Great video! I’ve had the Fury for about 8 months, and the Atmos conversion is just great. I bought a Sony x900f just before eARC ports were introduced, so this was a no-brainer solution! You did resolve the one issue I have. I have the Fury plugged into a power strip, and when I switch between my FiOS set top box and AppleTV, I have to unplug/replyg the AppleTV from the Fury to restore audio. The handshake issue being identified, I will power the Fury through the TV USB, rather than the standard plug. Cheers!

That didn't work for me, it worked for like an hour -- once the TV was off and I came back, all the audio stopped working from the TV again :( Have to use .82_2 to make it work, .86 works as long as you don't shut anything off.. I'm using and x900f also. If this isn't your case, I'd love to know all your settings.

Didn't occur to me to plug the Arcana into the USB port on my TV; great tip! 2. Velcro-ing the Arcana to the back of the TV for cable management issues; never would have thought of that; great tip! First, let me provide my setup, then my conclusions for your members. To be successful with the Arcana stripping Atmos for non-eArc users the setup is very important regarding: Streaming device, type of display, and HDMI cables. HD Fury support makes a huge issue of low-quality cables being causal in the Arcana not working to spec. SETUP: ATV 4K > Arcana > Display/Panasonic TC-P50GT50, 1080p TV (2012 ARC only), Audio/Sonos Arc SL with 2, One SLs, Sub G3; HDMI cables: Cable Matters 3-Pack 48Gbps Ultra HD 8K HDMI Cable 6.6 ft / 2m with 8K @120Hz, 4K @240Hz and HDR Support 1. 1080p display will not pass Atmos, without ATV 4K, or Fire TV 4K Max (older FireOS 6 devices will not work; can't speak to any other devices; after receiving my Arcana in California from Taiwan and learning this the "hard way", I bought both the ATV 4K and Fire TV 4K Max; keeping the ATV 4K -- wow, what a step up from my Fire TV 4K) 2. I am not using the ARC port on my Panasonic Display; in having the ATV 4K "learn" my Panasonic remote, both through its IR and the CEC settings, the ATV 4K remote turns my Display, ATV, and Arcana on/off in sync (both with Arcana powered with its AC, and powered with my Display's USB) 3. HDFury's support is most excellent at its Discord board. A new user should pay attention to the directions given for set up, initial troubleshoot, and common issues. However, the folks there (Taiwan) are extremely diligent and with grace, support newbs' like me asking redundant questions I hope this may be helpful to those with older 1080p Displays in avoiding the streaming device pitfall I encountered. I can now stream Atmos with all major streaming apps (HBO Max, Netflix Premium, Apple TV+, even Prime). I've watched your setup videos for the full Arc system; can't say all the effort was worth it for Atmos; sure Atmos sounds good, but not that much better in regards to vertical audio object placement/enhanced enjoyment. (Wish list: Sony HT-A9 😂) Now, going from stereo with two Event BIAS 20/20 (30 years old, lol) to a home theater surround system with all the gear mentioned above is AMAZING! HD Fury's Arcana works well with the Sonos Arc and now the Gen2 Beam (probably). I tried this with another set up - Sharp Aquos LC-65UE630X with Samsung HW-A650 (because the audio DD+ processing from my Google TV by the TV through to the Samsung soundbar causes the TV to eventually stop processing and thereon sound stops) but the Arcana cannot identify the HW-A650. HD Fury will not likely add support even though their web page says it can send audio to all ARC/eARC soundbars as it is working on a new product VRROOM. So 1. NVidia Shield Pro -> HDFury Arcana -> Sharp Aquos LC-65UE630X -> Sonos Arc + Sub3 + 2xOnes :: Works (Atmos TrueHD + DDP) 2. Google Chromecast with Google TV -> HDFury Arcana -> Sharp Aquos LC-65UE630X -> Samsung HW-A650 :: NOT working as the Arcana did not identify the soundbar 3. NVidia Shield Pro -> LG OLED65G1PTA -> Sonos Arc + Sub3 + 2xOnes :: Works (Atmos TrueHD + DDP)

Great review! The RS232 port allows for a connection to a Bluetooth module to be released by HDFury. This will allow you to connect to it with a smartphone app and change and view the settings. I probably won’t bother getting it. I use reading glasses to view the tiny LCD screen. Lol.

I've paid a lot for my Lg 79 inch in 2015 it only has ARC input, I was not going to fork out more money to get a EARC compatible TV so I purchased the ARCANA and it works. The firmware is also easily updated.

HDFury Arcana can be helpful for owners of a Sonos Beam, if they have a tv, that can not pass through dolby digital 5.1. My LG tv from 2014 can only pass through 2.0 from external devices.

I’m happily using BestBuy Insignia HDMI audio extractor with 4K and HDR support. It only does 5.1 via optical out. In which you will need the optical to HDMI adapter. It’s only $50 which is way less than $250.

I have had nothing but issues with the HD Furry Arcana. my set up is: Sony KD-55AG8 Apple TV Sonos Arc + Sub Gen 3 + Sonos one SL's x 2 I find that when I connect the Arcana to the ARC port (HDMI 3) and use any other HDMI input I don't get any sound from the TV. i only get sound when first connected. Do you have any advise on setting to overcome this?

Good video and I can imagine this being very useful for some people. I would just like to point out when using Nevada shield / Apple TV or basically any form of streaming device, there's no such thing as Lossless Dolby Atmos (Bandwidth Limited) What one will probably experience will be a piggy bank version of Dolby d Plus (lossy Dolby Atmos) don't get me wrong it will still impressive but not true Lossless Dolby Atmos. The only way one will be truly be able to experience Lossless Dolby Atmos would be through a physical media device (Blu-ray / DVD player) which would then be Dolby true HD which is Lossless! With that being said, I would imagine when using this particular method, the upgraded sonic performance experience will be well worth it! So all in all.... good show 👍

The thing I'm most interested in regarding this product is how well it solves the lip sync issues with the SONOS only having the 1 HDMI port. I read that it pretty much solves it completely as you can use it as a way to (sort of) plug the external player into the SONOS, via this unit, rather then into the TV. I have the Beam gen 2 which I love but my bluray player is driving me nuts with a very slight lip sync issue (sound very slightly behind picture). TV apps are fine of course. I read that this unit acts as a way to solve this very annoying issue

Thx for the video. I only have 1 source (AppleTV 4k), an Xgimi Horizon Pro (with Arc), and a Sonos Beam 2 (with eArc). I bought an 33Ft optical HDMI cable (phoossno Certified) to connect projector signal to Beam 2. When using the 4K Arcana device, would you suggest using the 33ft optical HDMI cable to run the audio (having a short HDMI connection carrying video signal between AppleTV and Projector), or using the optical HDMI cable for 4K video (having a short audio connection between AppleTV and Sonos Beam 2). I guess my questions is, is the long 33ft optical HDMI cable better for carrying audio or video without quality of signal? . Does Dolby Atmos audio require more bandwidth than 4k video when traveling a long distance (30 ft)?

Hi Peter Thank you for your video really nice to watch. I recently bought hdfury Arcana for my old full hd Philips tv in combination with chromecast with tv and beam gen 2 etc. When i reset the Arcana Netflix is working full admos only Prime only DD+ . I change the scaler in Arcana settings to 4k sdr 12b and change chromecast also to 4k and Prime is working again. My question is changing these settings will this harm any of my devices? Thank you.

Hi Peter. Another great video. I’ve used Arcana with ATV 4K and Fire Stick 4K for a while now. The S2 app will display “Dolby Atmos” when using various services, Netflix, Disney, Apple+ etc… However, if it was truly lossless wouldn’t the S2 app display the signal as “True HD”? And isn’t that only available from physical media such as blu ray due to bandwidth constraints? I may be completely wrong but thought that was the case.

Dolby Atmos isn’t actually a soundtrack at all. It’s metadata that is used by compatible audio gear to control which speakers are reproducing certain sounds for object based sound. Streaming services embeds the metadata to DD+ while 4K Blu-ray movies embed it in Dolby True HD. 0lex.also supports Dolby Atmos embedded in True HD. That information piggybacks on top of existing surround sound signals. At the moment, Dolby Atmos can only do this with two types of surround sound signals: Dolby TrueHD Dolby Digital Plus Dolby TrueHD is a lossless, very high-bandwidth format that is currently only available on Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray discs. It’s transmitted over an HDMI cable, from a Blu-ray player to an AV receiver, TV, or a soundbar that can pass through the video. Atmos via TrueHD is also supported by some media player apps, like Plex, that run on the Nvidia Shield TV family of streaming devices. Also, no mention of LLDV on the Arcana which allows you out to get DV on displays that doesn't do DV and only does HDR10. It's also great for projectors as no projector supports DV. You have to have a source capable of LLDV, the 2019 shield pro and ATV4K both do LLDV. With LLDV (low latency Dolby Vision) the source is processing dynamic metadata and doing the dynamic tone mapping instead of the display. Essentially all this is accomplished via EDID spoofing from the HDFury. On the handshake one of the pieces of information is DV compatiblility. By spoofing the EDID of a DV display. The source, in my case Shield. Pro 2019, prompts if you want to enable DV on and you choose yes and it puts LLDV to the HDFury. Since the source is doing the dynamic tone mapping you are getting DV on a display that isn't DV compatible. You just won't ever get the DV logo on your display. LLDV was created by Sony and Dolby Labs as different displays took different times processing the dynamic metadata. With the source doing it there are no latency issues. That's why there were no DV games until LLDV due to lag. STD is no longer required to be DV compliant but LLDV is. blog.semtech.com/demystifying-dolby-vision-for-pro-av Dolby Laboratories specified (Dolby Vision HDMI transmission specification, version 2.9) a new DV mode of operation: Low Latency referred to as LLDV (Low Latency Dolby Vision), as opposed to STD (older standard mode of operation for Dolby Vision). LLDV is the evolution of DV. This mode is now mandatory for DV devices, whereas the STD mode is no longer required. Basically, with LLDV, the processing is done at the source, eliminating all problems associated with high latencies and also the transfer of dynamic or static metadata (metadata is not sent to the sink in LLDV). The LLDV mode is doing wonders for source devices, sink devices and Pro AV equipment. LLDV is Much Better for Source Devices In one word, latency. By shifting the computationally intensive task of processing metadata and tone mapping into the source rather than the sink device, the latency from source to display is much lower (hence its name, “Low Latency”.) The source device is also the place where complex algorithms are the most suited to take place. Microsoft never implemented the old STD DV, but with the newer LLDV mode, it announced that its Xbox One now supports LLDV (system update 1810). Future Xbox Series S and Series X will also fully www.hdfury.com/enjoy-dynamic-dv-content-from-lldv-source-on-any-hdr10-display/ play capabilities with a stunning new method that started a growing hype on the major AV forums out there with more than 200K+ views on AVforums and AVSforum That so called “hack” or “trick” is basically enabling any HDR10 display to render dynamic DV content from any LLDV capable source. Result is the greatest boost in picture quality that one can get for the money.

@@MickMacSpoz I can't say with 100% but I don't believe so unless it's on the OSD, I don't personally own the Arcana, I've got an HDFury Diva, which has a webserver for configuration. It also has dials but they are confusing to use. I just know there is a way to enable it on the Arcana. If you display already does DV there is no reason too but if your display does not do DV, and the LLDV option is on, then it's spoofing the EDID to an LLDV capable TV. You will know it's working because you get prompted to enable DV, at least on the 2019 shield pro or ATV4K as the source has to do LLDV. I'm betting it's using a Sony EDID as they helped create LLDV. With the Diva you can pick from a 100 different built in EDIDd and load your own from connected devices (or online). I leave mine on AUTOMIX on the webserver. It's supposed to pick the best EDID based on the source and display. I would recommend checking out or asking on Avsforums dedicated thread for the Arcana to get a definite answer. With the diva you can verify via the webserver or OSD and create your own custom DV settings as well as different custom HDR10 static metadata to choose the max nits and other things like maxCLI/FALL while the Arcana, from my understanding, is you turn it on but have no control over how it works. My VRROOM shipped out last Thursday and will be here Wednesday so I'm pretty stoked about that now that I have a Samsung 2021 neo but for the life of me I can't find the new Xbox anywhere for retail. I can't believe it's only 50 bucks more than the Diva. I pre ordered and got it for 399. For movies I get 4K23.973 422 BT2020 12b LLDV 297MHz 2.2 and 4K59.931 422 BT2020 12b LLDV 593MHz 2.2 for 60fps when playing DV content, My Samsung shows up as Q90A: 4K60 444 HDR+ BT2020. There is barely any HDR10+ content available but I can notice the difference between LLDV and HDR10 on Netflix, particularly transitions from dark to light scenes. I have to watch the Witcher season 2 again because sometimes I was paying more attention to the picture quality at times than the plot.

Thank you for the video! I dont quite understand whether this device can solve my problem. I have a smart TV with only 3 ARC ports (NO eARC), and a sonos arc soundbar with an earc input. I want losless audio from my TV to my soundbar, and I dont want any external device like a ps5 or a receiver or cd player etc. If I connect my tv's arc port to my soundbar, everything works fine and i can get the compressed version of dolby atmos from streaming services etc, but i cannot get FULLHD losless audio from my tvs internal storage to my soundbar, because my tv ofcourse only outputs through an ARC hdmi port. My question is: If i connect the ARC port of my TV to this device, and then connect the device to the earc input of my soundbar. And then play a file that has full HD losless audio from my tv's internal storage, will it output the losless audio to my soundbar? Or is this device only usable with an 'external source', like a ps5 etc?

Thank you for the excellent video - I have a Samsung Q90T Witt Sonos Arc + Sub + 2 Era 300 and thus a full 7.1.4 system. I get Atmos from native TV apps and also Atmos True HD when using PS5 as Blu-ray player. However when gaming, despite all the correct settings, I only get 5.1 and not 7.1. I believe because the TV does not do a clean pass through. Would the HDfury Arcana solve this? If you still have it could you please test it for me?

another senario is when I want to listen Atmos music from iPhone but don't want wake / turn on the tv, I can have this device and airplay to Apple TV, then source will go to Arcana then to Sonos without turn on the TV. It's jusr the cost is so high.

Thanks for the video. Hey Pete could you do a demo or better said a test of Tidal with Sonos speakers. I actually have a home theater set up (arc + sub + 2 Sonos five as rear speaker) My concern is when you are playing music from Tidal is it better to do it from the Sonos app? In the Tidal app now we have Tidal Connect, where we can select to cast the music through Airplay or to the Sonos speakers. Which is the best way without losing quality? When I select thought Airplay from my iPad I note that it is able to play Master quality but when I select the Sonos speaker it plays on HiFi. Many thanks.

EDIT ..I could not get APPLETV4k to maintain SONOS ARC as default audio output ..We could switch it back but THEN audio began dropping out all together ...it kept changing back to TV Speakers ... Turning off HDMI CEC on ATV temporarily fixed this issue but it came back the next day .... Instead of going round and round with Apple tech support (useless don't waste your time seriously) I changed to an NVIDIA SHEILD PRO .... well I couldn't get sound to work AT ALL or even SONOS to confirm HDMI connection UNTIL I RESET ARCANA TO FACTORY DEFAULT ....after that it works perfectly and even CEC works as I can control the ARC volume with the Nvidia remote ...this may or may not have resolved the issue with ATV4k ..I did not hook it back up to test it since the NVIDIA SHEILD seems to work so well and supports atmos / HDR etc..... SO if your having connection issues RESET ARCAN TO DEFAULT 😁 your welcome

Hi Peter, I allow myself to contact you today because I have a problem, I have a Panasonic Viera TX-L47ET5E television, with an Nvidia Shield tv pro (Android) and a SONOS ARC sound bar. When I plug the soundbar into the HDMI ARC port and I check on the SONOS app I have a display that shows the stream is PCM Stereo and the result is the same when I connect in digital optical, if I use the box, will it give me another result with Dolby?

Hi Pete, thanks for your video. Very informative. I have a question that need your kind enlightenment on. I am using Philips 2017 tv ( don't support Dolby Atmos) that has an HDMI arc port and a Sony soundbar that can support Dolby atmos. I am using the tv native app of Netflix to watch Dolby Atmos content. Currently, I only get Dolby audio 48khz when I watch Netflix now. The Netflix video is showing that I am getting 5.1 audio. Will I get losless Atmos audio if I get this arcana fury if I still want to use the tv native Netflix app? Or i still need to have another tv streamer like nvidia or apple tv?

Dolby Atmos isn’t actually a soundtrack at all. It’s metadata that is used by compatible audio gear to control which speakers are reproducing certain sounds for object based sound. Dolby Atmos isn’t sound, it’s information about sound. That information piggybacks on top of existing surround sound signals. At the moment, Dolby Atmos can only do this with two types of surround sound signals: Dolby TrueHD Dolby Digital Plus Dolby TrueHD is a lossless, very high-bandwidth format that is currently only available on Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray discs. It’s transmitted over an HDMI cable, from a Blu-ray player to an AV receiver, TV, or a soundbar that can pass through the video. Atmos via TrueHD is also supported by some media player apps, like Plex, that run on the Nvidia Shield TV family of streaming devices. So with streaming services you are getting Atmos embedded in a DD+ signal (more than likely) and True-HD with 4K Blu rays and via Plex and other home streaming apps from a media server on the LAN or USB connected devices.

If the source does not do Dolby Atmos, then you will not receive Dolby Atmos.

What type of TV do you have? A good way to find out if you can get true atmos is if you have netflix bring up an atmos encoded movie I.e 6 underground. When you select it and before you press play it will list the specs of the movie that you're hardware is capable of as in picture quality 4k or hd and sound quality 5.1 or atmos if your set up is capable of atmos. This is a cool feature on netflix. I went between the netflix app on my TV which doesn't have an E-arc port therefore can't output atmos and the netflix app on my xbox 1s which I'm running through the HDfury and on the TV app it only shows 5.1 but on the xbox it showed atmos.

There’s no reason to buy the Arcana if you don’t have an audio source that can handle Atmos. What it’s for is if you have an Atmos source, but your TV cannot handle the Atmos. I use mine with an Apple TV4K (Atmos capable source), my Sonos Arc (Atmos capable sound bar) and Vizio TV (non Atmos capable). The Arcana basically splits the audio/video from the Apple TV and sends the video to my TV and the audio (Atmos or otherwise) to my sound bar.

I am unfamiliar with the Denon AVR that you have. But in short, you won't be able to get that setup working. The Denon AVR being eARC capable means it is getting Audio from your TV through the eARC port. But since your TV doesn't have it, you will use the HDFury to do it. But that means your AVR is not doing its job. So if you get the HDFury, you should not need the AVR.

I have been trying to connect to my Samsung UN85HU8550 tv but it is not detecting the sound bar. The TV is about 6 years old and has a hdmi arc connection. I have connected the hdmi cable from my sonos arc to the samsung tv but when I go to the settings there are no options to select the sound bar for my external speakers. What do you recommend that I do to get my sonos arc to work?

I must be doing something wrong. Seems my remote (Fios one remote) doesn’t seem to work. Hopefully someone can help me. What has helped is resetting the Hd fury Arcana which has flipped it back in to Atmos . When it is on Atmos the spoken word has been difficult to hear . I bought 2.1 cables which actually made it worse … let me know how you get on

Hi Peter, many thanks for your informative videos. I appreciate that you can't answer every question but I thought I'd ask mine in the event that you can help. I recently bought the HDFury Arcana (excellent product) and the HDMI switch you mentioned in your video. I have a 2015 LG TV with HDMI ARC and the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) with 2 x ERA 300 surrounds. Since installing the Arcana, I can now listen to Dolby Atmos audio from my Blu Ray player. However, I've tried to play some of the Netflix Dolby Atmos content and the best I can achieve is Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 (I do have the Ultra HD plan) as displayed in the Sonos app. I'm puzzled by the fact that I can get Atmos from the BD player but not from Netflix. I don't see Dolby Atmos displayed on the film/s front screen in Netflix, just 5.1. I believe this should be displayed if you have the correct equipment (?). I wondered if you had any thoughts on this? Many Thanks.

Is your Netflix client running on your Bluray player? If so it should detect that it is Atmos capable. But I know Netflix is finicky sometimes. It insists on polling the tv or attached soundbar to see if it supports Atmos. And that requires Edid settings which is complex to set. I can’t remember how to set the edid settings on the fury but you should force a full 7.1 Atmos/truehd track rather than auto. Which may misreport.

I’ll look into it and report back if I have any success. I’m more than happy that. If your PC has a HDMI 2.0 port and above, yes, like RTX3000 series and above. But your Apple TV can't take HDMI input. The port on ATV is just output port.

@@PeterPee Thank you for the response Peter; but Im just a little bit confused because I know people use a setup where they have for exampe a PS5 connected to the TV , and the TV connected the the ATV and the homepods can play audio from the PS5; I want to do the same thing except I use the PC as the PS5, my PC Monitor as the TV, and the ATV as itself. The hopes being that I can then play audio from my PC to the Homepods with hopefully less than 100ms of latency.
