at a D2 or D3 school to get experience first if that is possible. But also consider your major. Make sure your major is actually something you can put energy towards and use to make a great living after you graduate.

You’re welcome! Going from no football experience to playing college football is going to be tough. Give the tryout a shot and see how you like it. Worst case scenario, if you don’t make it the team, you’ll know what to work on. The backup plan is to find your schools club football team if they have one and try out for that. If that doesn’t work, local semi-pro football teams are an option too.

So, I transferred to a new school in my junior year of hs, and i broke my foot before my senior year so i wasn't able to get any film. I grew a passion for football starting from freshman year so i decided that I would try to walk-on somewhere, I am taking my first year as a college freshman at a community college but i plan to transfer after this year. I have been going to the gym as well as trying to gain some weight since I'm thinner than expected (I'm trying to play WR or K). Do you have any advice? Would you say that I'm on the right track, or is there something more I need to be doing?

Everything after that year was intramurals. I'm so motivated to play again. Any advice?
@TheWalkOnCoach2 жыл бұрын
What’s up Devon, I appreciate you tuning in. Glad to help. 1. So you are enrolled at the school already? 2. If you are already enrolled, then I would reach out to the athletic director/athletics compliance person to verify your eligibility. It gets tricky. They can help you get that in order. 3. @TheWalkOnCoach Жыл бұрын
Its 100% realistic. Where you play is the question. College ball can be hard to get into but it’s possible. Some colleges have intramural teams that you can try out for too. You could also try joining a semi-pro football team first. I play semi-pro ball now since I’ve graduated college.

There is a chance but I recommend you try to get some type of film. Film of you working out, running, showing your athletic ability and strengths. You could even play semi-pro football for a year or flag to get film and experience before walking on.

If I had the passion do you think I could be a walk on if I have no highschool experience?
@TheWalkOnCoach10 ай бұрын
Passion alone will not get you there. You will have to find a way to get some experience and develop your skills and football IQ. You could try semi-pro football or club football if the school has that. That would be the best way to learn and start to fulfill that passion.

I have heard a few stories of players transitioning from soccer to playing kicker for football. Its possible but you will need some type of film. You can record yourself kicking field goals from different spots on the field. Include that in your messages to coaches.

That is a good thing and yes I would say keep working out to be ready. At the same time, I would recommend working a plan B. If When the season ends, the coaches says the roster is full and you cant walk-on, what will be your plan B is what you need to plan for. They strung me along in college saying stuff like that and then after a year of working out and be prepared, they made up another reason why I couldn’t walk-on. That is a possibility in this situation so make sure you have a plan either way.
