Here's a list of common charges. Some of which are gotchas. How to review on the final bill of sale when buying a new or used car. Remember, car dealers, are SNEAKY. They work numbers every day, you don't. In this video, I show you how to spot, and negotiate out of these fees that I think are scams.

Bro. KILLLLLLLLED it today at the dealer. He about lost his mind when we said we arent paying the doc fee. We had been there hours. He said there was "no way...every dealer has a doc fee...." I said it's a nothing fee, take it off or we leave. He snatched the paper off the table and we got up and drove way. He called within 2 minutes....we went back and he said we would split it. I said no we wont. And he took it off. He was big mad

Weeeell it just speaks volumes on his lack of integrity. Man is figuratively pooping where he eats! For him to say that his dealership works in tip top conditioning and they are not ripping off anyone is BS! The chair blocking the nitrogen machine is a joke to say they don't use it, give me break! His $300 document fee IS a ripoff and if you stand your ground as a consumer, you should walk out of the dealership WITHOUT that fee on your paperwork! I am surprised he didn't get fired for doing this video while he was working! He is double dipping on pay (YTube pay and dealer pay) and again, his lack of integrity makes him a sleazeball salesman like they all are!

@@Mr_T_Abe I agree that I don't think he is a bad guy, but the fact that they have a nitrogen machine in the corner means that they were at one time promoting the nitrogen filled tires. Why would they go though the trouble and expense to buy that machine otherwise? I would even suspect that most dealers that upcharge for nitrogen filled tires use nothing but regular air and just add the green valve stem caps.

Dude. Thanks. My son is serving on active duty in the Army and is wanting to purchase a new vehicle. Your tips have saved him and I from making a $10k dollar mistake. The local dealership that “caters to active duty soldiers” added a $5k fee to the msrp because of a “shortage of inventory”, another $1800 fee for dealer prep, another $800 for processing fee, $899 for “ceramic coating”, $999 for nitrogen filled tires. All of this while advertising on Car Gurus for 10k below MSRP with manufacturer rebates. Once the buyers order was presented, I began to ask questions about each fee and what that fee was for. This sent both the sales person and his manager into a scramble. The dealership refused to negotiation beyond removing the nitrogen and the ceramic coating. I then presented them with the Car Gurus snapshot that even showed them the exact vin number for the truck we wanted to purchase to justify what my requests were to remove the additional fees. Needless to say we walked away from the deal. Dealerships are on every corner in towns surrounding our military bases and it’s sad to feel that they are almost bordering on predatory lending to our service men and women. So I wanted to say thank you for the content you provide that allowed me to know when to walk away. Greatly appreciate what you’re doing.

@@davehill5806 Yes, we do actually. It goes into our front end gross, and we get a percentage of that. Typically 20% of the total front end gross. I'm a car salesman myself, and don't enjoy explaining fees to people, but sometimes thats how we eat. Getting paid on a flat (car with no gross) doesnt pay much and when you work solely on commission, it starts to hurt. Especially during the slow times of the year. Ive heard stories of back in the day before the advent of the internet of people making over 400k-500k a year selling cars, in the 80s! Now the typical salesman makes about 60k a year, and the bulk of that is during the summer. Maybe 100k+ if they are in a busy store and have lots of clientel. Tbh I'm shocked this guy didnt lose his job. Maybe his owners didnt see it yet 😂

I totally disagree with you on the dealer processing fee! I was buying a used F150 and the dealer wanted $200 "documentation fee" explaining that it paid for the girls in the office to process the paperwork. I asked how many cars per month this dealer typically sells and the reply was 200-225. I asked him who makes $45,000 a month in the back office? (225 x $200). I got it reduced, but they refused to eliminate it. I believe "dealer processing fees" or "doc fees" are a complete rip off!

If you mean @ 12:06, that’s like making sure to meet manufacturer standards. So it’s like a normal survey you take where you give your opinion on things. They want to make sure they’re meeting the standards of the car makers and such so they have positive responses/scores on their surveys, which is good for their reputation and thus makes more money. If something else you were referring to, I don’t know where in the video you mean. :)

I always ask to take it for a solo test drive, and the first thing I do is take it to the local mechanic and ask them to do a through top to bottom, inside and out check (even if I have to pay the mechanic yo do it) and have them give me an itemized list (on paper) of what's wrong with it, that way I know if I want to deal with that issue (or those issues) and it helps me look up an appropriate value of what the vehicle is really worth... for example, my little brother was looking at a car we found what he wanted, took it for a solo drive and took it to the mechanic, we found out it had been in an accident on the passenger side, around the back door, the frame was bent even though the outside of the car looked fine, we took the car back and told them it wasn't what we were looking for (since it really wasn't after finding that out), we also paid the mechanic $50 for looking at it because we told them we were planing to buy it if it was worth it, and apparently the mechanic normally charges $150 for the check we had done, but because we were only checking to see if it was worth buying it, the mechanic gave us a discount (please note, not all shops will give a discount for that)

Except the fact that new cars are harder and harder to get. Often you can go somewhere else, but have to compromise on color or trim or something else. We sell at msrp, and do not have a bunch of hidden fees, but if someone comes in on a new car and doesn’t want to pay the price of the car, we may move just a bit, but for the most part it’s “see ya later”.! Someone else will buy it. And there are ways around the survey too. A lot of the tips either aren’t true anymore or never were. Especially not in smaller areas

I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me, retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45

@johnnymoretti

@@AdrianA-yo8jd Yes. Do it in an email to the dealer so you can document that you did it within the 3 day cooling off period. And copy yourself. They will likely not return your money directly to you, but take it off the principal of the loan if it was financed. Be prepared for them to talk you into keeping it. They must, if you document it in an email, cancel it if you requested to cancel. And also contact the company that sponsors the theft protection to notify them, too. If there's a website, go there and make the request. Do it soon! BTW, how much did you pay?

theres only ONE WAY to buy a car. Out the door price! You give them an out the door offer. They take it or you walk. They can put numbers on any line on paper and call them whatever they want! It was opposite for me. They told me I can get a 6.9% through their lender. I was approved by my bank for 7.9%. So I took their offer. Approximately 10 days later, they said I was denied for 6.9% and the best they could get me was 10.9%. At that point, the offer from my bank expired. So I told them that won't fly since it upped my monthly by appx $85. So the only option was to return the vehicle, where they tried charging me a "restocking fee" of some sort of $900+. I eventually got it waived after giving them hell, but I'll never do business with them again.

Hi Linda the main difference is a credit unions have lower interest rates compared to commercial banks because they are not for profit organizations. Other than low loan interest rates (auto, personal, mortgages) a credit union operates pretty much like a commercial bank. Go to a credit union if you are looking for a loan but for your regular banking needs definitely go commercial because they are more customer service friendly.

Hey man, I really appreciate this video. It was extremely helpful as I was a first-time car buyer. I just bought a car at a Toyota Dealership two weeks ago and they tried to sell me everything that you mentioned in this video. I told them exactly what you said. They then walked me over to a car and tried to show me "See this car has tint, it has this door handle protection, and the nitrogen aired tires which isn't free for the dealership. This is stuff our customers usually want so we put it on every car and therefore that's what those fees are." I respectfully told them "I truly believe that should be included with the cost of the car, and therefore I won't be able to make a deal unless those fees are taken off." He then said "Well let me go talk with the owner of the dealership and see if I can do that." He came back within 5 minutes and said "You're lucky, we got them taken off for you." This video seriously saved me 4,000 dollars off these crazy bogus fees! Yes seriously, FOUR THOUSAND! I could tell by the look on their faces that they weren't happy with it, but I guess that's how I know I truly got the best deal I could've gotten. So thank you so very much for this video!

@@lieslwise3294 absolutely! Aside from collectors, used cars don’t go up in value and they have gone through the roof in the last year. Vehicles will be fully stocked in 1 year which will push both new and used prices down considerably. Some people are paying 10-15k over msrp, all those dollars will be smoke 💨. You shouldn’t even consider buying in today’s market. More reason below 1. Stimulus checks are going towards cars, those will be gone in 6-12 months 2. Pent up travel demand will get back to normal, decreased need for new rides 3. Rental cars will be used regularly providing the used market with a good flow of rental cars 4. Car manufacturers have ramped up and won’t stop again unless another pandemic happens 5. Don’t be in a hurry to waste money on a depreciating hunk of junk. 6. So let’s say based on the scenario you showed us is legit. My trade in VS the negotiated price with all the snake oil taken out leaves me with a 3500 -4000 balance. Now I’ve not told them whether I’m gonna finance or pay cash no matter how many times they’ve asked me. Instead of financing let’s say 4000 can I use my visa or AMEX to pay that balance as if I were giving them 4000 cash. Perhaps I get some points or some card benefits from purchases and that how I wanna pay and walk out with the keys. Also if there’s no balance then there’s no reason to run my credit correct because even though I’m in the finance office and I’ve now said I’m paying off the balance after all number have been agreed to by both parties.

Buyers don't pay taxes, unless you're the retailer which is the dealer/bank or you're a reseller for profit. There are no loans, they're all bonds aka insurance contracts on your property to force payment for driving the States car. You're a donor giving the dealer/bank gift payments because the State Treasury 100% already paid for that car in 72 hours via your promise to repay.

Don't go by yourself. Unfortunately, and it's sad that I even have to say this, it's better if you go with a man. Also, don't accept the first offer. They will always lower the price for you. Just have them give you numbers and say you'll consider it, that you have a couple of other options to look at and then they'll call you and give you a better price. Another trick is, have someone drive you there. Don't have them look at your car. I got more for my car than it was worth by doing an online appraisal. Had I taken it to the dealer they would've given me nothing.

My wife and I are going to attempt to trade her car in next week. I'm glad you brought up NADA. I completely forgot about them. I was going to ask a lower price for our car, but since you brought up the NADA, I valued our car on there and KBB. I'm averaging the average amount for the NADA, and the low end amount for KBB, and that's what I'm asking for our car. Given how much I've seen them priced on the internet at other dealers, I don't think what I'm asking is too much. The dealer we're going to, with a little cosmetic work, will make a nice profit on it. Something else I wanted to add, is I bought a truck in 2018. The price was $19795. I asked the salesperson if they could come down on their price. He went into this whole schpeal that "Well, we've had people come in from New York and Utah to buy our vehicles because of the prices because we have the lowest prices. We're confident this is the price." I pulled out my cell phone and responded "I screenshot this truck last night at another dealership about 30 miles away. It has less miles than yours for a lower price. If you can't come close to it, I'll drive over to that dealership, and buy that truck today for that price." They went from $19795 to $17500. Knowledge is power.
