Today I decided to Throw in the towel. I am going into junior year and I would’ve been my first year playing. I was very torn on what to do. I kept circling but I figured I need to make a decision. This video helped me a lot. I doodled still feel weird about it. When I went to practice it was like doing a job. I was there just to be there I didn’t hate it or like it. The only aspect I liked was it being social. And I liked being in a team. But I never had a passion for the sport itself. Next year I need to juggle NHS other extracurriculars and 6 APs when last yea it was barely juggling one ap class. I also have other hobbies I want to pursue. I didn’t enjoy quitting football but I didn’t want kids overwhelm myself and I figured the least important option had to go. I’m still not sure if I made the best decision. I talked to people in football and they all said games are fun. But they also enjoyed practice while for me it was just like going through the motions. And I had no excitement for tackles or catching the ball. I liked all that came with football except for football itself. And I also run track which I loved from the very start even in the worst practices. All the coaches thought I was going to be a varsity starter but I just can’t see myself loving the sport as much as the team would need me to. I still am not sure if I made the best decision. I guess I work like what you think if you see this. I didn’t hate football but I figured I didn’t want to overwhelm myself but you really don’t know until you try as well.

Exactly. You thought about it logically and made what you believed is best decision. Thats all you can do. And it’s not the end of the world. Even if you find that you want to play football later in life, you still can.

Thank you so much for this video man! Im playing basketball at the collegate level, and I relate to putting in extra effort and not reaping the benefits. It is also very academically challenging as well, with only the difficult classes piling up, it is growing to be too much. Another hard part is my nonexistent, diminishing social life outside of sports. I realize the possibility of quitting the sport is not me being soft, but instead it is me womening up to my real responsibilities, which is school, internships, and making connections.

I’ve played football since I was 9 years old I’m 22 now and been playin d1 in college going on my 5th year I have been a walk on at 2 different schools and haven’t had the best experience. I have an opportunity now to go and play on a scholarship at a d1 school and my dad has helped me a lot with getting this opportunity. At first we didn’t know exactly if I was gonna get put on a scholarship and my thing was I’m not going if I’m not gonna be on scholarship. But once they said I was gonna be on scholarship I still don’t really feel excited and passionate about going. I feel like my hearts just not in it and I can’t give it my all. My parents think I should at least go for the season and if I don’t like it be done but honestly like I said I’m just not passionate and feel like I’m burnt out from it. Do you think I would regret not giving my self one last chance to finally be on scholarship?
@TheWalkOnCoach
@TheWalkOnCoach 24 күн бұрын
Congrats on the scholarship. I think there several things to consider: 1)if you are paying for your education at the current school, then going to the school where you have a scholarship would definitely be a beneficial financial move for future you. Not having the burden of paying student loans once you start your career is a big advantage. On that basis alone, giving it a shot is worth it in my opinion. Make sure the education you get is worth it though. Make sure it’s a career path you would actually pursue. 2) Do you think you could find another way to re-motivate yourself that would help you put more effort into football? It may not be fun at the moment , but what is goals do you have that playing football would benefit? For example, I don’t like reading but I do read financial literacy books because I want financial freedom and to retire my mom and help others. So its deeper than reading, if that makes sense. 3) If you can find ways to motivate yourself, give it a shot for sure. If not, then its a more difficult decision. Writing out pros and cons of each choice always helps.

I have played basketball my whole life, and now have decided to play football going into my Sophomore year. My problem is the passion for both sports. I don’t have a feeling to play anymore for both sports, and have a passion for something else. Although I am a great player for both sports, I just can’t handle the stress and anxiety from waking up to getting out their and doing drills, only to get yelled at if I make a mistake which makes me feel like I am not good enough. I do hope if I continue to play, that there will be better days ahead!
@TheWalkOnCoach
@TheWalkOnCoach Ай бұрын
I hear that. What are you stressed and anxious about when it comes to training? Everyone gets yelled at for messing up. You shouldn’t correlate getting yelled at to not being good enough. During that play, yes, you weren’t good enough bc you didn’t do what was designed. But there’s always the next play to get it right. If you think about it that way, there will be better days. Try and find your motivation for playing the sport again. It can be hard but reactivate that motivation.

@CFBFan-j5z 24 күн бұрын
@@TheWalkOnCoach I should’ve stated this better, but it also came to a point where some things they said got to a personal level. Obviously they’re trying to push me to do better, but I couldn’t handle it. There was one incident where we were in a playoff game (basketball) and the assistant pulled me and told me we just can’t play you, you suck! That really got to me. What that did to me really affected my mental state, so anytime I get yelled at whether it was personal or not, it took a toll on me mentally. I could be overthinking this but again, in my mind it was way overboard. I will try to not think about my mistakes and getting yelled at, but if it gets to a point where they tell me I suck, I’m sorry but it’s hard for me to deal with that negativity.

Hey man, I wanted to give you a story of mine. My family loves to play soccer, both my older sibilings have played soccer since they were young. I was no different. But I am now 16 yrs old and I start feeling like I genuinely want to quit playing soccer. I have gotten serious depression and anxiety throughout my youth. I remember I tried killing myself twice because I was almost always a scapegoat on my team for mistakes that happen and I felt like I let the team down. Despite me working hard, I kept getting the same mental problems. I tried to push through the problems but once in a while they do come back. It seems as though my enjoyment in soccer has long gone and I am doing soccer only to stay fit. In high school I have gained such a huge disdain for my teammates because a lot of their attitudes hinder our teams performance. I was a junior last year and I was a varsity benchwarmer that would occasionally play the games. Entering senior year I am considering quitting soccer despite my coach wanting to start me but I do not want to waste my year that makes me feel like I am wasting my time and instead actually start trying to find something I can do for the rest of my life because I am still young.

You can use any object with a pointy tip. A screw driver or even a pen for the facemask. But if just removing the chinstrap, you need a screwdriver with a flathead. Worst case scenario, you may be able to unscrew the chinstrap clips with a butter knife.

I’m a senior in college and my basketball season ended. I have another year of eligibility due to covid. I have been in turmoil about taking that 5th year. regardless of what I do, my plan was to get my masters. I just have to decide on whether or not I want to play another year on top of a more difficult degree. I fear that I could miss out on having a positive influence on my team as a 5th year.. but I could barely hold myself together as a senior, and could not be a leader to any of my teammates.. i’m torn, because my mind and body are screaming at me to let it go and focus on academics and a career but I fear that I am stepping away from God’s plan for me. if I can’t pull myself together, then it would be best for me if I left.. still so torn but I might just be going crazy. been trying to make this decision for a year.

This is hard decision to make. Sounds like you might be doing some praying about this decision. One thing you can ask God is to be with you as you make this decision on whether or not to move on. That’s just what I do. Then figure out how to make your decision easier. If you write out the pros and cons of moving on from basketball and the pros and cons of staying, then weigh your options. Do you feel that future you would benefit more from playing basketball another year and managing academics or managing academics while also having more time to network to prep for your career?

I reached out to my mentors and people that have been with me through my career. I’m currently a junior, I will be a senior next fall, and I played for the first time I played football this year. I did it out of love for the game and I had always wanted to do it. I met a coach you to this day I’m grateful for who trained me and mentored me, and I thought I was prepared, but clearly I wasn’t ready at all. Idk if you know about the trinity league but it’s the hardest division of high school football in the country, so I didn’t really have a choice. Everyone is better than me, bigger, faster, stronger, etc, no matter how hard I tried, it was never good enough. I hated the season, being a 3rd string on jv, although I made some few friends and memories, idk if it’s enough. It gave me depression, which I still have, and I honestly can’t sleep at night trying to make a decision. I promised my personal coach I’d keep going and that I’d give it my all this off-season, but idk if it’s worth the sacrifice. I don’t wanna leave my senior year, my teammates, or my dreams, but idk if I can take it anymore. I quit baseball when I was in the 5th grade and it was my biggest regret, and I feel like it’s keeping me from quitting, same with my parents and all that they’ve done. I want to play football, but idk if I can make it happen, deep down I think I’ll always be a fan of the game, rather than a player, if you see this please give me your input, just stressing over this game.

This is tough situation but to try and make it more simple, think about the answers to these questions: 1) Is there another passion you have that would bring you joy that you want to pursue that football is currently taking time away from? 2) What will you gain if you stay on the team? What will you lose if you leave? And Visa Versa. Write these answers down. Make 2 columns, one for “stay”, one for “move on”. Make two sections under each column, one “gains”, one “loss” OR “pros” and “cons”. Weigh which side has more pros than cons (consider value and quantity). Pray on it real quick, and Choose your route.

If you feel that football is your passion and it has been tugging at your conscious, then by all means go for it. Since you have little experience, you will need to put in extra extra work learning the game. Watch football and study the positions you think you will be best at. I would suggest you walk on at a D2 or D3 school to get experience first if that is possible. But also consider your major. Make sure your major is actually something you can put energy towards and use to make a great living after you graduate.
