Resistances are the hardest thing for me to juggle. Also gear in general because it's so slot dependant. I'm really looking forward to Poe 2 when slots are on the gems and it's less focused on getting the right slots for gear in addition to stats.

Helping Alira is very good for most players early on: "If siding with Alira she will reward the character with the following bonuses: " 5 Mana Regenerated per second +20% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier +15% to all Elemental Resistances Getting capped was hard some years ago, but not anymore, since the crafting benches release, because even while you rush to Act 10, you can craft resis on items with free "suffix" slots, on poe.trade a prefix is red and a suffix is blue and its also shown if the seller has crafted something on it yet or not.

@@BathBuddha If you play with trade (non ssf) you shoud use the Vendor recipe for 2 Chaos orbs (a hole set of unidentified items above itemlvl 60) with those chaos orbs you can buy your items for 1-4 chaos each to get something with life + resis. Example: Boots with Life 70 /Movementspeed/60 Resis - If you want to socket 2 or more Blue gems you should put 1 point in defense shield like above: poe.trade/search/atononzusioran

I am a vet, been playing since beta, I try to watch these as they come out because I am always looking to improve. I like these videos but my only complaint is that I find them to be a bit to rambly. If I were to request a trying it would be more focus and analytical kind of like a Jim can't swim style of presentation and information dump. I like the idea, the execution is almost there. It is improving.

Just from one Professor to another: If you explain something like the differnce between more/increased and less/reduced always do it with a example. Don't go there like "Just imagine you have a 10 damage Fireball. More will always be better than increased". Fireball with base of 100: INCREASED: gear+passive+gem = 300% increased, so 100*(1+3.0) = 400 damage. MORE: (gear+passive)*gem = 200% increased and 100% more, so 100*(1+2.0)*(1+1.0) = 600 dmg Something like that + the explanation reaches multiple kinds or learning types :)

Just from one Professor to another: If you explain a very complex game to an audience of newplayers you would overwhelm them, if you would bring up damage calculations that early on. Ziz is right if he says, if an item has 10 inc. damage is < than 10 more dmg, not nec. to know more at that point.

yes, auto detonating smoke mine is fine, but as a new player, I was much happier at level 2 of throwing the mine or many mines and hitting d once I realised how mines worked. I would not suggest doing what you just showed for explosive mines if a new player wants to use it as his main attack, It also does not seem like what a new player needs to learn in episode 2 (personal opinion of course). Someone showed me the same kind of action for steelskin and I liked it for that. I then tried to do that for keeping Call of Steel up so I would auto-cast when I moved but you never move, this bad plan :)

So hey thanks for doing these videos and yes I know I'm behind by 3 or 4 months :) No worries. I'm a returning noob, and I think in my previous playing my highest level was like 44 and I don't think I ever got to act 6. So yeah I have had a few bad boss fights, I have no real idea of what to expect and just trying to play my partially completed build. Which is all fine, but I was doing a craft in my base and I went to do resists and I was like at all of them over about 88 and I was seeing the game cap them at 75 then I watched someones build guide who mentioned the -30% and I did not notice much change in my playing until I was in Act 8 in the sewer and it hurt just to walk around after killing everything. I got a couple resists added and my lowest defence now is 73 so I feel better I'll fix it again maybe after the next fight that causes me pain :) But by then I should have more skills for better resists and I imagine even this equipment will be getting old since I don't think I can level up my chest unlike how you can improve a weapon. So just to say it again thanks I hope I can get through all these lessons and try putting it into play and then listen to round 2 :) and see if I learn new stuff that I can try again. I know when I'm following a build guide I often have no clue on what to take when I finish quests because none of the skills I think I need is in the lists :)

You cant take reflected damage, if its delt by minions, mines, traps, totems, ballistas or any non-hit, liek damage over time.

What if I use I skill where my weapon is use in the animation for example a totem using my weapon in the animation. Do the modifiers apply then?

I haven't paid much attention to the numbers, but does "more damage" calculate before or after "increase damage". So does more mean more base damage that increase scales up or does more multiply the damage after the increases to the base damage?

For clarification (although its probably just more confusing), armour is still a lot less clear than the video makes it out to be. Armour will rarely actually mitigate 1 phys damage per 10 armour as said at 6:30. From wiki: DR(A, D_raw) = A / (A + 10*D_raw) So given like with the granite flask (assuming no other armour) A = 3000 D_raw = 1000 DR = 3000 / (3000 + 10 * 1000) = 0.23 meaning the damage reduction is actually only 230 rather than 300. But for a larger hit A = 3000 D_raw = 1000 0 DR = 3000 / (3000 + 10 * 10000) = 0.029 so now it reduces 290 damage, which is closer to the 300 but not quite there yet. Just wanted to add some info on armour :)

Actually to add to this, the 1 phys damage reduction per 10 armour is purely 'theoretical'. Also from wiki: D_raw(A,DR) = A / (10*DR) - A / 10 For 10 armour to reduce phys damage taken by exactly 1, DR would have to be infinitely large as that would the first term equal to 0. The resulting formula would then reduce to A / 10. But honestly, it doesn't matter. If you get armour, the more the better :P And if you don't that's fine too, just get some other defences.

Hey zizarin, I plan on making an arpg at some point when I get better at coding, but in your opinion, how many gear slots is too many? I'm always confused why there are only 2 ring slots, we have 10 fingers, but what do you say?

Problem with making a ton of extra ring slots is that you either need to make rings weak individually, otherwise the rings will be equal in strength to the rest of all your gear. Or you need to slowly unlock ring slots as you progress in the game. I think 4 is the upper limit before it gets annoying to keep track of all your rings. But again if you're going to give 4 slots, why not double their strength and only give 2 slots.

I see, I think I like the unlocking mechanic more than making ring individual weak, treat rings themselves as a form of progression somewhat separated from the rest of the gear slots, maybe make it like that for all jewelry.

The game is getting more and more complex by time and you get a shit load of items to scan if its worth anything for you or others. If you had more ring slots and a pant slot, the interface would be too large and the rebalance of all of it is more out of control.

Just a comment on NO PANTS, I have been playing a witch again, and its true many items I put on let the witch rag skirt show but that is not always the case, some body armour does have artwork that gives my witch a different view then her ugly skirt so it is true you can't equip pants but many armour pieces include visual lower garments. Well, that is at least true in 3.14.
