In 1973 my cousin bought a BSA Silver Star 650 I think many many years ago and as I was only 15 and working at motirXbikes in the UK I learned how to get a bike going. If we had the good fortune of KZbin at the time I would have been far more successful 😂

The apple cider vinegar does work but you get easily noticable flash rust within fifteen minutes ...just so everyone knows you don't specifically need apple cider vinegar normal vinegar(white distilled) will work just the same

How much will it cost if I just give my bike that hasn't ran in over 3 hears to a shop for them to fix
@thejunkman3 жыл бұрын
Contact the shop. Lots of factors go into the cost. Age of the bike is one.

what can we do to tune the carburettor inorder to lower fuel consumption or improve fuel economy
@thejunkman Жыл бұрын
Run as lean as safety as possible, but really a properly tuned carburetor is as efficient as it can be. Fuel economy is more about rising style.

@@thejunkman ok cool, I thought I saw a Mile-Hi license plate in your workspace and figured it was worth a shot, I'm currently fighting with a bank of carbs off of a 75 CB550 and am getting frustrated lol
@thejunkman5 жыл бұрын
The service manual is your friend, but just as important is to bench sync them and make sure each carb is set the same and gaskets are sealing. It is rare, but wear/slop in the throttle shafts can cause enough of a vacuum leak to alter the jetting and operation in the carb that has the problem.
@daviddonaldson70608 жыл бұрын
So primarily check the carb and spark? :)
@thejunkman8 жыл бұрын
Basically yes. Fuel spark and compression and an engine will run.
@jameshone10008 жыл бұрын
thejunkman can you make a video on how to put a new ignition mag on a engine and set timings as I restoring a old bike but it has no mag flywheel on it and I can find one so I was wondering how hard it would be to by one of them universal flywheel and magneto

I just bought a 1974” mc1 running great and was wondering if there any oem or aftermarket parts like pistons, cylinder, crank, etc... because I cannot find anything. Thanks I’m advanced
@thejunkman6 жыл бұрын
Ebay is your best bet for obsolete parts, but an OEM parts supplier like Rocky Mountain MC (one of my sponsors) www.thejunkmanadv.com/current-sponsors.html Can get you current OEM parts. The MC1 shares a lot of parts with other models so certain part numbers fit multiple models in that 80cc-100 range. There are a ton of OEM parts out there, not so much for aftermarket as they tend to only focus on models 10 years old or newer.

There’s a 1970-ish Kawasaki 650 for about $350. It’s not running and a guy got it from an old property. It looks good but I know looks can be deceiving. Do you think it’s worth the money to buy and fix up? Especially for a beginner?
@thejunkman6 жыл бұрын
It's a good price if it's a 1965-1974 W1 or W2 or W3 but I wouldn't consider these bikes good for a beginner to restore because of parts availability. If its a modern W650 from 1999-2007 which looks like an early 70s bike its still a good deal and a better project for a beginner.
@jefferybrown80626 жыл бұрын
thejunkman thanks. I’m asking him now to find the model date. I was planning on getting this bike, a 1982 gl500, and a 1978 cm400. The last two are running and are about $700-850. Decisions decisions.

Enjoyed your video, greatly appreciated. I used to ride 2 stroke Susuki as a kid, little MX racing, loved it. I have a 2005 125 Yamaha TTR-L. I ran gas outta the carb for winter, and why are 4 strokes so hard to start for some reason? I can't get it started so far , I've had back, leg problem now so cant ride like I want to. Soon I hope. But every yr, it seems to be hard to start after winter. I'm not great at rebuilding carbs. Was better at 14 at it than now. I smelled the oil, smelled like gas in it. Fuel cock needs replacing I know cuz cant hardly turn it on/off. Still looks as new the day I bought it. New in 06, put in shop once. Son's 225 starts easily. I'm wanting a 2 stroke again. Going to check spark, change oil. Thank u very much, Awesome learning again!😷
