Great Advice! For me personally I started working in video production, animation and special effects as a hobby. Nobody was paying me to spend hours and hours to do it, I just enjoyed creating a visually pleasing piece and watching the reactions of those who watched it back. When I started doing it as freelance work I was getting paid very little, but I kept putting as much time and effort into it as I could, I didn't count the cost, I just made it as awesome as my abilities at that time would allow me, so I was constantly doing more than what I was being paid for adding as much value to the content as possible. Eventually people take notice, companies take notice and it's up to you to grow your business mindset, find out what your market value is, what your competitors are charging, the rent cost of your kit, etc, and start to negotiate your way up higher. We all have to make a living at the end of the day, but what I have found is that by working hard on yourself and your skills and having a passion for what you do eventually those bigger clients will come to you... Success is not something you pursue... it's something you attract, by the person you become.. (JR)

I absolutely stumbled into creating videos three weeks ago and I love it. For me it's tough because I am self teaching myself. I've always been a good artist, and what I've found (While creating these videos) is that, my artistic background shines through. Thank you for making this video...it really helped me more than you'll ever know.

Just stumbled across your channel and I love all of your advice! I'm moving to a city 4 hours away from my hometown and to keep my clients I am investing in a good friend to help me stay in business when I'm gone. So I'm pretty much making him part of my company and it's my first time doing something like that and your advice is exceptional!

Really amazing points here Simeon. Specially towards the end. Small projects = small clients. Would love to see a video about budgets and the conversation you have with the client as its such a touchy subject at times. The whole under promise over deliver thing etc..

JAYFUL its a mental ceiling. You can punch through. But remember, you can’t get different results unless you do something differently. Start by giving clients 3 options, put the lowest option at $999, the next at $1475 and the next at $2100. A large portion should take the $1475 version. - also look create case studies that show value way beyond $1000

Hello Simeon, most of what you have said helped me in understanding of taking next steps, but I'd really appreciate if you could spend some more time in explain the ideas to approach the big clients with the confidence that they wont outright reject me knowing that they have better options than me. The only way I can click I believe if I offer best service with cheaper value, however, I really dont know or shall I say lack the confidence in approaching the clients in the first place.. What should I say when I first speak to them? To whom should I ask to speak to me? What if my emails are not answered, direct calls would be ok? I know these are lengthy questions, apologize in advance.

Hey Simenon, I've recently started a production company, I started it with a partner who over time just wasn't putting in near as much work as I was and as a result of me voicing my frustrations, he has gone his own way, ( without any notice) I was the one doing handling all the clients and all the creative ideas, he just helped with editing and shooting, so it's really me the clients look to in order to carry out the job, but I just wanted some advice one how I should go about looking for employes as I really need an editor now and someone who is as passionate as me and as hungry and honest

Perhaps the editor felt he wasn't valued, like u said, "he just shoot and edit which is the hardest part" we might have to look inwardly.

Thank you for such a great advice Simeon. I am a recent graduate and i want to start my own production house, targeting weddings, corporate events, ads, short films and gradually as the business grows i wanna do documentries and movies. I would like to know what pricing strategy should one adopt initially so that clients find my services reasonable and i can also manage my team efficiently.

Great thoughts, Simeon. Having just set up my production company this year, I’m trying to work up a portfolio of projects (small budget or non-funded) to show the kind of work I can do. Would you suggest finding companies and offering to make content for them, or would you suggest making content without attaching a brand that conveys the concept and feel of what you want?

Love your ideas Simeon...well worded thoughts and sounds straight from the heart with experience...just a piece of thought from my end...the very fact that you make these you tube videos implicate that you want a larger network...then why don't we the subscribers and you and your team get to meet each other face-to -face at some point soon. I don't know how and where but then if we have the interest, anything is possible over a discussion...what do you think?

The real ques for me is, How the hell do I get ANY client? I've been business networking, I've created those projects that you said I should create; I've got testimonials from small business persons for whom I did PRO BONO work. And I've got more people asking me to do pro bono stuff. So how do I convince these people, whom I KNOW HAVE A BUDGET FOR MARKETING and yet only want me to do pro bono stuff for them, to pay me $10 in gas money? I'm literally now asking for $10 in gas money, and they still won't give me cash! And yet I can show them video after video of stuff I've done.

Ramon Bannister without knowing more about your situation, my guess is that you are underselling yourself from the sounds of it. It's why a lot of professionals will say that it's easier to sell a $1000 video than a $100 video. People look at the low asking price and it creates a perceived lower quality.
