You cant buy IHG diamond status! You only get platinum status with the INTERCONTINENTAL AMBASSADOR program.

Correct, but it's still a great deal to get a taste of status with IHG, as IHG status is only really beneficial with Intercontinental or Kimpton, especially when they garuntee upgrades with the program or they will pay you property/drink credits if they can't which is pretty cool.
