I’m not sure any of us can say why, but having abs is cool.
They’re sexy, something to be proud of. To show off, even. They’re the fitness equivalent of “having arrived.”
That’s probably why many people start working out with the sole purpose of getting a six pack.
And then the confusion begins.
Diet after diet, workout after workout, supplement after supplement, all claiming to be the key to getting a ripped core.
Frustration is next.
After months of trying anything and everything, still no abs. Just belly flab.
Well, if you can relate to any of that, you’ve come to the right place, because in just a few minutes, you’re going to know the exact steps to get abs.
And I think you’re going to be happy to see that it’s much easier than you’ve been led to believe by mainstream “gurus.”
At bottom, there are just three things you have to do to get the abs you really want:
1. Lose the belly fat.
2. Do a lot of heavy compound weightlifting.
3. Do the right ab and core exercises.
Yup, that’s it. No “weird tricks” or strange diets or silly supplements.
Let’s take a closer look at each of these steps.

Thanks for the info. Im currently working with a 6 pack and can see the last 2 developing slowly. I haven't done much weighted exercises fo r them and really don't train them directly cus as you mentioned, I emphasize the application of tips 1 & 2 highly. I'm probably going to start some weighted work soon to get them thicker. Keep the podcasts coming. Really appreciate tem

Great video. In my experience, ab training is necessary for staying strong in the core( back/abs) I simply fast(extended fasting) to melt the fat and like you said, everyone has them. Ab work just sculpts them.

I have overly dominant obliques, definitely make me look wider, is there a way to deactivate them? Even when I do something to target the middle of my abs, my obliques take over.

doesn't doing weighted ab work make your waist bigger/ blocky? What about the vaccums to work inner muscles while also keeping the waist small for best look.

Hey Mike! Great video. I have a really hard time with leg raises and exercises like bicycle crunches, because my hip flexors will hurt so much that I have to stop. I know I need to stand more when working at the computer and do some general stretching, but is there anything specific you recommend for releasing tight hip flexors?

Hey, thanks for the vid! :) Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are certain individuals (rare cases) who have only 4packs, just as people having 8 or even 10 packs. For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger had a 4 packs. I even looked into a study, where they've looked into several autopsies, and found that around 3-4 percent of the bodies had only 4 packs under their skin and fat. Now, I only know that, because I've happened to be one of these 4 pack guys... My packs are clearly visible, and I only have 4 , below them, there are just 2 long "sausages" XD

How often should we try to go up in weight? Once a week? Month?
@mynamewhatis7254
@mynamewhatis7254 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert, but I think you should pretty much always try and use the heaviest weight you can for the rep/set range you want to do. So up it as often as you can. Progress is fast at first so long as you're eating properly and sleeping, but the more advanced you are the more time it takes for progress.

Mike, you confuse me. Here you describe a whole other ab regimen then you do in BLS. In BLS it is rep range 8-10 (double prog) for 3 set of CC and 3*30 (double) sets of HLR a week. Not?
@MikeMatthewsFitness
@MikeMatthewsFitness 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah, I've altered the BLS routine some since this video has come out. Either one is viable though.

Do you think dumbells are better than machines
@chrisreed2841
@chrisreed2841 6 жыл бұрын
Read his book. He recommends free weights over machines and big, compound lifts over isolation exercises. So yes, dumbbells are generally better than machines... that said, it's not like machines are bad... they can still be an effective exercise, so if there are a couple machine exercises you really like, there's no reason to abandon them. Just make sure that most of your lifting is centered around the big, compound movements like Mike says (squat, deadlift, bench press, and overhead press), and then if you want to add a couple machines into your accessory exercises, then feel free to do so.
