when you started and held up 3 fingers, i thought you were going to say that's how many you had left... 😁 I was always afraid of chainsaws until i started using them, then i realised they were far safer than your basic circular saw i had been using for years!

The key for me, since it's a constant when I'm in the woods, is to make sure the area is cleared. I don't know how many times a wayward branch or root lunged for one of me feet when they spotted me coming, but I know all their tricks now. Match the chainsaw to your strength and the trees to cut down. Learn the parts, adjust the chain tension, get your hands on it. Watch a bunch of videos. Compare techniques. Listen to the reasoning behind a method. And show respect. The trees are probably older than you.

Be afraid, the cemeteries full of chainsaw operators, both amateur & professional. Chainsaws are the most dangerous tool , any Wally ,can purchase and not require any idea how to operate. As to wearing all the safety gear , many a worksafe /coroner investigators, have noted how the deceased had on " all the safety gear and No idea. Go do a basic cross cut course , money well spent. And don't become complacent.
