@@JamesDHalliday no luck 😞. Ended up sending the pixel into Google for "Repair". They sent back a refurbished phone, same model. Costs = $0 because it's covered by Google's extended warranty, because it's a known issue with motherboard/display. We're lucky to have auto backed up our data.

Awesome Vid, appreciate the help! I smashed my old phone and the screen was black with no touch. I was able to get all my data & photos back from my old phone with this method! Only thing is if your phone is locked, for Samsung Users, you have to go online and log into ur account to unlock the phone so you can actually see your screen or it just shows a lock screen with no input to your passcode. Which makes it near impossible to enter your passcode on a black screen making it a huge guessing game... Soo hope this helps some1 else!

I had the same problem. I have read a lot in many (comments in) clips. These steps (pushing with thumbs, tapping, freeze method etc.) did not help me with my LCD screen issue. Or make screenshots with the OTG (on the go) cable connected to a monitor which is also helpful. For me the OTG didn’t helped. I bought a HUB in witch you can put a monitor (hdmi), mouse (usb-a), keyboard (use a usb-a to sub-c converter for the keyboard port). This did also not helped in the beginning, which is very frustrating and I already had an appointment at a repair shop. Luckily after a few hours trying to make connection with the HUB, somehow the software Dex made a connection with the HUB through the monitor. So when the HUB is connected with all the cables in it, you can press the mobile power button one time and/or backspace onetime or mouse to see something on your monitor, but normally this shouldn’t be necessary. But take note that it may take time for the software to recognize the HUB/monitor and for yourself to find the knowhows of how to make connection with your devices. Also my S21 ultra was in flight mode. If this wasn’t the case you have the possibility to go to Samsung fine my phone website and unlock your phone. So when I had connection with my HUB on the monitor I stopped the flight mode, I went to setup > accounts and back-up and made a backup of my files in the Samsung Cloud and for my pictures/movies in the Google photo app (I bought 200 GB in the Google cloud). You also have the possibility to connect an external hard drive in the HUB so then you don’t have to buy GB. Also I put the USB debugging on in the developers mode.

Would this still work after you force restart your phone? I’ve tried HDMI 1 and HDMI 3 (ARC) and it just says nothing is connected. I’ve force shut down the phone a few times. My phone shows slight light in a single 1-3 pixel line across the bottom of the screen. I know it is on, but because it has been restarted does it mean I cannot connect it to the TV? Please make a part 5 for non MHL compatible phones with completely usable screen. I will try the vysor computer app when I have wifi. I will also try mhl hdmi tv connection, I'm assuming mhl isnt compatible bc I have a new android: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 128gig I think my phone uses chrome cast instead of mhl? Assuming my Z flip 4 isn't mhl compatible, and I have no visual or touch feedback all I have is a secondary display when the main screen is closed. (However even the second screen is starting to deteriorate, it doesn't function at all anymore only shows time and date now.) I'm completely out of options, t-mobile has charged me $700 bc I haven't returned it yet but they give me no options to backup data 🤦🏾‍♂️

If you’re asking if you can mirror your phone to your Mac via HDMI, then the answer is no. The HDMI port on your Mac is an HDMI out, meaning you can output your Mac’s display to en external monitor, but you Mac cannot receive a signal from your phone.

I have galaxy m51 , its not completely broken .. it turns on .. Is USB Debugging required for this process to function? Unfortunately, I've encountered a situation where my OnePlus 7 Pro's screen is broken and completely black. I've been actively seeking solutions to mirror/cast my phone's display onto my laptop or TV. Many of the available methods, however, require USB debugging, which is disabled by default on my device. If your phone has a pin/letter password, this is a possible solution: When you see the lock symbol on the TV, plug in an external keyboard, click ‘enter’ to act as the swipe, type your password, then click ‘enter’ again. Your phone should unlock.

I tried this method. the phone was locked with a pattern and the pattern didn't show on the screen. i tried moving the mouse and pressing buttons. also tried connecting a keyboard as well. the mouse is only moving on the actual 90% broken screen and I can see it move in areas that are not broken on the actual screen but no activity on the monitor except for a lock icon. what should I do?

Is your phone OTG compatible? If so, it shouldn't matter if your phone is locked. If not, then your phone doesn't have the capability to connect a mouse.

If your phone is OTG & MHL compatible, then yes; you can use this method to access your Gmail account from your old phone.

No, this can't be done using a laptop. Laptops don't have the ability to receive a signal via HDMI, they can only output their own display. If you don't have access to a TV, a desktop computer monitor would work.

How do you unlock a phone that is password protected? Shows you just swiped to get it unlocked.

You swipe with the mouse, then use the mouse to type in your password.

Unfortunately, no. The HDMI port on a laptop is an output, not an input, meaning it is only able to output its own display to another monitor; it cannot receive the display of another device. You can connect your phone to a TV or a desktop computer monitor though.

Thanks so much for the quick response, i can't figure out if my Google Pixel2 has OTG +MHL , did some research and can't find anything, i happen to have just ordered the USB hub as well lol

Looks like the phone time and lock showed on tv but could not get mouse to work and unlock phone? desperate :((

I had a commenter say they plugged in a USB keyboard instead of a USB mouse, clicked 'enter' on the keyboard (to act as the swipe), typed their passcode, then clicked 'enter' again; then their phone unlocked and showed up on the TV screen. Then you can plug in the USB mouse and control your phone from there. I hope this works for you. 🙂

From what I have read online, the Samsung Galaxy A30s is not MHL compatible, meaning it isn’t capable of outputting its display via HDMI. As I said in the beginning of the video, your phone has to be both OTG *and* MHL compatible for this to work. So unfortunately this method won’t work for you.
