I’m going this November and have a JR pass. If I was to book when I arrive in Tokyo, can I stay on the express train from Shinjuku - Kawaguchiko and just pay the difference when I arrive Kawaguchiko or does the ticket between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko have to be pre purchased? Are there English speaking staff on the Mt. Fuji excursion and at Kawaguchiko station? Thank you.
@halbailman Жыл бұрын
I can't speak specifically here except to say you should be able to buy the specific section ticket in Shinjuku or rely on staff at the destination or a conductor on the train. Ticketing staff generally know enough English to help with purchases. If you can't obtain a ticket in Shinjuku, I would just get on the train and see what happens.

If I have only a day to spare, should I visit Kawaguchiko or Hakone? (I'll be visiting this October)
@tokyocheapo Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you’d like to see. If getting a good view of Mt. Fuji is your top priority then you’ll probably have more luck at Kawaguchiko. If you’re not as fussed about Mt. Fuji and just want a nice mountain escape then Hakone is a good spot. The main thing about Hakone is there’s a lot of different transport - pirate ship, ropeway, train etc. - which can be a lot of fun but it’s quite a long, tiring day if you do all of it. Hope that helps! 😊

@halbailman Жыл бұрын
@olivilla6960 The 600 figure is the express train surcharge. The 1770 figure is the base fare and the surcharge. Yes, the JR Pass is valid to Otsuki, and you should be able to buy that specific ticket for beyond Otsuki at Shinjuku Station in the vicinity of the train platform.
@halbailman Жыл бұрын
You should be able to buy the specific ticket for beyond Otsuki at Shinjuku Station in the vicinity of the train platform. No need to leave the train at Otsuki to do this. Seat reservation can be done at the station. Whether it's required depends on the popularity of the train at the time. I can't speak about this one because it's quite new. During the week probably OK. Weekends is a different matter.
