Thanks for the trial videos! Really appreciate the effort.

To stop the temperature dropping at night you need some thermal mass inside the tunnel. So water, rocks bricks or anything that will warm up in the day and then cool slowly at night. I have a Tilapia dam inside my greenhouse and it works well to keep the temperature up overnight.

Thermal mass is a great way to store and slowly release heat. We need to maximize space, so it’s a trade-off.

Hi Sean, thank you for this video. Would you consider making a video that goes into more detail about heating pads and grow lights? Such as how long the seeds needs heat. 24 hours a day? And for how long after germination takes place? Is it a good idea to put a fan on the seedlings for airflow and to make the stems stronger? Is it better to use a wicking method for watering the seedlings rather than spraying water on the leaves? How to setup growlights correctly and timing them?

Really great suggestions, we will definitely look at that.

Please help with watermelon seed germination! This is my 3rd year trying and I want to get it right this time! I’m in hillcrest KZN so it’s warmer here I think and no frost.

Hi Sean, I was watching your potatoes trails with you r different planting methods. What I did not pick at the time, was what kind of of potatoes was used. was it Determinate Potatoes or Indeterminate potatoes. I try the follow all the information that you supply us with. Really appreciate what you share with us.
@abdulazeezmanga5 ай бұрын
Kindly watch the potato growing workshop. Basically determinate and indeterminate doesn't exist in potatoes according to livingseeds.

You do not get indeterminate potatoes.

Great video. Does this mean that the seeds that haven't germinated will still germinate, or are they considered failed? Thank you for your content, very helpful and informative
@LivingseedsFarm2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. On the Unheated tray they will slowly germinate until they are all up. You will get an uneven germination. However on the heated tray the germination will be quick and even, there may be a few sporadic late germinators, but in general all should be up quite evenly.

Thank you Sean for this informative video. Now I know what ratio to mix the Hydrogen Peroxide for the germination of seeds. Have you ever tried germinating Moringa seeds? It's been a hit and a miss with me. I have managed to get two to germinate, but the one died. The Moringa is also called the Miracle tree. I put the leaves in the salad. I would like to grow a lot, as it's a very useful tree to have. Have you heard of a tree called Leucaena? Animals love to eat it, it's a nitrogen fixing tree. It grows very quickly and is wonderful to use as chop and drop. Bio mass I believe it's called. Geoff Lawson an Australian guy, is using it to help change the desert conditions in Jordan. Diversity instead of mono crops. Changing the Olive groves into food forests. He is using Mulberry, Pomegranate, and Leucaena in between the Olive trees. It's amazing what is growing there. I have a lot to catch up in watching all the video's you have uploaded. As I am still new to your channel. Love learning new things on gardening. 🌿💚🌿 to

Yup we germinate Moringa on a regular basis, no real issues as the germinate very easily on a heat mat. As for the Leucaena is a NEMBA Cat 2 invasive so not something we would like to recommend at all.

@LivingseedsFarm Thank You Sean, well it looks like I need to buy a heat Mat. I also need to go onto your webpage to see what seeds you have available. Thank You for your quick response. I am so excited, first time I have been able to harvest earthworm castings. I didn't know how to go a out it. A guy in Namibia very kindly told me how to go about it. So I fed one half of the bath in the garage with cow dug also first time, to see how the earthworms would respond. The came in their hundreds from the other side of the bath. Added kitchen scraps in layers. I was able to buy some sheep 🐑 manure from a new farmer. We have become friends. She has sheep, cattle, and horses on her place. I also got some raw honey from father's bee hives. I absolutely love the genuine raw honey. Getting side tracked there LOL I was able to harvest 4 twenty litres of black gold. I even shared a bucket with our daughter. The plants absolutely love the earthworm castings. I really interested in doing the further processing of a bubbling like you do. One step at a time. Still need to buy goodies to do that process. I also want to make Bio-char, just like in your video . But I need to have that super duper Bio-char maker you had displayed on the table. I would loved to have the instructions as to how to make it. My husband is very good with his hands. He has lots of skills he had developed through his life. I am so fortunate, he had made many useful items for me throughout our marriage. I help us in my own way, cutting his hair and moustache. I also scribe Calligraphy thank you notes. Thank You Sean for all you do and share on your videos for us. 🌿💚🌿

Thank you for this video. Could you please do a video on hardening off seedlings? I have phenomenal germination rates, I use your seeds, mix and a combination of trays and your seed block maker. I germinate in my braai room (well, that's what my family calls it, it's basically my nursery room) which is north facing with loads of windows, so it's got great heat... But once I transfer to soil, many don't make it 😢 Or don't grow very strong... So how do I harden off my seedlings for a better survival rate please?

Good day. Please tell me which vegetables must not be germinated on a heating pad.
@LivingseedsFarm2 жыл бұрын
Nice question. Any winter crop, root crops and lettuce are the main ones. Rather concentrate on what really needs bottom heat. Cucurbits, Capsicums, Tomatoes etc will have the greatest benefit.

Thanks for the information, Sean. Quick question: does LS sell heating pads larger than the ones offered on the website? I have purchased mine a few years ago and I use it routinely with great success but I am only able to germinate 3 trays at a time. I have heard that using an old electric blanket on low heat does the trick but I am looking the one similar to the one on the website, but just scaled up, thanks.
@LivingseedsFarm2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Nope unfortunately not. The heating pad has a specific length heating cable inside. If it’s made longer the wattage increases and pushes the heat higher. Rather look at a few pads to maximize your germination requirements. The side benefit is that you can plug in / out pads as you go, not needing to waste power.

As long as it’s not too cold use the germination times on the individual packets. With bottom heat you can halve the times.
