The problem with being a new comer to Tanking is the amount of pressure from the group alone, the expectations are high and knowing the mechanics of every encounter are vital. Honestly its not easy it takes time but hopefully people are less judgmental in the new expansion and learn together rather than judge the player, remember its not only tanks but there are also people moving away from DPS into healing too.

I feel like the solution to this is so simple. A solo instance with no rewards or exp where your health is buffed and enemies die very easily. Players can learn the layout of the dungeon and boss mechanics before joining public groups. It doesn’t have to be exactly this but I’m demonstrating how simple it would be to let people learn how to play before they get flamed and kicked for hours on end.

When games go from having fun to having to study a word doc on optimal routes and rotations its not longer fun. It used to just be make sure you hit your stat caps, now its do everything perfectly or losers who live and breath wow will leave after 1 mistake. I can't remember the last mmo I played where somebody didn't leave after a single wipe. For example one thing I despise about FFXIV is the expectation that you will watch a raid guide within the first day the encounter is complete, unless you are with a lot of friends that are likeminded the days of blind progression, god forbid enjoying earning the win by trial and error, just doesn't happen.

A few tips I have for new tanks is to let people know before starting a run that you are either unfamiliar with the dungeon, or new to tanking, if you say this, people will be way less judgmental, and maybe willing to help. I would also say to keep an open mind to new strategies. I’ve been tanking since WoD, and my Strats are constantly changing due to input from dps who have done the dungeon we are running with a more experienced tank and has a cheese strat for bosses and stuff. That being said though, don’t be afraid to tell the dps you are uncomfortable doing a new route or strat in a high key without learning it in a lower key first. Most dps players will tolerate a bad tank if the tank is trying to improve, they just hate bad tanks that refuse to learn new things or get better. Last but not least, just because your a tank, doesn’t mean you get to slack off and not farm out BIS gear. I see this a lot with raid tanks, they think that because they aren’t dying they’re fine to not do any extra m+ in their free time. Do not fall into this trap. Tank damage is important, taking less damage is always important. Don’t feel as if you can slack off because you aren’t competing for top dps, eventually the guild or group hits a wall because of your laziness and it breeds a lot of resentment from the dps and healers who ARE putting in the work to gear, only for a lazy tank to ruin the run for them.

Literally where have to seen tanks slacking on gear in a Guild where no one else does?

@baronvonwolfin42152 жыл бұрын
Very true.
@Dandosa12 жыл бұрын
It’s maintained it’s importance throughout shadowlands, it’s awesome to be able to make custom routes that route out to a perfect 100% if someone in your group sucks at certain mechanics of some mobs, and with shrouded, it was super nice to customize routes with how many shrouded guys you want to pull, without being over on %. It also always maintains its importance since allowing the dps of the group to know your route allows them to save cds for pulls you might do that others don’t that you need cd’s for, or wether or not to save pot for invis skip. Prideful made MDT even more important for sure, but if you’re tanking and don’t have MDT you’re starting off at a disadvantage
@raechu_012102 жыл бұрын
For me as a newbie tank in S3 it was still helpful. I played following Dratnos routes, but if I went way over count or was under count or whatever, I could look at MDT after we finished and try to work out what I pulled extra or missed pulling. It made it easier to have a practical lesson from routing mistakes rather than just having to say oh well I'll try to pay more attention next time.

I understand that I have a million things still to learn, for example: I still haven't done a raid. Some dungeons have really oppressive do or die mechanics that you just have to know to succeed.... but I'm having fun and it feels like I am succeeding. Don't be scared people! As a new tank as of Season 3, I was extremely nervous when I started. A few wobbly pops helped but that wasn’t going to last as I’d have to do it sober eventually 😅. I worked my way to KSM on my tank in S3. When I first started out, I did quests in tank spec to get a feel for the rotation, worked my way up to heroics (super nervous the first few times) and eventually I began doing M+. Believe me, once your comfortable with you class, know the routes (via practise as mentioned) the nerves go away. Having tried all 3 rolls, tanking is by far the most rewarding. You can also put in the description “new tank, learning routes” or something so the players go in knowing you’re learning. Or just go as DPS first and watch what the tank does 😂 Sha mentioned getting flamed as a tank for making a mistake but I didn’t really have that problem. We didn’t time every key I did, groups fell apart but never did I get flamed. In the end, tanking is great fun, rewarding and who doesn’t like an instant invite to almost every group?

The bonus advice is probably the most important :D Sometimes i help the tanks pulling the correct mobs when i am not tanking. Many appreciated that. Also read chat. So many times tanks just pull way to less or way to much. In lower content most people are understanding, but if you keep refusing to listen for advice or keep on making the same mistakes thats where the toxicity will roll in. So also be open minded for advice from the other members of the group. You're not the god of the dungeon right away and some people might know more than you do. Once you get the hang of it it's the most fun wow has to offer imo

Hey, recently found your channel and it's very helpful. I'm looking to get into tanking in DF. Previously I have healed and dpsd hc raids and +15s. But my guild I played with for 4 years died in Sanctum during the lawsuit. But I'm getting back into the game after 18 months or so (played some classic inbetween). An IRL friend that has lead a mythic guild invited me to start a guild together with some friends of his (heroic raiding and some m+). We have 7 players so far and 0 tanks, and I have some small experience with it in retail and a lot in classic. So I volonteered, it will be fun. Not sure what to play though. I was thinking that VDH was looking rather easy to get into and that was my top contender for last few days, but not sure. Can all 5 tanks be maintanks comfortably? Seems monk and dk are hardest to play, and with me beginning the role those shoud probably be avoided. Anyway, rant over. Good video!

I played protection paladin in BFA (only m+) and for shadowlands i started out with a blood DK, however i swapped to monk for my guild (mystic touch) since i went into heroic /mythic raiding and i have enjoyed the whole expansion with my monk as my "main" for most of the time... (changed things up with warlock / rogue) I changed for season 2 to a VDH as we had a monk dps join the guild and i have a steady group to gear up with. i have a little experience running low keys with bear aswell... but for me Protection warrior are super fun and also quite good right now, as it's the last tank class i have experience with and is going to be my main for DF. you can probably all of the content with all of the tank specs, but they all have very different playstyle... play what playstyle suits you. also, as a tank in mythic + it is somewhat "expected" that you set the pace and route for the dungeon, so learn them routes and % counts... Mythic dungeon tool addon for import /export of routes found on the internet for each dungeon. TLDR; They all decent, pick whatever looks interresting. Blood DK - healer panic (pug) BRM - healer dependent Bear - boring talents (alot cant be used in bear form) VDH - cool spec, strong, a little dependant on meta Pala- Builder spender tank Warrior - gigachad

Whenever you see someone playing the class better than yourself, ask questions to improve (outside of streamers). I feel like no one is answering the simple question. How to hold aggro, threat & enmity. You guys seem to always jump into high level stuff like "mythic+" like i know what that is...my highest-level class is 30. I just want to know how to grab aggro and keep it. After this week, WoW content creators are the most convoluted streamers, I see why the community is so isolated. You guys have such a wealth of knowledge but are terrible at explaining it. so people are forced to literally study small things about this game like it's college exam. Like I've played FF14 for 8 years are there abilities to grab threat? Are there AoE threat abilities, if so what are they? If there aren't then how do I hold the aggro of an entire mob? Less talking about dont worry about toxicity and bla bla, if someone is playing this game in 2023 they are familiar with MMOs, I dont need help not being snow flake I need help on how to tank in this game -__-

I can speak to the play the tank you enjoy take... I've been a tank since I started playing have tried them all I played brew s2 and s3 got really good at it but brew didn't look great coming into season 1 so I played warrior cause I pug and wanted to get into groups I hit my wall at 2700 and hit it hard and just didn't enjoy playing it I picked monk back up after the buffs and far surpassed my warrior within 2 weeks and haven't looked back sense

For anyone scared about pathing and what mobs to pull. A small trick I do is I (as an rdps main and tank alt) record my m+ runs and then I save on a different folder the runs where the tank performed really well and I study and memorize his path. Then when I log into my alt to tank I just copy his path and it works well

I have one tip: use your CDs early and often.

Totally agree, knowing the standard route for a dungeon and repeat it multiple times. I'd advice against jumping keylevels, instead do +2, +3 etc all the way to your goal.

I would say start with easier difficulties, so you get the hang of it. Then greadually increase the difficulty at your leassure.

Naowh, Nerf, and Andybrew are good tanks too.

Best thing to do, is jump straight into it. Learn from your mistakes. Fuck up a route? Learn from it? Fucked a boss pull? Learn from it. Ruined some guys' key? Learn from it. Get vote kicked? Fuck em'. Learn from it. Every mess up is a lesson. Eventually, you will be a pro.

I’ve experienced a lot less toxicity in this expansion when it comes to making mistakes/wiping in groups. Hopefully y’all get this too so don’t be afraid to try tanking out :)

Dragonflight has dragged in a lot of new players from what I’ve seen. It’s nice that mistakes are allowed again

Thing is if you start playing late, you can't really learn by just doing normals and heroics since everyone is so freaking overgeared.

The fact, that you need addons and external tools just so you can play an integral part of the game really puts me off.

Nice to see Tattman getting a small shoutout here. Watching the guy almost made me forget how shitty prot warrior was for almost all of shadowlands...
