@dchambers986 that's just patently false. It's being done other ways presently, it's been done other ways before. And the current US system isn't the "free market" anyway: insurance is negotiated as groups (unions, corporations), plans, treatments, and hospitals are subsidized, and the price structure of different surgeries, drugs, and hospitalizations is publicly stated one way and collected in a different opaque way. We need more transparency in medical billing and we're not getting that. As an aggregate, we spend much more per capita on medicine than many other countries because of the opacity of our system.

1700 a month? Thought I was doing all right being self employed until you dropped that number. I’d have to make at least twice what I do to afford that and still be able to have a life that consisted of doing more than working to pay my insurance.

She was talking about it as an option for the short term and she did say it is an expensive option. Let’s say you are currently dealing with a specialized medical issue that needs to be tended to, you may want to keep the current plan your on for the short term.

438$ 🤔 I pay 821₹ (11$) a month for a 10 million ₹ ( $1,33,000)comprehensive health insurance policy. With this money I can have a brain surgery, a heart transplant and can be Treated for cancer in the best hospital in my country i.e. India. And before someone say, it's India, top indian hospitals are as good as any European/american hospitals. I guess American healthcare system as they say is truly broken.

Not having insurance (or it being materially more expensive) is just one of the drawbacks of not working for a boss and a company. Nothing wrong either way but saying the knife cuts both ways - good with the bad.

Started my LLC a few weeks ago and just signed up for private insurance for 2024. It’s not HSA-eligible because it’s a PPO, but the deductible is $7,500. This whole HSA concept was started to help with high deductibles, so I don’t see why it matters whether it’s a PPO/HDHP/HMO/whatever. My deductible is HIGH, I should be allowed to contribute to an HSA.

Why can’t you use your husbands if you are self employed? This is just one more reason how tying health insurance to jobs is how society controls people and make them fear being entrepreneurs and create upstart competition. I want to start a business LLc sole proprietorship but my husband and I currently have amazing insurance and I have health issues and I don’t want to lose his coverage but it appears that I may have to because they don’t let you keep your spouses coverage if you make an income on your own. It’s all such a scam.

You can also go with someone like myself a Health insurance agent that specializes in individuals/families/self employed/ small business owners. If you're relatively healthy and can be approved for these plans they offer low to no deductibles, nationwide PPO coverage that are tax deductible. Cheaper better and less of a headache in general.

Agreed, but that is what the options are someone chooses the independent contractor, etc route. Nothing wrong but it is part of the deal.
