This is actually so helpful! I started year 12 about a month ago, and I already feel as if I'm not as good as my peers in my subjects (I've been getting very low grades compared to everyone else). I do enjoy maths, and I do believe I can get a good grade in it, I just have no idea how to, especially since everyone seems to be well ahead of me in all matters. I feel like even if I do understand the topic in question during the lesson, by the time I go home and go back to it, I'm unable to complete any 'more difficult' textbook questions, never mind exam questions. This video was such a useful guide, so starting from tomorrow, I'll make sure to implement your tips! I'll update at the end of my A levels to see how it went :)

Well done Mann. Acc mad how much practise can impact your grade. I was getting Bs in the pure side of A Level maths in year 12 and was getting E in year 12 applied maths. Proper stressed me out thinking I would get D. Once I got a new pure teacher he made me do bare exam questions on topics that I was forced to recap over and keep going over. I ended up getting A* in my Maths on the Pure side by Year 13 September mocks….but I got an E in Applied still. Ploughing my way through, hoping these exams go well. Hoping to come out with As in my 2022 exams Insha Allah. Thanks bro, really are never alone ☺️

Phenomenal video mate, just subscribed. Hoping to see some more content about you! Been getting U’s and E’s in my monthly tests and ahh I’m just so demotivated
@aldrichcervania88333 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you subscribing man cheee! Sorry I just saw this comment!😖 Online learning has made it proper difficult for everyone and adapting to that new learning style is a mad one😳 I think for you if you’re feeling demotivated is constantly remember your “why.” True motivation comes from the HEART. It comes from intrinsically wanting to do something. My true motivation at the time was that, after feeling that ‘dip’ of failure, mate, I refuse to fail my A-levels again. Since I felt like my main friendship group at the time and teachers didn’t really support me emotionally, and I realised that self-motivation/self-discipline is the solution. So for you what the means is, learn how to self-discipline yourself bro. Learn what gets you to click. Learn what reasons help push you forward. Motivation = what inspires us to make change. Discipline = when motivation ends, this is your effort to act and continue. Motivation and discipline are Yin and Yang. It’s that balance. I hope this was useful and all the best with your tests :)

okay this actually helped so much, im currently year 13 and have been told that my a levels are cancelled but we obviously are still going to have some sort of assessments and tbh until now I never really knew how to approach maths when it came to revising. I got a D in my first year Jan mocks and have been predicted a B but hopefully I can push that up to an A. LOVED THIS VID xx
@aldrichcervania88334 жыл бұрын
Not hopefully... I believe you WILL push that grade an A!!😃 Maths is a conceptual subject and there are a lot of factors that go into getting high grades, but imo, getting high grades boils down to: 1) Trusting your curiosity to ask the right questions 2) The amount of time you put into “practising” (Even if it feels like you’re not getting anywhere) 3) Considering the thought process of all the questions you answer. Understanding why, and how each step is needed in your working out. All the best with your assessments, and I’m glad this video gave you a new perspective😆

I have exams/assessments for 8 of those subjects 4 times a year. It’s really stressful cause my mind gets so overloaded and causing me anxiety attacks.

Glad to hear that other people find value in examsolutions! Use online resources, remind yourself that getting that A in maths means that you’ll get into the firm choice uni to study whatever it is. Stay driven Casey. Stay positive! Your GOT this👊 :)

I really want an A in maths but I don't really want to repeat the year, my eoy exam is next week, but we never do tests so i can't tell where i am, except for the fact i failed the only test we done back in december ;-;, this advice is good but i dont know how to stay motivated when i feel like a failure
@aldrichcervania88333 жыл бұрын
Just saw this comment today😔 Hopefully your eoy exam last week (I assume it was last since you commented 2 weeks ago), that you tried your hardest! People feel like a failure at some point in their lives and that’s alright! What’s more important is how do you react from that? Some people blame others/the system, others take self-responsibility and other may have a mix. It really depends on your situation, but some resilience is still needed regardless, and resilience is an important life skill to be aware of and to learn. School doesn’t teach us these things and we’re left to learn them ourselves. Try have a conversation with yourself. Ask yourself “why do I feel like a failure” and “why do I want to be motivated” then ask “why” again, 5 times. Be honest with yourself. Be curious. I apologise for not seeing responding sooner, I would’ve defo tried to have made a video that tailored to this situation😔 hope your mental health is strong, despite what’s happened :)

Should I use a writing book for a level maths to answer book questions and then squared sheets that can be transferred for chapter summary, exam solutions notes and wrong questions and then insert topic tests after from pmt into a folder ? (i haven’t tried this yet and my books are extremely messy and I have such good understanding and then I forget due to my messiness and lack of notes and I’m obsessed with structure & neatness which is contradictory 💀) If this method is good I’m definitely recommending it I just need reassurance and may I see a sample of your folder 😭

What exam board for alevel maths do you think i should do if I'm trying to learn from home? I've heard edexcel is better but my school does aqa. It would be really helpful if i had an outside opinion.

Would defo recommend sticking to your exam board because theres no point learning things that wont be in the exam! On examsolutions, he has sorted his A levels tutorials based on exam boards, so I would blitz through the AQA related videos :)

Incredible, honest video man! My question is how many hours of A-level Maths did you do per day?
@aldrichcervania88333 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video, cheee!😄 I appreciate you commenting! I spent roughly 7(ish) hours per week. But I want you to understand the reason behind it, hence the long reply! At the start of the week, I’d forced myself to revise 1 hour per day, everyday however... After 6-7 weeks (I didn’t mention this in the video, otherwise it’d be too long), I felt like I was burning out since I was forcing myself to do stick to this strict routine, even when I knew I had to focus on other subjects, I would force myself to do 1 hour of maths instead. Overtime, this was unhealthy and it wasn’t good for my time management. That’s when I decided to change because if I didn’t, I’d be poor in prioritising my revision, and I’d probably end up getting my A/A* in maths, but E’s in my other subjects. I decided to study in 3 or 4 study sessions during the week, and rather than focusing on the amount of time I spent revising, I would just focus on whether or not I get maths/the topic in general. It was only a COINCIDENCE that I was actually doing 7(ish) hours a week, without me actually planning I’d do 7(ish) hours per week in the first place! I don’t want you to think “if I would just spend more time revising, I’d do well.” That’s not entirely true imo. I’d say you’re just 50% there. The other 50% (more importantly) is how ACTIVE you are in your revision/practise sessions. What do I mean exactly? So, in my study blocks, I’d always do questions that slightly challenge my brain [that could be, doing the next sub-exercise on the textbook my own (usually set as homework), that could be, doing exam questions with an open book, that could be, doing exam questions in timed conditions], or I’d be making notes that reflect my thought process (like in the video), or watch examsolutions to fully understand a topic. Note that I don’t just do one of these things per study sessions, sometimes it depends on my understanding of the topic I’m revising/practising for. I trust my curiosity to understand maths, and I just do what it takes for me to understand the topic better. From my experience, here’s my advice. Don’t worry about how much time you spend revising maths. Time will fly in the background as you’re learning. Worry about being as active as possible in your revision. Trust your curiosity. Google those questions. Watch online tutorials. Be patient. Email your teacher for help or study with your friends. Be active! You don’t necessarily need to revise everyday, it’s whatever works best for you. For me, that was study blocks which totalled to be 7(ish) hours per week anyway. You’ll realised that 1 hour passes by SO FAST when you’re learning how to do each topic, for example learning the trig ratios and doing CAST diagram questions. Hope this was insightful!😊🤝

@@aldrichcervania8833 Thankyou so much m8, yeah currently revising trig equations and cast diagrams, not the easiest tbh.

@hasinaghanizada60824 жыл бұрын
so did you not focus on answering textbook questions as much? thanks for the video btw!
@aldrichcervania88334 жыл бұрын
During lessons, I’d also be focusing on the textbook questions with my classmates and we’d get through most of them but, the ones we don’t get through, the teacher sets them as homework (usually). The next lesson, she’d give us general feedback as a class, and we’d quickly go over the questions people got wrong the most. The nerd that I became, I didn’t miss a single homework deadline lol, plus the teacher really stressed out to us that there is too much content to cover in one year, so we better stay on top of our work (and work independently), also from my experience of repeating a year in sixth form, I didn’t want a U grade again (that would be peak). As long as I knew the fundamental principles for each topic, referred to the questions I had, made precise notes for those questions, had a go with textbook questions (in class and homework), then I’d be feel ready to try exam style questions and not be fussed if I got it wrong or make any mistakes. This wasn’t an overnight process as well, I spent roughly 7+ hours on top of lessons per week, which is much more than what others typically did, but I was very determined to bag an A from the beginning, so yeah. Glad to know this video was decent, cheers!✊

@@aldrichcervania8833 thank you so much i appreciate the response! how often would you say you were doing exam questions and would you re-do the questions every few months for eg
@aldrichcervania88333 жыл бұрын
So, every end of topic, my teacher would set us an “end of topic” test in lesson, and before all of those end of topic exams, I’d go over the 2007 - 2015 past papers related to that topic before that test. On mathsphysicstutor, there’s a link which organises all the topics as one paper, and I’d go through them and ensure I understood exam styled questions. During the holidays, that’s when I’d go through the actual papers in exam conditions. A couple weeks before the real exams, I did the papers again. It’s worth mentioning that I didn’t just remember the questions, and jotted what I remembered. That’s not learning. I learnt everything from first principles, so that in the exam, the way I’d approach questions is “what do I know already, and how can I apply that?” It’s that mindset that allows me to answer any question despite it being reworded, and not being phased with questions that are designed to throw you off, or questions I’ve never seen before

Thank you for this great video. I’m wondering how much you revised in total for Each subject per week?
@aldrichcervania88333 жыл бұрын
At least 2 hours after school. I was hungry to do well so I was super motivated to work. I also thought about school as a 9am-5pm job, and since my school is 9am-3pm, an extra 2 hours shouldn’t be an issue tbf. On the weekend it varies depending on homework/difficulty of lessons/personal things/hobbies/etc, but usually I’d work at least 3-4 hours on Saturday and Sunday
