Why on earth is the port only 100mbps? What could that possibly save them? A dollar per TV?

It is planned obsolescence calculated by R&D of every big company. And it is not about saving money on production costs. This is the reason why, among the other probably minor things, you'll have to buy a new product to replace the old one, that probably still works fine. This principle is used everywhere, in smartphones and network devices, which are designed to use already outdated for 2-3 years chips, and in every other hardware imaginable, like CCTV cameras, laptops, washing machines, you name it. A-hole design and "dark patterns" are everywhere and sadly people got so used to them they don't even notice.

TV's don't ship with faster Ethernet adapters because around 98% of all of their customers don't even use that port at all - they just connect to the web over Wi-fi. Expect that port to likely be dropped from ALL TV's next year entirely. Companies won't spend money on features that their customers aren't using. Thank you for pointing out the work around for the limited lan speeds of the majority of TVs. And by workaround, I mean the WiFi, totally forgot about the fact that the wireless speed on my TCL 75Q825 is not under the same 100 mbps limit, I was able to double my speed through connecting to my 5GHz network (side note: my router is only about a foot or two away from my TV), went from 96mbps using ethernet to 186mbps using WiFi. Also, this video reminded me of some problems within quite a few different consumer industries. When taking into considering the time we live in, I can't think of one good reason why all TVs with ethernet don't have 1Gbps supporting LAN ports, this is 2022 right?! The only thing I can think of is greedy cheapskateness. Usb 3.0 is everywhere, 1 Gbps supporting devices are everywhere, affordable broadband speeds in excess of 100mbps is affordable in most places. Just doesn't make sense that they don't future proof these tvs in such a simple area.

Hi. What's your internet speed? Are you getting more than 70% through WiFi?
@dece8707172 жыл бұрын
@@a.g9825 I have the Comcast 1.2 Gbps speed tier. I have a an SB8200 modem configured for link aggregation to my rt-ax88u router which is configured to utilize the WAN Aggregation feature of the router. Of course the 1Gbps LAN ports limitd my max download speed for any one device to 960 mbps, but full speed utilization can be reached by simultaneous devices being used at the same time. The limitation of the WiFi speed on the TV is partly due to the limitation of the tvs onboard wifi adapter which is 802.11ac 2x2, which realistically has a max down speed of around 455 mbps. So my speed results for my TV may be lower than what it actually can do due to whatever built-in speed test software or server it uses.

So all I do is stream movies and shows with apps built in and I pay for 100Mbps with Ethernet directly in and I tested wifi at around 80Mb\s but the Ethernet actually gives me 120Mb\s. Now I'm wondering why Comcast would be ever so generous to me as I've never given them anything extra over my bill. And I also noticed but can't understand why the no.2 Ethernet port is active with bursts of almost a Gig for about 5 minutes then down to 20ish for a few minutes at a time. And can't find an explanation anywhere for it being the norm or not. Happy webbernetting and thanks for the video! Time to buy that adapter to see what happens. ✌️🍻👍

They simply think you do not need it any way … what for … UHD requires 25Mbps … stepping it up beyond 100 Mbps … a speed in many countries still is utopic … does not change a bit … as you only have more than needed … my average max speed is 55Mbps and streaming works perfect … when I had 80Mbps nothing worked different … and there was absolutely no difference to 300Mbps … which locally is not possible as max if the lines is 75Mbps which the provided internet usually hardly achieves …
