No matter the source of financing, you still have control at the dealership. Never forget that. And this is because you should keep negotiations (including price, features, warranties, etc.) separate from financing/payment. When you set foot on a lot, NEVER discuss financing. Your goal is to purchase the car you want for the least amount possible. That's it! Super simple. Get as below MSRP/Invoice as you can get. Also, know what to negotiate on. Don't waste time fussing over destination charges etc. Focus on base price and features. Don't be afraid to walk away or even take quotes from place to place. Pit them against each other. Leave your contact info with the sales associates and I PROMISE they'll be calling YOU. lol Then AFTER you're satisfied with pricing THEN you use the tips in this video (which are very good btw 😊).
@Kimillions
@Kimillions 3 жыл бұрын
Just remember not to discuss "how much are you looking to spend today, what's your credit like, will you be financing with us, do you have a trade-in, etc." UNTIL AFTER you've decided on a vehicle and are satisfied with the price. Because if not, they will most definitely sell it for the max of your budget, if that makes sense. No matter what, don't be intimidated. Remember they're the ones with a lot full of cars that they desperately need to get rid of by a certain time. THEY NEED YOU. 😉

The hard inquiries, done in a short period of time (period of a week or so usually) will likely consolidate into one single inquiry as you are only looking for one line of credit. However it may take a long time for that to occur so it’s good to keep in mind each hard inquiry will cost you 2-7 points.. if you’re going to a dealership ask specifically for a soft pull FIRST.. most have ways to make that happen.

Get a loan thru a credit union. Then you know what your interest rate is upfront. A dealer will never tell you what your interest rate from the bank is because they usually tack on 1-2% for themselves as they get a bonus from the bank for using them.
@Siikesz
@Siikesz 3 жыл бұрын
False, we don’t know what interest rate you’ll get you know BALL PARK range but we don’t get you approved on a vehicle till we get you in finance. We don’t sell money we sell cars. You’ll get whatever interest rate your score can qualify you for and if you go to a well established dealership/ corporation like Larry h Miller ( sorry east coast ) than you know they got your best interest in mind. It’s not the 70s anymore you aren’t paying the dealership directly for monthly payments. We don’t make money on new cars we make money on used cars, dealerships don’t get a cut out of your full financing amount they get cuts from front end profit example used car traded in for 15 we sell for 19 we make 4K profit. Your interest is what the bank makes not dealerships

That is absolutely true. I’ve sold cars for 6 years. You have a buy rate which is what the bank gives you. Then the dealer will add 1-2 points on the rate. However a lot of times you can get better rates through a. Dealer because they have more power with the bank than an individual ever will.

Cars salesmen get word of advise from managers who were financial directors before becoming a manager. They been doing it for 10+ years they know what you’ll qualify for by looking at your debt to income ratio and score. Time to wake up little Timmy your low 600 ain’t enough for a 30-40k car unless you got 5k or more down payment. It’s a risk factor to banks dealerships don’t give a shit they want to sell you a car but it’s the banks you say what you can get and these car salesmen go off the word of advice of what to show you the customer based around your credit and debt to income

Good point. It actually has already had lots of depreciation, but the first owner paid it for you, so you get a lot more value for your money in a used car. Great Advice. She is spot on. Only thing I'll add is never tell the dealership how much your approved for. It's none of their business. Also you can had on upgrades & accessories to your vehicle and they can roll it all into your loan. Example. If you're pre-approved up to $30K. You can get car for $24K , you can add Tint, Upgrade wheels, remote start, etc. For about $3K. Now your at $27K with Taxes Title fees. You'll still be under $30K

@@ceceandthemouse Well the best thing is to know what vehicle you already want before going to the dealership & look around what other dealers are selling the vehicle for. But all you need to tell them is your budget range. Example if your approve for 30K . Just tell them you're budget range 23k-25k. Because they will try to max out the whole amount your approve for. Or let's say they have a car on the lot selling for 25K, if they know you have 30k to spend, they will try to sell you that car for 29K.
@Road2FinancialPeace
@Road2FinancialPeace 3 жыл бұрын
Most definitely agree to this. When I went I didn’t let them know I had an pre approval until I had negotiated the pricing of the vehicle I wanted. Don’t let them talk you into what you get. Instead talk them down and off their pricing.
@Road2FinancialPeace
@Road2FinancialPeace 3 жыл бұрын
Just don’t let them know you have the approval until you’ve negotiated the pricing of whatever vehicle you’re looking to purchase. Having a pre approval will give you an upper hand. Just let them know what vehicle you’re looking to purchase and negotiate it as if you have the cash for it. After you’ve come to an agreement of the pricing, then let the finance manager know you have the pre approval.

exactly you are absolutely correct. I don't know where they went but I work with others to assist with their credit and I've seen them do this over and over again. It's never ran under one hard inquiry because its pulled from multiple lenders not the same one.

My sister had something similar happen to her. The car salesman said to her "Our preferred bank for subprime auto loans will only approve loans for less than $xxx. The only vehicle on the lot that is under $xxx is this 2015 Ford compact sedan. Would you like to buy this compact sedan?" My sister wanted a small sedan anyway but she was surprised at what the salesman said. Since she was impatient to drive a different car than her present one, she said "OK Whatever. Where do I sign to seal the deal?"

You can also make the decision before you go in that you're not going to drive home that day with a car. Find the one you want, negotiate on the price, and take a day to think it over. "Sleep on it", as they say. That will help prevent making an impulse decision. A possible side benefit is that once you leave, the dealer may call you with a better price because they're convinced you'll buy from someone else within 72 hours. There is power in walking away.

If you get Pre approved from your bank, you know the amount that’s max for you to buy. Aren’t them already telling you what kind of car you can get? It’s them same thing. Your own bank doesn’t always give you the interest rate but they do for the most part. Most people are in la la land when shopping for a car. So unrealistic. I want to buy a Camry, I love the Leather, Navigation and Sun Roof as well and they are a must to have. Here’s the kicker, I only have $1000 to put down, if less even better. My budget is $250 per month. What in the world are you thinking????? Do the math your self, 250x60 months or even 250x72 months, that’s even close to $30000 car that you so want with the must have options. So the dealer will put you in your place giving the option that you have according to your budget. Then you get approved for the car that you can afford. Yes they will send to various banks and you will have hard inquiries but that’s your fault for not having a good credit so they have to find a bank that will give the best interest rate for you. GAP insurance??? Good to have but not a must so you can decline it. So you leave with the car that you can afford or you’ll leave with a car that’s over your budget but that’s because you really really wanted that particular car. So got pre approved for $20000 instead of $30000??? Guess what, say good buy to a loaded Camry and you’ll end up in a Corolla unless you put money out of your pocket. Remember, the pre approved amount is even with tax, MV and fees all included. So technically you can get a Corolla no more than $17000 more or less. Let’s resume all this in this particular scenario of a new car Camry vs Corolla considering your credit, income, budget and options, you get pre approved from your own bank, they are already telling you what you can get, even though you we’re dreaming about a Camry. Don’t get pre approved and go to a dealer and find out that you can get approved for a Camry but a higher payment or you can get a Corolla within your budget as well. If you get a pre approval, you’re buying the car in cash at the dealer and you may loose some incentives. If not and you finance with the dealer, you can get more incentives depending on the program on that particular time that you’re purchasing the car. Incentives varies time to time so take the advantage when it’s available and if you qualify. You will save a lot time if you can get pre approval first because you’re bank will tell what you can get (money wise). Approved for $20000? So start looking for only less than $18000 cars no matter what brand. If you pick a Toyota like in this scenario, Corolla or another cheaper vehicle. Bye bye Camry. If you’re pre approved for $30000, then any car below $27000 more or less. Get the picture right? If you have a great credit with great history and assuming you had financed or leased a car before under your name, including you being a Co-signer to someone else, you can get the special APR like 0%, 0.9%, 1.9%, 2.9% or 3.9% whatever is available for the vehicle you’re trying to purchase with no problem and submitted to ONE bank only and not multiple banks. You don’t get more power or control by getting pre approval. You save a lot time and that’s it because you already know you can not get something more expensive. Kinda “limited”. Tips for GAP insurance, the higher the loan amount you have, the better GAP insurance will be good in case of a total loss. If the amount is very low, don’t even bother thinking about it. And by the way, GAP is not expensive.

@Lea J, not sure why I can’t see your response on the comments but I read in my email so hopefully you’ll come back to read this or get a notification. Sales people are trained and “forced” to call customers to get into the doors and to make a final sale. Long story short, don’t hate on them, it’s just part of the life of the life of a car sales people and they hate to do it too. Trust me. Right now is hard to get what you want, you really get what’s available out there considering this pandemic that caused the shortage of the chips. Tip? If you leased a car, that means you’ll need a car regardless since you need to return it so no choice but getting what’s out there. Now if you have the luxury of not having to lease another one and just stay with out a car for a long time, then wait until this industry stabilizes a little. I’ve always leased my cars in NJ and now here in MD, you have to pay the tax on the full amount of the vehicle that I’ll be leasing instead of paying taxes only on the 3 yrs that I’ll using the car
@davidhwang4839
@davidhwang4839 3 жыл бұрын
So not worth it to Lease here in MD. I ended up buying since I have to pay the full tax amount on it. Now I can wait until this craziness in over. Other option for you would be to buy your own Leased car. Financially speaking, not the best idea since you would be paying all the fees and tax again but worth it if you’re over mileage and has lot’s of damage on it. Worth it because you wouldn’t be paying to the bank all that since your keep in it. Keep in mind, financing the car with the dealer is different than financing with your bank. Incentives are different, most of the times is better to do with your own bank when there’s not much incentives from the Brand itself. If there’s lot’s of rebates or special APR on it, most likely better with the dealer. Again most likely. To be 100% sure, gotta do your homework when buying a car. Hopefully this helps.

Worst thing people can do is demand a discount on a used car, without any type of pre-approved loan. They may have gotten a discount on a new car before so they think it’s the same for used cars. But it really depends on the dealership. Some will say that their used cars are already priced based on the car fax.

Beyond pissed is an understatement. I went to one dealership.This was years ago. I said never again will I get got like that. I also didn't get the car I wanted. They showed me one car and I signed papers to go outside to a completely different car. They said I didn't qualify. Horrible experience. Great information.

So since you already have your preapproval, yes you’d go to the dealership of your choice. Don’t tell them you have a pre approval. Just go and look at the car you’re interested in buying and then negotiate the pricing. Don’t let them know how much your approval is for because they will then try to get that full amount. After you’ve negotiated the pricing, you can then let them know you have a pre approval check. If they don’t want to negotiate, let them know you’ll be going else where. We’re in a pandemic so I’m pretty sure they’ll negotiate. I was able to get $5,000 off a new car by doing this method. Hope this helps.
