They are called Bantu Knots :-) A little tip I've learned, fingers cause frizz. So next time after you remove the bobbie pins, use a little hair serum, pomade, or whatever you use to combat frizz; put it on your fingertips and run it down the length of the hair. It will help with frizz control and fly aways. Another thing is if you only separate at the root, instead of separating then brushing, your curls will last longer. Hope these tips help. Be blessed.

I'd do this with just two buns when I was a little girl, and now I do a sort of mix between a French braid and a rope braid on each side and wrap them into buns behind my ears. Gives rather mermaid-y hair, I can't do more for extra curliness though. I'm envious of all you ladies who can sleep with loads of bantu knots, the effect is beautiful!

That's not racist, it does matter. If she were to do a Dutch braid and call it something else, everybody would be telling her it's called a Dutch braid. It has nothing to do with being black. The hairstyle came out really nice, it looks great and natural and I (a black person) am very glad you came across it. When I woke up, I could hardly take the little buns out, like they literally just got stuck, that for a moment I thought my 20 buns on my head were never coming off! I grew up watching my Italian mother doing this after washing her hair. The hair was much shorter & lots more curls were put in. She didn't necessarily twist it but was making little circles of curls that were kept in place with two bobbi pins. She called it 'bobby pinning' her hair and it always came out beautiful!

I have naturally curly hair and this works great for curly hair too. Sometimes I need to braid it to keep it healthy as it dries so it doesn’t end up frizzy and flat. I take my braid out the next day and it’s still damp, then I add more product with wetted hands and gently work it in. It air dries and has a great curl pattern then if I’d styled it straight out of the shower.

Sunshine Baker, first of all, straightening your hair IS NOT only for people like ”us”. Literally, silk pressing just helps people manage their hair better and some people just like it. Whites do not own straight hair. People most Asians have naturally straight hair too. Pile on the anti frizz product before doing your curls. Even just mousse. But use lots of it. Dry hair will frizz using this method without product first.

When I was a little girl my grandma did pin curls in my hair before bed. It was the only way she ever curled her hair. These really add some nice twist. Now that my hair is butt length I think I'm going to have to try these! Thanks!

My mother used this "pincurl" method with bobby pins in the 30's, 40s & 50s. It's super easy to do - You don't necessarily have to even twist it that tight to get tight curls. Back then, people used "Dippity Do" setting gel for curls (rollers or pincurls) - it's used for ballet to keep hair flat without making it greasy - Also, it's used for Irish Step Dancing hair styles. A good tip is that you use "end papers" before curling so the hair doesn't knot IF you use sponge rollers which will give you amazing curls like this too.

Love them, I just started doing headless curls myself, I have baby fine hair, but I have a lot of hair, and it's mixed, curly around my face, wavy 80% and bone straight like 3 fingers in the back, yup a complete mess, so this method is becoming my go to since in not damaging my hair with ago the heart. My question is what did you use to brush it out, it looked great, I've been afraid to brush it because I thought I would look like a poodle, but your curls look natural and beautiful. Do you brush it out with a wide tooth comb or like a paddle brush?

I tried this last night. They turned out very similar, but one bun turned out completely straight. I just braided it and and made a hair braid headband. :) all in all very cute style.

I do the same thing but I put the hair around pieces of paper towels to help dry them faster. this is also great if you want the curls to stop half way up! also if you like a look with less product just use a spray in conditioner on dry hair and you will get the same effect. nice job on the video.

I noticed I'm the video she said comb them out but I didn't actually see her comb the curls. I have naturaly curly hair and my first thought was "she is going to find the curls and just make a ton a frizz." Separate with oiled fingers yes but do not comb. I tried this some years ago but I did it on wet hair 🤦‍♀️ so my hair didn't dry for HOURS LOL I got I patient and gave up on these.

Ok I'm not that uptight and I think the hair came out really cute but I will say this, the style that was used to create those curls is called bantu knots. even though you might not have known that, when you go on camera to present the technique to others I think it's only right that you at least use the correct name. no you do not have to do a whole rundown of the origin it's just that a lot of people who are just finding out about it may think this is new ( and it's kinda true because it's new to YOU). even if they still think it's new they'll be calling them by their correct name.
