Also for medical school it’s almost essential to have been to Grammar School, so really the journey to medicine begins in Primary school with passing the 11 plus and getting a place in grammar school. Most medical schools won’t consider your ucas application if you have not been to a grammar school. The only option is to apply to an overseas medical school.
@kanikadhanapal1977Ай бұрын
Why does it matter though?
@mrsir896824 күн бұрын
really? what about widening participation
@ELPaso1990TX22 күн бұрын
@@kanikadhanapal1977 it’s probably because grammar schools provide a much more focused enthusiastic learning environment where pupils are among pupils who want to learn with extracurricular activities. Mainstream secondary schools mostly prepare pupils for working in factory’s or retail etc so they don’t get such focused learning and pace of learning is slower. Pupils lack the enthusiasm that their grammar counterparts have. So when it comes to medical schools where an experienced enthusiasm to engage in leaning is mandatory they will choose those who went to grammar.

I am in a boarding school and all i could do was tutor my juniors and give them assistance and give extra classes for below average students . Could you please guide me on what more I could do?. I really appreciate your videos and they are very informative and helpful
@RohanYesudian2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Fathima - are you applying this year? It's best to have some work experience in a healthcare setting if possible. Have you tried seeking virtual work experience opportunities? However, don't worry if you can't find work experience because medical schools are being more lenient as they acknowledge the disruption COVID has caused in getting work experience placements. In my ebook i link to a great video which gives more tips on how to find work experience

Hello! Im a student starting yr12 and i idnt get the grades i want for GCSEs but still want to peruse in medicine with btecs, is it possible?
@arianamendes3722 күн бұрын
As long as your BTECS are equivalent to all 3 A Levels or at two (with A Level Chemistry) and you get D* in at least one of them, then you could have a chance into medical school. However, not all universities accept BTEC so you need to be selective of which medicinal school and be prepared to compensate in other areas of your application, work very hard in them.
@arianamendes3722 күн бұрын
Also, you can choose to resit some of your weak GCSEs for example higher tier math or higher tier sciences etc (if your school/college offers it) needed to meet the entry requirements and enrol into A Level Bio + Chem (if you want). It gives you more variety of which medical schools to apply for, hope this helps !

Hi! I'm taking bio, chem, French and perhaps Italian too, I checked the cambridge website, and they said that they only require A levels of one of chemistry and one from either bio, human bio, physics etc (I forgot-) and they didn't specify the third subject, do you think I'd have a chance if I scored all A* on my A-levels? Please reply I've been dying to get this question answered 😭😭
@RohanYesudian2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zion, according to the Cambridge admissions webpage for medicine (www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/medicine), although what you said is true, they do say that "Most applicants have at least three science/mathematics A Levels and some Colleges require this and/or particular subjects". So although a third maths/science subject is not required, you might have a competitive advantage of taking another maths/science subject, and taking the language as a 4th subject? However, you might want to check the individual college websites so see if there are any further requirements regarding A-level choices. Hope this helps!

hey! i'm an international student wanting to study medicine in the UK, but over here in australia we don't really need extracurriculars or anything for our uni applications since its generally based on academics for the most part so i never really got the chance to do any. if i can do work experience in a hospital and maybe volunteering at a library or something as well as have experience in an actual workplace setting (working at fast food) do you think it'll be sufficient for my application, or do you recommend something more?

is it better to take physics or math for a levels? In igcse, although I got an A, maths was a struggle for me so I am wondering if I should risk taking it. I could take math bio them and physics or wil it be enough taking 3 subjects? if so what's the best combination?

Hey Rohan! In your time i believe it was the BMAT, now UNIs consider UCAT, is there a particular cut off for this, or is it just one of the ways to judge an eligibility. Is there even point of applying if say the UCAT score falls below 2500

Do you think my application will be strong if I do maths, biology, chemistry and an epq or do I need to do a 4th a level on top of that to get into a top university such as Oxford or Cambridge.
@RohanYesudian2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sankalpa, your application will be strong even without the 4th A-level. A 4th A-level is not necessary for Oxbridge, but I recommend doing one if possible. See this video for more information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqmchGhpp82Fbqs

hey, how important are extra curricular? would it have a huge impact if i don’t have many?
@RohanYesudian Жыл бұрын
It depends where you are applying. You don't need many extra-curriculars - it's more about what skills you develop from doing them. Oxford and Cambridge in particular do not look much at extra-curriculars
@Void-fc6jn Жыл бұрын
Hello Rohan! I was wondering if alongside adequate clinical/healthcare work experience, tutoring younger students in school would be classed as volunteer work. I was also wondering if for extra-curricular activities I would need to offer evidence, as I am a self-taught musician but wouldn't have the means to prove that when making my personal statement. Awesome video, thank you for offering such insight into the application process! - Giselle
@RohanYesudian Жыл бұрын
Hi Giselle, thanks for your kind words and questions. Yes tutoring would count as volunteering if it were offered for free. You don't need any qualifications for evidence as extra-curriculars, You only need to reflect on what you have learnt from them in your personal statement. Hope this helps!
