I travel a lot, and I can't remember the last time I seen a hotel still using a wired LAN.

Some of the high-end hotels do still use wired, but I never connect to them. You don't know what you're connecting into exactly, or more importantly, if other clients on the hard-wired connection can see your device(s) or not.

My question is if this will also isolate your devices from people not within your private network (ie. can the firewall on the wireless ap/router also give you an extra layer of protection against outsiders or even other users on the hotel wifi? This TP Link router I think is what I've been looking for, mainly for security reasons as I've connected to a few hotel wi-fi's where they had client isolation turned off and in some case, you could see other clients on the network..

My old tplink router doesn't seem to have access point mode. I tried playing around with WDS bridging but can't seem to get it to work.

Would the TP-Link AC750 Wireless Wi-Fi Travel Router (TL-WR902AC) help with that, do you think? It's the newer version of the one in your video (you have the TP-Link N300 Portable Nano Travel Router).

is there a way to connect this device with a phone that is used as a hotspot (for more devices) BY CABLE ? I'm asking because the phone i use for hotspot frequently disconnects from devices that are connected to it through wifi/wirelessly, BUT not from the devices that are connected to it through USB tethering... so i think, if there is a way to bypass using hotspot phone as a wireless router, but only as a USB tethering point/mobile data, and to use this TP link device as a wireless router, that could be a solution. Or maybe you have any other suggestion?

I have a internet card, to connect one device, I want the router to use this internet connection to share the connection. On Amazon I see CAT 6, 7, and 8 ethernet cables. Does it matter which one you use? Will the hotel necessarily provide the cable or should you carry your own?

if you don't going to reach more than 1000MB then just buy a cat 5e cable I dont think that the hotel will provide you an internet cable

So it only works if you bring a laptop with you to the hotel as you need to access the router management page in order to set up the internet while inside the hotel room. Is that correct?

Could you help me understand if this router has the capability to connect to an Open Wifi Connection that has a login via the captive portal. If not, would you know a router that supports it. I am looking at a method to share an open wifi with multiple devices. I have the captive portal login for this network which is limited to one device if directly connected.

The one you are advertising is 27.99 in uk and the WR902AC is 34.99 so only a few quid difference .

might be worth looking at. Just compare them to make sure you are getting more and not less (sometimes that happens with a new version where they take away something they didn't think was important)

Yip! I use it to amplify the signal in room and some hotel limit it to 2 devices so this gets around that too.

Hey, my internet is really bad when I’m on my PS4 playing fortnite, im on a base 30-20 ping but it keeps constantly bumping up to 100-1000 a lot of the time, I watched your PS4 dns video, and it didn’t really help much, do you have any other pointers that could help out?

you just use the WiFi and create your own hot spot. This logs onto the hotel's wifi and you are good to go.

I've tried similar products when on the move before! I think the specs will have massively improved since I last tried though. Probs a bit of a noob question but anyway: so when you plug the tp link nano router using the network cable in the hotel room, are you siphoning (legally) hotel wifi in conjunction with tp link wifi? Or are you kind of extending the hotel wifi range? I'm intrigued about how it all works. Anyway, deffo gonna have to invest on one of these for travelling about. P.s. grand vid again, you're smashing it with wifi topics! 😁

great question and not a noob one at all 😂 - when you plug in the cable, you are creating your own hot spot in your room so that you no longer need to use the hotel's WiFi but are using your own. This is so effective and all your devices can connect without having to stand in that one corner that gets WiFi 😜

So it just the same as using your iPhone as a hotspot for all your devices

Typically you will get much faster bandwidth from the hotel Lan cable. But yes you can always use your phone. Don't forget when you travel internationally, data is slow and expensive so this will work for that too. Great questions! And thanks for the message and watching!
