How long after reboot will the speed go down to 10mbps (down load) level ? If it take a month then it's not bad but if it takes a day then that's bad.

I've used cellular hotspot for over 10 years. I tell people that ask me about hotspots that they need a minimum of 3 bars signal strength for decent performance. I'm a retired IT professional with over 30 years experience.

I also have 2 bars. The 2nd day owning this. First night it was flying. Was so happy after living 1year with my phone as a hot spot with 3g speeds. Ok, Then next day I come in after work, turn my computer on and bingo I'm unexplainably back down to 3g speeds on a 5g device. Another thing I can't get my t moble app to open up on my apple x phone. Another thing I can't connect via WIFI to this thing because it won't accept the password on the bottom of the device. Thanks for your video.

Just did a reset on the device for 3 secs and bingo again up to 4g speeds where I like to be. Also, its worth mentioning, I live in a basement so I don't have high expectations. As long as I get decent speed, I"m ok with it.

@@handicamper101I’m not sure. What I do know is the unit is gateway unit is MUCH cooler which was my primary concern. I would expect the unit to perform better overall as it’s cooler. My performance was excellent before I added the fan. Pings in the mid teens, download speeds as high as the mid 600’s (mostly in tge 475-550 range) and uploads in the mid 30’s. These are wireless speed tests on my IPhone 8+ using Speedtest. I’ve hardwired my Firestick 4k (not Max) to the gateway via a Cat 8 Ethernet cable and a Cable Matters USB 2.0 Micro-B Ethernet adapter capabile of speeds up to 480 gigs, not like the 10/100 cable from Amazon and other provides. As a result I’m reading in the mid 300 gig speed ON THE FIRESTICK itself for blazing performance. It’s at least 100 gig faster than my Firestick speeds read when being fed wirelessly.

Can you just unplug it and plug it back in to do this? I'm new to t mobile internet and only get 2 bars and stay around 30-40 download but have awful ping spikes sometimes
@handicamper101
@handicamper101 2 жыл бұрын
the gateway does have a battery, so if you unplug it, it will stay on. you have to depress the power button first before unplugging it. there is a couple other ways to restart/reboot it. there is a reboot button on the back of the unit where you have to use a paperclip or a sim tray tool. holding it in for just a few seconds will just reboot the gateway. holding it down longer will factory reset. hope this helps.

what effects the upload speed, I keep seeing people getting lower download speeds than me, but totally crush me in the upload speed department. For reference, I typically get 250-350mbps download, but can barely kit 15mbps tops on the upload. usually its closer to 10. My router tends to connect to band n41 for 5G, and my tower is about 1-2 miles away with trees inbetween. Using a log antenna with mimo 2x antenna, which did help doubled the upload speed (was originally getting around 6mbps) and made it more stable, but was getting the same or slightly worse download speeds even without the antennas.
@Nick-xw1yy
@Nick-xw1yy 2 жыл бұрын
I must've gotten pretty lucky for the most part lol. I get anywhere from 150-650mbps.... The only issue is that it's just madly unstable, and fluctuates constantly.
@handicamper101
@handicamper101 2 жыл бұрын
Mine fluctuated quite a bit at first when I received the newer 5G gateway, then it finally leveled out and has been very consistent. Of course they have done a lot of upgrading in my area as far as towers and such. 150-650Mbps is awesome. Thanks for stopping by.

When I click on "system" it asks for a user name and password. I used admin and my password on the bottom and it didn't work. I am getting B66 and N71 and speeds about like you did there at first 20-30 sometimes even slower.
@handicamper101
@handicamper101 2 жыл бұрын
If you set up your gateway using the app it ask you to set a password for the admin . It is different than your internet user name and password. If I’m not mistaken the the user name AND password is “admin” if you didn’t change it while setting up . Try that and see . Thanks for stopping in

You didn't show when you restarted the gateway, what band(s) you were connected to then, to go from 20 to 80 down. With a primary signal only, you're on 4G. When you're getting 80 down, you're either on a faster 4G or a 5G band, like n71 or n41. With no a/c, my house temperature dropped 15 degrees and more, and I so seem to get a little better average performance. On B2/n41, I get 200 down average, and 30 up, with peak speeds of 420/70. And I'm 5 miles from the tower, which I think has got to be some kind of record speed over that much distance. I also get B66/n41 and my speeds on that are slower, like only 10 upload instead of 30. But in order to get my faster 5G combo signal pair, which is actually a 4G/5G signal pair, I need to restart the gateway in the morning, and I like to use the button on the side because I find that if after turning it off, and waiting 5 seconds before turning it on, I ALWAYS get my fastest combination, and it holds for the entire day usually.
@handicamper101
@handicamper101 2 жыл бұрын
I forgot all about the bands. I’ll have to look and see what I’m connected to when my speeds are the best. Thanks a bunch for dropping in. Sounds like you’re getting some good speeds.
@bobbycross2739
@bobbycross2739 2 жыл бұрын
the downside here is that once rebooted, the device will switch to n41 for about 30 minutes, then right back to n71. i'd be willing to bet that OP lost his speed in 30 min. This within itself is problematic.
@Timzart7
@Timzart7 2 жыл бұрын
@@bobbycross2739 I think I'm fortunate to not be in a place where I connect intermittently to an n71 instead of a faster n41, as there are no towers with n71 nearby and I haven't picked it up once. For people who have that problem though, an external antenna pointed in the right direction, often solves their problem of floating between an n71 and n41, both which may be a similar distance away. The internal antennas in the can have some directional capabilities, depending on how the can is rotated, but not nearly as much as an external panel antenna that is directional. A few external antennas are omnidirectional. Don't buy one of those if you're looking to pick up a specific signal combination.

@Timzart7 I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. T-mobile told me yesterday there was an outage in my area that is causing my issue. I'm just not sure if I'm buying that explanation though.

lol I was whining about 112 mbps. So I called them and they reset the router (which apparently I could have just done), I am at about 336 mbps. My computer maxes at 433 mbps (wirelessly of course), but I am ok with 336 mbps. I had no clue people even got that low with this system. I am in the boonies of Minnesota and got this thing on a promotion for $40 a month, gnna stick with it. About 2 months after I got the Gateway, they decided to put in a 5,000 mbps fiber running down the highway near my house. They told me it will be $189 a month for 1 gig (1,000 mbps); I think I am going to stick with this for a bit.
