I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on my journey toward U.S. citizenship. It's amazing how the right guidance can make such a difference. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the process, but then I came across someone who really knew their stuff. Their expertise in navigating the complexities of immigration was truly impressive.

What's a realistic timeline from the moment you get PR to when you actually become a citizen? Is it really 3 years? Or much longer?
@perfectsid333
@perfectsid333 2 жыл бұрын
Much longer. But depends on your luck. Things like policy shift, backlogs, macroeconomic factors such as an influx of refugees cause bunch of delays.
@atomixfang

add the pandemic backlog too.

If you don’t leave Canada from the day you get PR and apply when you reach 1095 days(days you resided in Canada legally before you received PR may count as 1/2 days up to a certain amount of days), your application package is flawless, if you don’t need to provide fingerprints or take an interview, it can take as little as 3,5 years. But it can be much longer as luck plays a part in the length of the processing time of you application. Mine took 12 months(366 days) but people applying this year are processed faster, while 2020 applications were backlogged for a very long time(20-24 months).

Hi I came to canada 3 years ago and been here for 3 years does that mean I can apply? I’m really confused with this 3 out of 5 years what does that mean? If anyone can answer would greatly appreciated
@drwd3106
@drwd3106 3 жыл бұрын
No you need to get the Canadian PR first. Pr is valid for 5 years. So you need to live in Canada for 3 years out of 5 years to apply for citizenship..
@deeremeyer1749
@deeremeyer1749 2 жыл бұрын
@@drwd3106 And that's 3 years as a "PR" which you're not unless you spend at least 60% of every "year" of 5 years in Canada OR do not leave Canada for at least at least 3 years running. "Year" is also a relative term. Years are made up of 12 months. 5 years is 60 months. 3 years is 36 months. For a month to "count" it has to be 50% of the days in THAT month "plus one". Anything short of that "doesn't count". It's no different than pension/retirement plans that provide benefits after becoming "vested" and reaching a certain "retirement age" and/or "years of service". "Calendar years" and "fiscal years" are different things as are "hiring dates" and "employment dates". And "5 years" or "20 years" or "30 years" breaks down to 60, 240 or 360 months of employment. Take a "leave of absence" and in excess of "one month" - typically defined as "30 consecutive days" and you lose that month. Take those 30 consecutive days "over" during two "calendar months" and fail to work 50% plus one day of either or both and you lose both months. "2 weeks plus one day" of vacation time taken "all at once" can "cost" a month - or - two of "employment". Lots of people put in X "years of service" before "taking retirement" on a certain "anniversary" of their "hiring" or "employment" without reading the "fine print" of their employment contract and end up "ineligible" for "full retirement" because they took "time off" during employment that left them "short" of "12X" months of the requirement for "full retirement'. "3 years as a PR" has to follow whatever requirement exists to be a "carded" PR and becoming a "carded" PR has its own requirements that have their own requirements etc etc etc. Anybody with no "papers" is a minimum of "5 years" from being "eligible" to APPLY for "citizenship". An APPLICATION must be "correctly submitted" to be "reviewed" and correctly completed to be "approved" and the applicant must THEN prove PROOF he/she met/meets all requirements to be "eligible" for citizenship "testing". A "language proficiency" must be "oral" and is subjective. Meaning an "interview process" exists. Meaning it's 100% the opinion of an "immgration official" or "committee" thereof - speaking THEIR "birth language" - whether or not an applicant is "proficient" in a "2nd language". "Proficiency" also requires LITERACY and that too is "subjective" even and ESPECIALLY on "multiple-choice" and "true-false" tests. "Nuance" and "phrasing" and "wording" play a huge role in "reading comprehension" and "date formats" and "naming customs" and "slang" can make a difference in whether a "choice" is "right" AND "correct" AND whether a "statement of fact" is "true or false". "Multiple choice" can also be "choose all that apply" or "rank in order of importance" questions with no "right answer" or ALL "wrong answers". The "mental state" and "institutionalization" and "world views" and "cultural bias" and "patriotism' and "integrity" and "ethics" and all the "bias" those "intangibles" create in human being "immigration officials" and whether they view their job as a "mission" or "duty" or "role" or "calling" or just a "means to an end" and "steady paycheck" affect whether they see their "work" as being "hosts" or "security guards" in their "homeland". "Quotas" also determine "who gets in" and "who stays" and "who goes" and ultimately "guests" must get to the "front door" first. "Legally".
@deeremeyer1749
@deeremeyer1749 2 жыл бұрын
@@drwd3106 "Validly" live in "Canada" for "3 years" first AS a "PR". "Filing taxes". Define/explain "valid", "live", "year" and "filing taxes" in "legal terms". And verify that "you" includes "everyone" and "anyone" regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, age, social class, wealth, education, disability, political views and health. "Language proficiency" is completely subjective and requites an "interview process". Then "personal opinion" of "immigration officials" on whether not a "subject" is "proficient enough" to "pass the test". "Pass/fail" testing of "proficiency"via "oral test" is inherently biased. "You" - meaning a presumed "Canadian citizen" and/or "expert" or "authority" on "immigration policy" and "citizenship requirements" and the "application process" just to become "eligble" for "citizenship testing" - could not "pass" a "citizenship test" in your "native country" in which you were "born and raised" and PRESUME to be a "citizen" but ARE only if you have a "valid" Canadian passport or other "national ID" document(s) if that test is "oral" and in "English" and I - a "native" speaker of "American English" and "unbiased" and "objective" - and "adminster" the oral "language test" and "grade" it on a "pass/fail" basis WITH a "quota system" in place and no "openings to fill" to fill in the next "class" of "citizenship students" or "openings to fill" in a "class" but not an "English class". Or any number of "bureaucratic snafus" that prevent you from "moving forward" on the "road to citizenship" even BEFORE we get into "prejudice" and "bias" on the part of the "immigration official" - me - and whether or not you "deserve" to be a citizen or even take the "written test" or are "proficient ENOUGH" in "English" to "make the grade" and "pass" rather than "fail". If I've "tested" 10 subjects that day including you for 6 "openings" to take a "written test" and I can only "pass" 6 subjects the 6 best English "speakers" of the group for vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation and each "error" adds a "point" in a "lowest score wins" COMPETITION, the "best prepared" individuals that make the fewest "errors" are going to "win" and if 6 already have "perfect scores" or "low scores" relative to yours at any point in "testing" you "lose'. And "immigrants" that speak English as a "second language" but learned in "English class" how to "speak the language" will "outscore" the "native speakers" of a "national language" they learned "at home" and "on the street" and in "public schools" or "school districts" or "provinces" or "states" with an "official language" but no "immigrant population" of "English as a second language" families/students/teachers/administrators and no "perceived need" for a "formal education" in a subject "everybody already knows" and is "proficient" in. In "America" in the "public education system" one of the few "requirements" to "pass" every grade level and "prerequisite" subjects/classes even the most "intelligent" and "brilliant" and "ingenious" students must take every "year" of their education AND that is used as a "measuring tool" to determine whether or not a student's "education level" matches his/her "grade level" and "age group" via "standardized test' is "ENGLISH CLASS". Which is why even "illiterate" Americans would "outscore" 99% of "educated" and "eloquent' and "fluent" and "brilliant" speakers of "Commonwealth English" in an "objective" oral test of "proper English" and "interview process" in "conversational English". "Slang" is "situational" and "social" and "local" and "cultural" in "America". So is "bad grammar" and "vocabulary". Pronunciation is always "correct" in extemporaneous "speak your mind" situations where "one" does not use words one does not already "know by heart" the "proper" use, definition and vocabulary of. "Americanization" of the "globe" via "cultural exchange" and "recorded media" and "journalism" in which "bad language" may be used but "improper English" is almost "unheard of" outside of the "entertainment industry" and even "idiots" - think Forrest Gump - speak "proper English" as do "minorities" in "social situations" is "educating" more non-English speaking "peoples" and producing "American English as a 2nd language" speakers that know more "proper English" and faster than "Commonwealth citizens" and the "British education system" produce speakers of "the Queen's English" which as a "spoken language" is hideously "improper". "Immigrants" that are "people of color" from "developing nations" with no "publc education" that speak "better English" than born-and-raised "white Canadian" immigration "officials" and that criticize and correctly refuse to speak "Canadian English" because it is "improper English" and not "international English" in vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation and sounds "uneducated" compared to "American English and is horribly "provincial" are a major reason Canadian "government officials" and "polticians" and the "ruling class" make the "road to citizenship" so "straight and narrow" and "easy to follow" and "straightforward" once "you" find it but do not provide public "roadmaps' or "road signs" or "access" to it so "immigrants" are forced to "find their own way" and either "hire a guide" which requires "significant expenditure" and of course "proficiency" AND FUNCTIONAL LITERACY (reading and writing "fluentlly") in a "national language" OR wandering around lost with no "starting point" until they are lost, tired, hungry and out of money and out in the cold and forced to "turn back for home". And that just gets "you" TO the "road to citizenship". Which has "no end in sight" and is a "toll road". Canada is also shockingly "undeveloped" as a "nation" as far as "infrastructure" and "natural resources" and "economic opportunity" and "societal evolution" and still very much "colonial" at best "culturally". And 90% of it isn't "developed" at all and is "wilderness" never before seen by the "eye of man" at "ground level". much less explored, settled, civilized and populated. The only "infrastructure" outside of "popuation centers" is there to exploit "natural resources" and the "environment" and affordable "public" transportation and housing do not exist for the "economically disadvantaged" and "less fortunate" "Moving to Canada" is only possible if you are "penniless" because your pockets contain nothing but "hard currency" in "big bills" and "bank books" for your "offshore accounts"..

I want to understand people who carry a passport and say this is a Canadian citizenship card. What does Canadian citizenship look like? Isn’t it supposed to be a card that you carry in your wallet or do they only give it to those born in Canada? As for refugees and immigrants, they consider them second-class.

The only best thing about being Canadian is you don't pay double taxes if you live and earn money OUTSIDE Canada. No such luck for us Americans. Get the Canuck passport and move to a tax advantaged country. Puerto Rico in the USA has a special waiver of Federal Income tax if you live there 183 days a year. Monaco is tax free, period.
