I got home with the ex9240 (major picture and lumen upgrade from our mars nebula pro) I of course assumed the damn L/R rca would go out to my sound bar. Even some if the audio settings imply this would work. I have been dicking with it for over an hour trying every combination of settings, cables. M Stephens my fire stick is plugged into "hdmi in" on the converter box then on the opposite side in the hdmi out I plugged in an HDMI wire and connected it to the Projector hdmi port. For sound I attached an audio wite (red and white plugs) the the back of my sound bar and boom!!! that was it !

Thanks for the video. I had my projector for 6 years and always had to connect a cable box to a receiver to get it to have sound. I cancelled cable and use Chromecast now. I stream everything from my phone now. Like most people. I use KZbin TV. So I am not using the projector at all cause I couldn't figure out a easier way to get sound out of it. I will be ordering this device tonight. Hope it works out just in time for the NFL Playoffs.

Thank for uploading this video, really helped me out. I now have sound on external speakers however there is an audio delay between the projector and the speaker, it's not an issue when watching documentaries but it is for movies and sports. Tried two different model of Hdmi audio splitter, both display the same niggle, audio latency, that is the lip sync is noticeably out by a good few milliseconds, this spoils content, films etc with visible facial lip movement, sports etc with a remote commentary not a problem as it is not noticeable but regular close up oration spoils the viewing, to be fair I cannot see a way around this without disassembling the projector and doing a modification to the output of the DAC. Epson do not seem interested.

This is a good question. I am not sure but my guess is that the coverters only job is to extract audio and has nothing to do with changing the resolution size.

Eduardo Torres I would think so as well. I picked up a decent 6x2 hdmi matrix with analog audio out from amazon but it’s doa. I’ve Been looking at some of the crestron products because they are meant for commercial use and are much better quality and design. I’m guessing your projector is 720p or 1080p. I would use an av receiver but most don’t have analog outs if I wanna use another amp and they all don’t support 1920x1200.

Receivers are also another great output source for sound however they can cost between $200-450 for a decent brand receiver. This converter is a low cost solution. Thanks for the additional tip.

For PS you can use hdmi to hdmi and then an amp to connect with PS. For Fire Stick or Chromecast you can connect amp or home theatre with bluetooth. I am using the same projector with Apple Tv and it is connected with Sony D100 using Toslink Spdif to 3.5mm. As my speaker doesn't have spdif.

Without the splitter and HDMI, I feed the audio from a headphone jack to a few portable speakers and it is loud. However when I feed it through the HDMI splitter and then to the portable speakers, it barely gets louder than a whisper with all the speakers jacked to the highest setting. There is also a slightly noticable half second delay.

@@carlkeethan3510 Take the converter and plug the HDMI end into the Cable Modem box,, then get 2 RCA cables with RCA plugs on one end and whatever you need on the other. Plug the RCA plugs (red and white) into the Converter box and then plug the other end (in my case it was a 1/4" plug) into your speaker. Then get a 2nd HDMI cable and plug one end into the converter output and the other end into the Projector/TV. Viola, its done, the converter box splits the HDMI signal into Video and Audio... Soundbar may use an optical connector so you will need something like RCA to Optical.

Epson really dropped the ball. I want to use my Chromecast, it works and all but the only audio output I get is from speakers on the projector and they are terrible. There's literally a 3.5 mm that says audio on my projector, but if I plug a speaker into it it doesn't do anything and there is no options in any menu for selecting audio output.

Be aware that this solution (using SPDIF) will only supply PCM 2Channel, LPCM 5.1, Dolby 2.0, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1 audio. It cannot support Atmos, DTS Master, or Dolby TrueHD. To the best of my knowledge it will also not support any 7.1 channel audio formats. Only 5.1 or lower. If you use the Red/White RCA, you're stuck with Dolby ProLogic II at best, but more likely just plain old stereo.

This is really funny cause we have bought the EXACT same HDMI Converter, it kinda works as intendet BUT the sound cuts out as soon as it gets too quiet. Thus in every quiet passage the sound completely cuts out so it's rather choppy. Also the sound is really muddy somehow. I wonder if a pricier option works better. We don"t have the same projector but some other Epson one. Don't really know why it's cutting the sound off in quiet passages but no volume configuration whatsoever fixes it. Nonetheless I'm baffled that there's no audio output. I mean they put in HDMI with audio support so they had to figure that some source would be audio AND video through HDMI. You really want me use those shitty built in speakers Epson?! Apparently it works fine for you ​ @Eduardo Torres ?

My converter doesn’t do that. Maybe try a different brand with good reviews. Also many input devices now support Blue Tooth so that’s another option for sound.

@@EddieTee321 Cheers. Weird though. Thought about BT as well but then I had to get 2 BT transmitters for each, the projector and the amplifier. Or am I missing something?

@@fargoththemoonsugarmaniac the Google fire stick and Apple TV units have a built-in Bluetooth source. All you need is a Bluetooth device speaker.

@@EddieTee321 You mean Amazon Fire TV? I see. Although I really don't want to buy and thus support either any more big tech like Amazon or Apple stuff, this could definitely be an option. Maybe there's something like a Chromecast in Google's Ecosystem with built in BT. Thanks for the heads up man!
