Language is clearly, from abundant evidence, an art form; full of devices like the painter's palette with contrasting colours/conditions and other clumsy imaging, depicting 3-D on a 2-D surface - impossible without incurring distortion............................ etc. Your seemingly petulant reaction to Carlos Morel is understandable after your years trying to teach students an exact methodology - it's called pedantry - some kind of mimicry without original ( real ) creativity. @RmFrZQ

It is planned obsolescence calculated by R&D of every big company. And it is not about saving money on production costs. This is the reason why, among the other probably minor things, you'll have to buy a new product to replace the old one, that probably still works fine. This principle is used everywhere, in smartphones and network devices, which are designed to use already outdated for 2-3 years chips, and in every other hardware imaginable, like CCTV cameras, laptops, washing machines, you name it. A-hole design and "dark patterns" are everywhere and sadly people got so used to them they don't even notice.

TV's don't ship with faster Ethernet adapters because around 98% of all of their customers don't even use that port at all - they just connect to the web over Wi-fi. Expect that port to likely be dropped from ALL TV's next year entirely. Companies won't spend money on features that their customers aren't using. They will remove them so they can lower their end cost to the customer while increasing their profit margins.

Be aware that this method (possibly no matter what usb adapter you will use) won't work with anything which is connected to your local network, my NAS storage is not visible anymore by TV, with usb dongle connected. Probably because the firmware of the TV doesn't see local network, even though the internet connection works but TV still "thinks" there is no cable connection. *Checked with LG CX series.*

They probably use generic USB Ethernet internally in the TV so it naturally ends up using the same kernel module. I very much doubt they compiled anything beyond basic support. Fortunately a lot of modern USB ethernet adapters use this modern USB NIC driverless model. (obviously not technically driverless, but they follow a standard API so are compatible with a generic driver)

Thank you for pointing out the work around for the limited lan speeds of the majority of TVs. And by workaround, I mean the WiFi, totally forgot about the fact that the wireless speed on my TCL 75Q825 is not under the same 100 mbps limit, I was able to double my speed through connecting to my 5GHz network (side note: my router is only about a foot or two away from my TV), went from 96mbps using ethernet to 186mbps using WiFi. Also, this video reminded me of some problems within quite a few different consumer industries. When taking into considering the time we live in, I can't think of one good reason why all TVs with ethernet don't have 1Gbps supporting LAN ports, this is 2022 right?! The only thing I can think of is greedy cheapskateness. Usb 3.0 is everywhere, 1 Gbps supporting devices are everywhere, affordable broadband speeds in excess of 100mbps is affordable in most places. Just doesn't make sense that they don't future proof these tvs in such a simple area.

@@a.g9825 I have the Comcast 1.2 Gbps speed tier. I have a an SB8200 modem configured for link aggregation to my rt-ax88u router which is configured to utilize the WAN Aggregation feature of the router. Of course the 1Gbps LAN ports limitd my max download speed for any one device to 960 mbps, but full speed utilization can be reached by simultaneous devices being used at the same time. The limitation of the WiFi speed on the TV is partly due to the limitation of the tvs onboard wifi adapter which is 802.11ac 2x2, which realistically has a max down speed of around 455 mbps. So my speed results for my TV may be lower than what it actually can do due to whatever built-in speed test software or server it uses.

This is actually the second time I have come across your video here. 1st time was at the time you released it and I was researching the market for an upgrade to my 43" LG 4K tv from 2016 and have since bought a Sony X90K which is many worlds apart in every aspect. So all I do is stream movies and shows with apps built in and I pay for 100Mbps with Ethernet directly in and I tested wifi at around 80Mb\s but the Ethernet actually gives me 120Mb\s. Now I'm wondering why Comcast would be ever so generous to me as I've never given them anything extra over my bill. And I also noticed but can't understand why the no.2 Ethernet port is active with bursts of almost a Gig for about 5 minutes then down to 20ish for a few minutes at a time. And can't find an explanation anywhere for it being the norm or not. Happy webbernetting and thanks for the video! Time to buy that adapter to see what happens. ✌️🍻👍

Interesting stuff, though I suspect the vast majority of us here in the uk are are on much lower data speeds and therefore are not going to see a difference. Its rediculous that ethernet ports are gimpped on high end tvs though...

Like he said in the video though, this will be more of a concern for internal networking. If you have a media server for example.

What are these companies doing cheapening out on ethernet port. If consumer can get a 12 dollar usb to ethernet to solve the issue, for biggest companies like sony, it should be couple cents to get those parts. So disappointed especially sony. They freaking have GAMING DIVISION. PS5 ffs.

My new router constantly alerts me to the fact that my nice Samsung TV, a smart TV, is only able to use up to 100 megabits of network bandwidth, with the remaining connection ports supporting up to 1 gigabit. This is something I find impossible to ignore. At last, I recognised that's the subject you are discussing. You're amazing, young dude! Hey, thank you very much for being such a nice guide!😉

I need this to use on my Sony 65 a80j, Bravia Core Pure Streaming! Movie viewing was not good on Bravia Core. My test only showed at 25 download speeds. I have installed the adapter on my Sony a80j, using port 3.0. Now my download speeds have increased dramatically to around 480. Now feel good watching Bravia Core Pure Stream. Now, for Netflix it only went up to around 70 download speeds????

Neat idea, wouldn't have expected for TVs to support those adapters, but finally there's away to get decent speeds via LAN. Still it is emberassing that manfucaturers put Fast Ethernet (100MBit/s) ports on their devices when even a single board computer for 50$ has Gigabit Ethernet...
@Sheepy007
@Sheepy007 3 жыл бұрын
While Gigabit lan is a necessity for a single board computer, it sure as hell is not for a tv since it would only affect people who use the internet functions of their tv instead of a external streaming device, of those group people who would use ethernet over wifi, of those group people who have Internet faster than 100 mbit and of those group people who really think they want to have exceptional future proof devices. Overall, just a fraction, of a fraction, of a fraction of your target audience and when you manufacture like 1 Million devices and can safe 1$ of manufacturing cost by chosing 100mbit over 1k, it's a million Dollars now that you have overall saved and can invest in other ways.
