HOW TO GET A WHOLESALE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR CLOTHING BRAND

How to get a wholesale account for your clothing brand. In this video I talk about 4 of the vendors that I use for my clothing blanks and how to apply for their wholesale accounts.
I've talked about retail and wholesale prices through my previous clothing compare videos, but never explained how to actually get access to the wholesale prices, thus the purpose of this video being created.

Pretty sure that a wholesale rep/supplier will reach out via email. I reached out via text after that and made the process of getting to know the rep very easy! You then will most likely be given a confirmation and will have to give a source of ID. And Independent clothing usually requires you sign via docusign or something similar to that. Was super skeptical of giving ID because I am new to this.. but glad to know other companies are requesting the same! Great vid and hope this comment helps others

PPAC, PPAI, and ASI are trade associations. If you were a member of one of these, you would have an ID# that you could input.

I know this is a old post but I live in California and opened a clothing brand/Etsy shop this year, I mainly buy blanks wholesale using my resale license then print on them and sell on Etsy who then does the sales tax…do I have to pay anything more as far as the blanks I didn’t pay tax on initially? Any estimate on how long it took you to get a wholesale account with AS Colour? I set up a wholesale account with Independent and Rue Porter easily but I haven’t heard anything from AS Colour or even a confirmation that they received my application. It’s been about a week so I was wondering if you knew if your application got denied do they even let you know? Most manufacturers have vendor accounts that can buy wholesale clothes. If it’s cut n sewn then blanks are not involved

I’m in an apartment that restricts starting a businesses in your unit. If I apply for a sales license or even apply to the wholesale license online, am I in danger of getting evicted?

Restricts starting a business? Nah you shouldn’t be in danger. Look up what the details actually say about your property’s policy. Maybe they don’t want employees or tons of inventory there? If you’re running an online business it shouldn’t take up that much room. You could also pay for a storage elsewhere for inventory if you need to. But applying for those documents won’t affect anything, they wouldn’t even know that you have those documents

I don’t know a lot about this topic but I do think that when you register your business to get the EIN, do you have to dictate what type of code your business falls under, so I think it might be a different type of tax number but you could call or email the IRS and ask

You can charge your customers if you want or not, but you’ll still have to pay gov the sales tax when you collect those orders

@@brendanwolter8349 unfortunate? You’re not paying sales tax when you buy wholesale goods because the tax burden is now placed onto you as a reseller. Your customer is the final designation of that product so you collect sales tax and pay it. It’s not fun by any means like with any tax lol, but it’s how the business world really works. Look up what a “tax nexus” is. Most online brands only have a nexus in their own state. So you pay sales tax on your home state’s orders only which does lessen burden a bit.

Your sellers permit will be linked to your state’s sales and use tax department. They SHOULD have some kind of portal or UI for you to pay your sales tax quarterly. You can charge your consumers sales tax, or you can not charge them it. Either way you have to pay that sales tax back. But you need to research if your business has a tax nexus in your state and which orders you pay taxes on; I didn’t cover that because that wasn’t the purpose of the video, but it’s easily findable on google (your tax nexus that is)

I’d recommend a computer/laptop, more versatile. Adobe illustrator and Photoshop are great for making a mock ups and getting ideas out. I’m not sure what procreate can do if you can import pictures of the shirts and hoodies and then put graphics on top of them to create a “mock-up”

Hey man, I applied for LA Apparel once *2019* and they said I needed a wholesale license, even though they didn't ask for a sellers permit they still needed confirmation that I had a wholesale license

Yea I’ve been getting messages like that, so I guess LAA does follow up with a sellers permit form. Call your department of sales and use tax in your state and ask for the next steps to get the permit, that’s the only way to get it

@@lowwtonee Just because they don’t ask for it doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay taxes on your sales. Even without a sellers permit you still normally have to pay sales tax. It’s basically just a premium for “thanking” The government to allow you to sell as a business in The United States. Having a sellers permit gives you access to some pretty nice in browser software on your sales tax website that’s easy to fill out, normally. Even if you have no sales, you still have to file the sales tax, you just put $0. I’d recommend just getting the sellers permit and then learning as you go

There’s no blank that’s $5 that has a wholesale variant that’s already cheap. If a blank is like $7-$9 it’s already wholesale prices usually

@@catchwreck928 bc some blank shirts cost $12-$30 and sellers permit discounts those usually more than 50%. And hoodies too, makes a $60 hoodie blank into a $20-$27 one more or less. Shipping is shipping. That’s why you order more
