Hi. Can you offer me any advice. I have mild arthritis in my hips and I have had back pain 24-7 for about 5 years. I have seen a consultant who said because I used to do a lot of weights in the gym years ago then I stopped over night, my muscles have like seized up and are completely rock solid and I have limited movement in my upper thoracic. I can barely twist from side to side. I have started back on the weights to see if that helps. Any advice please as I would like to get back to running too. Thank you.

Hi there I was jogging since January and average doing 5K each session let’s say 3 times a week. I’ve got severe lower back pain (from lifting 30 Kgs cases I believe that caused my pain) been in naproxen for 2 weeks the acute pain was gone during the first 48 hrs.. I have been walking and eventually done jog/walk for 1 min or 2 but my lower back afterwards feels very sore . What can I do ? I was doing really well and now just can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel

Great video... ruptured disc could not walk or stand so painful, level 10 pain, had microdiscetomy and re reptured..had fusion L45 pain level 1.... now... , now having L5/S1 issues, when I try and run it hurts. Wondering if you recommend running again if I have another fusion at the lower disc? Been pretty much just walking for rehab. Anytime I do more than walk or sit I am in bad pain later. Trying to avoid surgery but doing anything makes it hurt. MRI says annual tears in the dics... I guess I will wait as long as I can to see if it heals or gets worse before surgery.

I had a bulging disc from running 15 years ago. It still hasn't healed! If I run, it comes straight back..... I am determined to run though.

I'm 70 yrs old, and never got lower back pain from running. Now that I'm older, I figured my muscles were not as flexible ? I get lower back pain for 1-2 days after a run, ( inflamed), then the pain subsides a lot. All these guys with easy solutions on here, I question strongly ? The pain is on both sides of the spinal column, from the top of buttocks, to mid back area. You sound pretty realistic, but you don't really give any kind of exercises to stop the pain ? I should also add that I also do 40 - 60 situps 3 times a week, and 40 - 50 pushups, so generally my muscles are in good shape -- "except this back pain" , which also makes those muscles "very" weak, for a couple days, I suppose because of inflamation ?? Advice ??

OK, so if you're doing that many sit-ups and push-up, one can assume your core is strong and it is not a lack of strength causing it. In which case you may have a few things you want to check: 1. Is your lower back + glutes overly tight? In which case glute and lumbar flexion and rotation stretching may help (but not done when back is already painful as aggressive stretching of inflamed structure usually just irritates it further). 2. What about your running gait? Are you overstriding and landing on your heel placed far out in front of you? In which case you may benefit from trying to rather hit the ground closer to directly under you. 3. Do you perhaps need more cushioned running shoes? Hokas can be quite good if you need more cushioning but I would address the first 2 factors above first. If you want more specific advice for this, it is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. I fell completely FLAT on my back in my basement. The pain was horrendous. Hospital put me on Tylenol 3. Saw my own Dr , had XRay and the result was my spine was injured on # 12. I don’t know what that means. My Dr put me on Codine. It was great, I felt great, and didn’t have a care in the world. My Girls said I was Drunk. I suffer every day. Now I do take Tylenol 3. Can you please give me some help. I can’t afford Physio. I’m an older Senior.

It is really not a good idea to get random advice for this off the internet. You will benefit most from seeing a physio in person who can assess you and make sure the advice they provide is right for you. The advice has to be tailored to your specific situation.
