Great video. I am learning about electric violin because I think it's such an underutilised instrument in prog and metal music, but it reminds me of the synth as I'm a keyboardist in prog metal. It reminds me of having a creative fretless instrument that can hang with the guitars but also provide unique textures and effects that only a fretless instrument can provide. It's a shame you see people disrespect the electric violin and not exploring all these possibilities still left at the table and for me personally, I want to explore that and find an interesting space to capture creativity.

I like Twoset as well. In fact, it was the combination of their acoustic violin vs electric violin video and all the electric violin shop videos that led me to get an electric violin for the first time! (NS design wav5). Of course, that led me to go down the rabbit hole of equipment bloat (Yamaha thr5a amp, zoom a1x, irig hd2, amplitube, blueboard, incredibow, etc)! Loving it (and loving everything Matt Bell puts out!)

It depends on a lot of things but I mic an Orange Bass Combo amp, with the gain up, and run it through a Boss multi effects pedal with a tad of reverb and delay. I am also thinking about getting a microphone type of pickup for one of my acoustic violins for a more natural sound for certain types of songs.

12:30 I agree some classical players I know remove all but the E or all the fine tuners to reduce the weight and amplify the vibrations and I have always thought the same it is so small of a difference I prefer the utility of the fine tuners for such a small trade off - the same I would say with anything else like a shoulder rest or pickup - balance of utility over maximizing the vibration of the instrument

I just found this channel. Great improvised discussion ❤😃! 15:30 About TwoSet and electric violins: yep, I saw the same video(s) and had about the same reaction as you two. IMO, a solid body electric violin is definitely HARDER to play in terms of getting a good tone and projection, and you don't get natural resonances at G, D etc that help you keep your intonation spot on. I think you can hear your "raw" playing better, meaning you can learn a lot, and then you can take your new abilities back to your acoustic if you want to. In short, the solid body electric is generally not easier to play than an acoustic, and overall it's best to have both. IMO 😃.

18:07 I agree with the piano vs organ = acoustic vs electric violin analogy. (I play all four). I also agree that 40 hours/day stoic approach is not the way to go. Look after your body AND make great music! 💯

I know Christian has a sv250. But he doesn't have the external box thing. I have a new one of these upstairs and am considering selling rather than using quite simply because I can pick up my yev , play for a couple of minutes in the day, and I don't have to strap any boxes to myself. I'd happily pay something reasonable for a mod that gets me wireless, preferably with a dongle ( I have a g10 and a g50 that I don't use) without silly boxes. Come on EVS give us a modestly priced mod so we can have what Lindsey and Christian have. Please!

Let’s not forget about the attitude of entitlement that informs the very idea that classical music automatically deserves respect. 🤯 If we as musicians worked from the ground up to gain the respect of our audience we would see that performance is an art and it shouldn’t be taken for granted that the music you play gives you some sort of automatic “in” by itself. Be interesting, be engaging, be open and work hard no matter what the genre.

Any advice on this? I play an acoustic violin with a Fishman pickup. The location of my jack input mounted on the fiddle is in the way of my shoulder rest feet and there isn't really another location other than to mount unto the bracket and my shoulder rest will tend to pop off frequently. It's such a frustrating situation especially after trying to relocate my mounting brackets or even trying other shoulder rests.

As a lefty, I have found the classical purists to often be exclusive over inclusive. I have been laughed at for wanting a lefty fiddle and even told there is no such thing as a lefty fiddle. Luckily, I have found a decent lefty fiddle but lefty solid electric fiddles are as rare as hens teeth. I note in the vid not a lefty in sight in a whole wall full. I believe it is a mass issue, like lefty guitars, if they make them, people will come and buy. I think if the rightist attitude in strings was diluted, more leftys would have access to strings. Music should be inclusive and encourage everyone in every way they can. Manufacturers, get making lefty fiddles, yes it will be a slow burn, but in time there will be a market and if you get in there first, you could change the world for a marginalised minority and help stop the forcing of changing hands. ;)) Play on!

Hmm... Clause, that what to choose, Only depend, what purpose to want use must not be only reason to choose classical over electric.. (my opinion).. You know, tone has color, higher harmonics.. Also seems to, that for people these vibrations (frequencies) has curing effect on human body.. If you let "run" this sound, these vibrations via electronics (semiconductors, integrated circuit), they works DISCREETLY, so called analog signal is cutted to very small pieces, and then collected/integrated.. Because these pieces are so small, hardly to hear difference, But, anyway, some part is missing.. Healthy effect of personally listening natural sound/vibration disappear... It is like drink destilled water, instead of water from spring... It is drinkable, but taste not good.. Missing minerals, cations, etc. What give water taste.. Even listening digitalized music remove this curing effect.. So play yourself natural instruments.. Wooden flute, brass, violin, ukulele, or listen how somebody is playing in front of you.. No amplifying, or electronics.. I use silent brass to practice at night, but this usage should be a friction of time... Think about it, read about effect of music on brain, effect of vibration on human body, etc.. Live long and prosper. 😉 .

Ive gave up on classical people and the industry myself, their outlook on everything is basically corrupted by money . School districts in the US are usually only set for Orchestra if they are well off or rich ( I was from a poorer school district) lower Middle class or poor kids can just go pound sand ! Ive played electric bass fretted and fretless for 40 years and always wanted to play cello but by their own standards and BS a intermediate cello costs more the my RIC 4003 ,Sandberg, Spector and Fender basses . All of those are. professional instruments.

'Twoset' would fail at any improv and actually fail miserably at European classical music for the majority of its history, where the European performers were expected to improvise and not just learn pieces robotically due to having zero creativity.
